Armed 70-Year-Old Women’s Basketball Coach Shoots Attackers While Walking Two Players to Their Cars

A 70-year-old women’s high school basketball coach shot and killed one would-be mugger and injured another while walking two players to their cars Friday night in Detroit, WXYZ-TV reported.

Police said the coach, who has not been named, was approached by two teens who tried to rob him in the parking lot of Martin Luther King High School as he walked with two girls around 7:30 p.m, WDIV-TV reported. One of the attackers died and the other was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Sources told WXYZ the coach was also a reserve police office with a license to carry a concealed pistol. One of the teens was also armed with a gun.

According to WDIV, both teens were students at the high school, though the one who died had recently been expelled.

I like hearing this kind of story. There is just one question I have. Did the fact that the coach was a reserve police officer give him the right to carry a concealed weapon? Does an ordinary law-abiding citizen have the same right? I don’t mean to take anything away from the coach. I think it’s great that he protected himself and the students, but if this is just another case of a special class of citizen being allowed to carry while the rest are left unprotected then that’s a different matter.

Now see, if the coach had an AR-15 on a sling walking those kids to their cars – those thugs would have never attempted such a stupid idea of mugging them. It would have been plain as day that the coach was fully embracing his 2nd Amendment rights of being able to defend himself – and those in his charge.

The solution remains – the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun, is a GOOD guy with a gun. Not ‘gun-control’ it only leaves the bad guys with the guns… and lots more dead good guys.

They called it a tragedy in the news report. Sorry, but for me, anytime criminal thugs get their asses blown away, I find it heartwarming. Imagine if everyone carried a gun. Crime rates would drop to single digits and murder by gun rates would drop dramatically. Hey, has anyone else noticed that anything with MLK’s name attached to it is always a high crime area. If you see MLK Blvd. then it’s a good idea to stay as far away as possible. Nothing good ever happens on MLK streets or in MLK bldgs. Now I’m sure the lefty will call me a racists for pointing out the obvious. I don’t give a sh**. You’re the racist. Moron.

Bet you won’t find this article on the Huffington Post. If you did, it would be saying the coach was racially profiling the thugs as they held a gun to his head and tried to rob him. The two punks got EXACTLY what they deserved. WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS BULL****!!

Do you think the kid with the gun would have went through a background check? When a thug wants to rob or steal, they will use a gun, knife, ball bat anything they can. This is a classic case of if you mess with a bull you are liable to get the horns. Good for the coach. Don’t worry Al Shartpon will be by soon doing the racial version of ambulance chasing. One less deadbeat to worry about.

well if coach did not have a gun, all he would have to do is give the punks what ever they wanted, including the 2 girl players he was escorting, then the punks would have said thank you sir and left with no problem, All I can say is good thing he did not have kitchen scissors cause dose punks would really been in trouble.

A shame he had to be a “reserve police officer” to get the CCW at 70 makes you wonder how desperate Detroit is for Law Officers too. Our senior citizens are the most vulnerable to these low lifes and kudos to the 70 year old man.

AMAZING!! ….Living South of Detroit, there is NOTHING in either paper about this and only one small blurb on local TV (WXYZ).

Nothing on FOX or (of course) the liberal/progressive/communist controlled media outlets since this speaks volumes against the pro gun ban crowd claims.

Ok, lets take two and two and put them together. We are in detroit, they were near MLK school, so, strong odds are they were black. Serves them right for picking on a 70-yr old. Maybe next time, the bruthers will finish school so they have a few more smarts.

I wonder if the attacker had a concealed handgun license…oh, wait…he’s not even old enough to legally own a handgun, let alone get a license for it.

Criminals don’t give a rat’s ass about laws. More gun laws will do nothing but hurt law-abiding gun owners like me. I wonder how many rounds the coach fired. I wonder if he’d have survived if the anti-gun nuts’ ridiculous magazine capacity laws had been in place.

I’m glad nobody was hurt/killed except for the perps. They got what they deserved.

The Supreme Court of the United States already ruled that the police have no Constitutional responsibility to protect individuals. It’s YOUR job to protect yourself. It’s YOUR job to protect your family. It’s YOUR job to protect those in your community (such as these basketball players). The coach understood that. Because he understood it, he came out on top (so did the players he was protecting). Good for him.
