On Thursday, we brought you the story of singing star Beyonce admitting she did lip-sync at the inauguration. That was important. But the press event that produced that admission included so much more, including a pseudo-impromptu rendition of an actual live National Anthem in an attempt to placate the press.

But Ashley Simpson was so badly panned for lip synching on SNL a few years back her career was done… how is this bigger event, larger venue, more important performance given a pass when Beyonce uses the same crutch?
If performers are just going to mime it while dancing around i don’t need to go to their concerts… and she wasn’t dancing around which some performers argue leaves them too out of breath to sing well, so that excuse doesn’t fit. i’m expecting the ‘i wanted it to be the best it could possibly be’ argument, which should have just been, then, a recording played while she stood and waved to the crowd, right?
We expect people to make mistakes… we’re a forgiving culture… taking advantage of our good nature though, tricking us? Not a classy move, and her proving she can sing it to the drone pool doesn’t make it all better.
But let’s face it, it wasn’t a party i was attending, anyway… this wasn’t my inauguration, so the presence of theater and lies seems appropriate to the honoree, no?

Feb. 1, 2013 at 9:09amDoesn’t matter much to me either but i do find lip-synching to be disingenuous and dishonest. Singing in a studio is easy for anyone with minimal talent, especially if you have a good producer.
Doing it live, with weather and production variables taken into account, is the only way to prove that you have exceptional talent.
By lip-synching, Beyonce has only provided proof of marginally above-average talent.
To sing at a POTUS inauguration, you really should have exceptional talent.
