No, really, this is just bizarre. Words fail:

In case you’re wondering what’s going on, here’s a brief description from the BBC:

Staff at a Japanese zoo have been practising procedures designed to recapture escaped animals in the event of an earthquake.

An employee of Tama Zoo outside Tokyo donned a zebra costume during the drill as emergency workers set up a barricade.

Personally, we can’t decide which is funnier: The zoo video or BBC’s Carrie Gracie’s attempts to describe it without laughing.

This is why people like the Japanese and don’t like the British. Some idiot bureaucrat makes a decree of ‘earthquake practice’ and the Japanese have fun with it. The Brits contribute nothing but derision and sneers. The rot of the empire is showing.

Japs… Good job, great video… carry on. Oh, who made the suit? I may need a liberal version for when the democrat run cities crash… again.

I think the funniest part is the British women commentating on what appears to be a Japanese ‘drill’ and not understanding that most Asian cultures affected by such catastrophic things like earthquakes, volcanoes, tidal waves, and the odd atomic weapon, might just try to lighten up these drills so they aren’t perfectly real.

In many ways, this is a perfectly acceptable drill and does the job intended. It is fun to watch but the serious element is still there. I just want to be in on the prep and debriefing meeting and the comments made there! Probably very funny stuff. “Hey, nice fall down dude… that tranq down just rocked!” “Yeah, but YOU don’t have to clean the Zebra suit! Yamanoto-san sweated in that thing all day!”

It is funny. But, they do have to practice in some way and real animals don’t always cooperate. Our community had some mockup disaster drills and they were pretty funny, too. Especially the school bus driver with his brains hanging out from a simulated crash. It was really funny seeing him walk into the Command Center after the drill was over still in full makeup.

  part two of the video shows the cleaning crew shovelling up MONICNE’s “teenagers” (that’s what the troll calls it’s droppings….I haven’t asked why) and putting them in bags marked “manure”. Waste not, want not…natch.
