Who Is Newsweek’s ‘Most Powerful Woman in American History’?

If you thought Newsweek’s transition from print to all digital meant that they would stop producing provocative covers, you thought wrong.

And now, as of this week, Hillary Rodham Clinton becomes something she has not been in two decades: a private citizen. A mind-boggling thought, really, rich in amusingly prosaic implications. Will she drive a car? Is she going to pop up at the Safeway (you’re supposed to bring your own bags now, Madame Secretary!) or be found standing in line at the Friendship Heights multiplex? She’ll still have Secret Service protection, and she has more than enough money to send other people out on a CVS run. But even so, she is now, for the first time in a very, very long time, just one of us.

The images amuse because, of course, she’s not just one of us. She’s been the most famous and admired woman in America for 20 years. A December Gallup poll had her as the most admired woman in the world, and No. 2 on the list (Michelle Obama) wasn’t remotely close. Not everyone is in on this love-fest, as we well know, by a long shot. But even the seething hatred has, over the years, embroidered her legend — debates about Clinton have somehow always ended up really being about us as a nation, who we are and who we want to be, in such a way that even those who dislike her are implicitly acknowledging that, yes, she is the touchstone.

Fun fact (via BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kaczynski): Hilary’s departure from the State Department marks the first time in nearly 30 years that a Clinton has not held public office.

I feel sorry for the Morons who wright for these Communist Rags. The most powerful Woman in American History was Betsy Ross. She hand sewed the first American Flag .The Banner that many millions of Men and Women have given their lives to defend. The Banner I will defend to the death if the time comes. The Banner we pledge our lives and Liberty to make sure she still fly’s high over the Fruited Plains . This Clinton Woman is a Criminal who lies , cheats and steals her way to fame. A person who’s heart is void of truth and conscience. Most powerful. Not hardly.

She truly is the most powerful woman in US History. Because of this fact, she’s also the best candidate for a deoderant commercial, to show us how that kind of power can be nulified. Also, if we want her to merely vanish, just slip in a pair of odor eaters into her shoes. Poof.

I’ll take one good housewife, mother, or stay at home mom over a thousand Hillaries.

I wonder if Madam Sec ever:

-sewed a button
-quilted a blanket
-cleaned a sewer leak
-shoveled snow
-made a greeting card
-mended a hole in a jacket
-built a fence
-mixed concrete
-ran a household 24/7
-kneaded bread
-baked a pie
-volunteered without being asked or noticed
-ran a vacuum sweeper
-fed birds
-split/ stacked/ carried wood for a fire
-built the fire for heat
-washed dishes
-packed a moving van with furniture
-shoveled snow
-planted a garden, pulled weeds
-made a cake
-painted a house
-shopped at thrift stores
-operated a lawnmower and sweated
-repaired the vacuum sweeper
-washed the floors on hands and knees
-stood in line at the post office
-killed a chicken
-cleaned the chicken
-cooked the chicken
-was a scout mother
-cleaned a neighbors house
-laid tile
-pumped gas
-changed oil in a car
-wore tennis shoes with holes
-wore tennis shoes
-hand made a scarf
-gave the scarf to a friend

and a thousand other things women have done, and continue to do; the idea of her ‘power’ is only sold to they who do not know nor understand what a quality woman is. To the ladies out there, I apologize for leaving things out you do that are big time important, even if some think irrelevant.

  I obviously took it to the extreme- I know of no woman who does ALL those things, just drawing an analogy that Ms CLinton is over rated, and that the average woman is underrated- but yes, as far as Clinton goes, I’d be safe to say she knows very little of what most women do, or think is important.
  
  And u have to admit, Clinton is worshipped by the media, so the ‘power’ thing is just way out of line

Does anyone here know Hilary Clinton’s achievements…or are facts still not allowed on the blaze? Oh wait…Sarah Palin is popular here…she played basketball in Wasilla High School. At least let the next insult be an informed one…her successes pre-date Bill Clinton. Most Americans respect her very much. The people on this site are a very small minority in the way they think.

  Eleanor Roosevelt was best known for standing up for civil rights and women’s rights. She was very important. She helped write The Universal Declaration of Human Rights which says a whole host of things that all of you rail against (pro healthcare for all, pro unions, etc.)
