Bill Maher Goes After Glenn Beck and His ‘Gullible Honey Boo Boo,’ ‘Rube’ Audience

Bill Maher Goes After Glenn Beck and His Gullible Honey Boo Boo, Rube Audience

HBO

Bill Maher on Friday took aim at Glenn Beck as a “con man” preaching a “patented brand of apocalyptic race-baiting” to a subscription-based audience — from Maher’s own perch on subscription-based network HBO.

It started when Maher said liberals need to stop “gloating” about Sarah Palin’s recent departure from Fox News — even though it was a “wonderful, hilarious coincidence” that it just came after Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal implored fellow Republicans to “stop being the stupid party.”

“It makes me think of this guy,” Maher said, flashing a photo of Beck. “Did he curl up into a ball and weep like a baby? Of course he did. This is Glenn Beck we’re talking about.”

Maher continued that Beck then “saw an open window, the Internet. Who needs Fox News when he can take his patented brand of apocalyptic race-baiting directly to the fans, who now pay $9.95 to hear Glenn. Cheaper than a case of their favorite wine.”

Maher evidently missed that access to TheBlaze.com is free of charge, as is Beck’s radio show, which pulls in an average of 10 million listeners a week. Subscription-based TheBlaze TV is also available in millions of homes on DISH Network.

“That $9.95 really adds up,” Maher continued. “Last year, Glenn Beck made $80 million, placing him 11th on the Forbes list of the highest-paid celebrities, Elton John, who sang at the wedding of someone else on the list, Rush Limbaugh.”

Beck did indeed make $80 million — a combination of radio, book, and touring profits, not solely BlazeTV subscriptions. Maher then opined about how Beck and Limbaugh are a big part of what’s wrong with the Republican Party.

“Con men like Rush and Beck are one reason the Republicans are in such dire straits today,” he said. “They don’t care about winning elections, they care about separating rubes from their money. They’ve discovered there’s a fortune to be made by keeping a small portion of America under the illusion that they are always under attack from Mexicans or ACORN or Planned Parenthood or gays or takers, global warming hoaxers, it doesn’t matter.”

Knocking TheBlaze TV’s “only” 300,000 subscribers — but not mentioning TheBlaze.com’s 10 million unique visitors last month or its 90 million page views according to Google Analytics — Maher continued that Beck and Limbaugh “don’t want a majority.”

“They don’t want a majority, they want a mailing list — a list of gullible Honey Boo Boos out there who think there’s a war on Christmas or that these socialist policies of our Kenyan president have been so disastrous that the end of the world is coming,” Maher said.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

This is the same guy that said he wants more death in any form, and illegally broke into the Creation Museum’s office once.

He literally should be in jail, or at least have been fired as an admitted Nazi/eugenicist type. For him to then say anything negative about “apocalyptic” views, even if that’s a straw man, has no credibility whatsoever.

Or FAKE-conservative/libertarian Beck “going after” CONSTITUTIONALIST Alex Jones and his gullible “minion” rube supporters.

Or FAKE-conservative/libertarian Beck “going after” CONSTITUTIONALIST Debra Medina and her gullible “truther” rube supporters.

Maher must have forgotten al gores lies and half billion dollars he made from lying to gullible progressive sheep.. Or how the clinton,s are millionaires from speaking , but Glenn and palin should be shunned…. Or how democrats say there is a war on women and then have sex with underage girls in the dr… Or how Harry Reid became a millionaire as only a senator….

Those are all ok, but Glenn producing a product that people buy and the consumers are happy with the final product, that makes maher upset…. I guess bill believes in forcing people to watch his lies

there is some truth to what Maher said….

Beck has established himself in a place that he likes, so he is no longer fighting for us. Thats why he laid down in the primary, used false hope in nov, trashed alex jones using sal alinsky, talked about his big city, told everyone not to march on state capitols, and to give up your guns and hire “great lawyers”

Because of where Beck is, he now hopes for the status quo instead of pushing forward with ideas and solutions. It seems to happen to all the leaders at some point or another.

Anyone that thinks alex jones is a constitutionalist is delusional. It’s the same debate for Ron Paul, while they speak of the constitution they both fancy with left wing radicals. In Pauls case he worked with several george soros operatives in congress, Jones on the other hand is a commi/fascist. He regularly has on communist max keiser and other left wing radicals that ‘he agrees with’ – Jones never denied the claim when Beck called him out.

Jones is also an operative of some kind. He participates in cointelpro daily, ie the austin gun ralley, telling listeners they are p*ssies if they don’t committ violence then once again calling for violence on peers morgan. He is an agent.

Regarding Debra Medina. Could have been a plant? She did waffle on some stuff. And on the backside China, Russia and the Arabs promoted the 911 conspiracy.

if you read China Unrestricted Warfare PDF they speak how they will work with radical muslims and billionaires to take down the west with muslim terrorism and financial attacks. They admitted their MO but some don’t want to believe it.

      TRUTH:
Alex Jones is a Constitutionalist, conservative and Christian. He is ONE LONE TRUTHFUL VOICE among a gaggle of FAKE-conservative REPUBLICANS (Hannity, Limbaugh), FAKE-Constitutionalist REPUBLICANS (Levin) and FAKE-libertarian REPUBLICANS (Beck).

      TRUTH:
Ron Paul and Alex Jones DO NOT RESTRICT their relations to “republicans.” This does not mean they ADVOCATE THE OPINIONS of anyone they associate with. Alex Jones interviews socialists like Ed Asner, BUT CLEARLY DISAGREES with socialism.

      ALINSKYITE LIE:

Maher is right on this one. If anyone has watched Beck’s transformation over the years, it’s pretty obvious that he turned into a conspiracy theorist for money. When he had his show on CNN he was pretty down to earth. When he went to FOX (right about the time Obama was elected) he joined the rightwing fringe. He now makes Rush seem tame, and makes a fortune off of it. Don’t listen to the extremists on either side of the aisle. If Beck was really in it to “save America” and “educate Americans” he wouldn’t be charging $120 a year for a subscription.

I’ve read some very intelligent comments here. I appreciate the thoughtful commentary here. Even so, I think many of you have missed the point of Maher’s commentary.

Maher was using the oldest Alynisky trick it the book. Did you notice? In Rules for Radicals Alynsky’s first principal was “mock the truth.” In other words, when you know something to be true, but that something is doesn’t support your point of view, then ridicule that something as if it were a stupid idea that only drooling, uneducated, gullible right wing people who are easily separated from their money would believe.

Case in point. Maher mocks the idea that Mexicans, Muslims, Europeans, Asians, Russia Democrats, gays, Planned Parenthood, the Caliphate, FEMA, gun control advocates, liberal women and the 47% of this country who are moochers are out to get you and take away your freedoms.

He mocks the idea those aforementioned groups are trying to deprive you of your Constitutional rights, something you know to be true. Pure Alynsky. Mock the truth so that some, the weak willed, may begin to question the truth of their convictions. We all know were that has lead historically: Hitlers Germany.

You can be part of the solution though. For one, you can prepare yourself with the products you’ll find advertised here, seeds and so forth. Of course you can arm yourself. And for a nominal monthly fee you can keep abreast of the threats by signing u

Bill Maher doesn’t like Glenn Beck and it’s all about Mr.Beck’s success.

Bill Maher’s net worth is 23 million Glenn Beck net worth 110 million

Mr Beck makes 80 million a year Bill Maher makes 10 million a year

Bill Maher does one thing HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, and he’s not very good at it, and he’s stagnate in the business sense, he will do a another TV show once a year, or a bit part in a movie every two years, business wise he’s not.

Glenn Beck does Radio, TV, Internet, Books and is very successful at it, and is always moving forward with his business, and always looking forward in the business sense.

Everything Bill Maher has done in TV and Movies are just not memorable.

what are you talking about? According to you, “Maher illegally broke into the Creation Museum’s office once”. You mean, the time Ken Ham himself guided Bill’s film crew through every exhibit of the “museum” as they were still constructing it ? Or the time when Ken Ham sat down with Maher in his office to give him an interview?

I did subscribe to GBTV last year, and was greatly disappointed, as Glen stopped doing the investigative work he had started earlier on Fox, (copied from infowars.com) Nevertheless; Glenn has a wider appeal, and a great way of presenting things. I had great hope for GBTV. But it changed, as Glenn got cold feet, and did not want to end up like Breitbart, and loose out on his new wealth.

It’s funny that Maher continues to put Glenn up as the strawman stereotype that the left have always used against him. It is obvious that they either don’t watch, listen or even care about Glenn’s message. They are simply pawns to continue to destroy the heart and soul of this nation in order to create their Collectivist utopia. They are so far stuck in the past that there is little hope for them to recover.

Bill Mayer has Narcissistic personality disorder

    symptoms may include:

Believing that you’re better than others
Fantasizing about power, success and attractiveness
    Exaggerating your achievements or talents
    Expecting constant praise and admiration
Believing that you’re special and acting accordingly
Failing to recognize other people’s emotions and feelings
Expecting others to go along with your ideas and plans
    Taking advantage of others
Expressing disdain for those you feel are inferior
    Being jealous of others
Believing that others are jealous of you
    Trouble keeping healthy relationships
    Being easily hurt and rejected
    Having a fragile self-esteem
    Appearing as tough-minded or unemotional

When you have narcissistic personality disorder, you may come across as conceited, boastful or pretentious. You often monopolize conversations. You may belittle or look down on people you perceive as inferior. You may have a sense of entitlement. And when you don’t receive the special treatment to which you feel entitled, you may become very impatient or angry.

But underneath all this behavior often lies a fragile self-esteem. You have trouble handling anything that may be perceived as criticism. You may have a sense of secret shame and humiliation. And in order to make yourself feel better, you may react with rage or contempt and efforts to belittle the other person to make yourself appear better.

That you are better than everyone else.
That you will be the key
That everyone else is asleep but you “KNOW” the “Truth”

      and on and on.

It’s a promise of a fascist paradise, where Glenn Beck will lead you to….

He said he waited for a leader and no one stepped up so now he is going to lead.

Marybeth. Nice job mis representing Glenn and his audience, but the problem Is that Glenn is not the leader, his whole message is to get US to look into history for ourselves, make up our minds for ourselves, and them find candidates who agree and support our values….

Right now u have libretard media saying war on women, racists, hate blacks, giving tax money only to millionaires… So obviously NBC and others are lying to push their own 1 sided agenda…

All Glenn is teaching people is to educate yourself, so that we cannot be lied to, by a facist media who wants to only push their agenda…

So glenn has an audience that will b the key… They will not allow peoPle to tell them they hate women because they are against abortificants… Or your racist cause we don’t want to waste money… Your only tring to give millionaires tax revinue if your a conservative, as Obama protects the loopholes of billion dollar corps.

Having a new brand of message that is not lies, that allows u to make up your own minds… Give u the facts and let u decide… That is what you don’t get from NBC CNN abc CBS fox huff po, etc… That is why your statement is retarded… Glenn is the only one not giving people fabricated storied to push an agenda… That is why Glenn is so successful

Glenn Beck did declare himself the leader of a global movement. His mission is to transform the world. He said this before he went on his minion paid vacation to Israel.

You can wax poetically about what you want Glenn Beck to mean. If fact he has said as much. He has said not to listen to what he says but listen to the spirit of his words.

Glenn Beck want you to Pretend he is something he is not.

The comments in these threads are fascinating. I try to ensure I don’t deliberately jump into a conversation, or argument with emotion. It causes a strong bias, and clouds your ability to judge logically. Arguments need to be fought with calm reasoning. That’s how I’ve come to know what I know. So I read these comments and I often just read without any input, but I am now. I don’t judge based solely on my view, I judge based on what I’ve learned from different views, what I’ve observed. In other words, I don’t criticize anyone until I have experienced, at least to a degree, their views. It helps me understand who is truly good, well-intentioned, and who is crazy. There are crazies on each side, all victims of an emotional imbalance and a distaste for anyone unlike them, which deprives them of any kind of logic and reasoning because they become too emotional. People like WestCoast and even Soy. There is merit to what they say, but that doesn’t mean they are right. They can’t let go of the past, and especially guys like WestCoast, he’s it makes him too emotional, and doesn’t allow room for clear thinking. The very people who could claim the left is full of hate and anger are guilty of the same thing. This is dangerous. Anyway, based on what I’ve come to know from the two, Maher is definitely narcissistic, and Merybeth is blowing smoke out of their ass.

The past is our guide. You cannot see where things are going unless you fully realize where we came from. That is why we continue to remind people.

People act like the Tea Party was a giant leap forward…..The Tea Party did nothing. That is how big the establishment is. We dont get over this hurdle until people are able to view our problems (and the world) differently. One person at a time.

Generally, we attack bad ideas but many around here like to attack us personally on a regular basis. So i find it strange you would single someone like me as the one out of line.

Pathological? I’m almost impressed. You should be writing copy for Becks advertisers. As far as Beck is concerned, I didn’t know Glenn was dishonest with the posting of articles on ‘The Blaze.’ How do you judge that, using conspiracy theories? You talk about him selling ‘us’ He makes money by advertising to everyone including you. I don’t see him otherwise, or as you suggest, trying to sell me or anyone else anything (anything as in political BS). If anyone is trying to ‘sell’, or as I think of it foist, crap here it is you and your idiot left wing loony friends. The term pathological belongs to Maher ger bold. His left wing vitriol and nasty comments are legendary, even amongst the left, and it makes pale anything Beck does or says. I don’t remember Beck ever calling you a “c * n t !” This article is just another in a long line of Maher’s low class commentary. If you think you are going to get me and others here, that are unlike you, to see it your way, wereas Maher is concerned and just about everything else, forget it. There is a difference between remembering the past and staying in the past. Was Glenn a fan of Ron Paul? No. I actually wasn’t for a time either. But there is such a thing as change, and I believe Glenn is undergoing this. I believe this because I am too. I’ve gone from a Republican Conservative to a Libertarian Conservative in the past few months. Glenn thought we were in a time of desperation, and in that desperation he did something against true Conservatism. I did this too (although, in the end, I ended up not voting at all), and it was wrong. Can we not believe that maybe Glenn is changing? But people want to think of others as they used to be long ago, because people like to perceive them like that. No one wants to remember a guy who once bullied them, or hurt in school as now a kind, gentle and new person. Because they don’t want to like them, so they keep holding the past in front of reality. This is an unhealthy mentality that only creates hatred and intolerance. So yeah, I think it’s important to hold Glenn to his past, but people do change over time, and if you can’t accept that, you’re just living in the past.

I think the Tea Party could have done a lot, but people got too impatient, and wanted everything to be fixed over night. These are the people who want this civil war already, who are just giving up on a civil and decent fight. This concerns me, that so many Libertarian Conservatives are becoming everything we are supposed to resent.

I will say this, though, Soy, I think you appear much more reasonable than Brother Winston Smith. He appears far too emotional. You at least do not call names. And I have seen many people say things to you that were unnecessary. I don’t condone such things (I just didn’t think it was necessary to jump in just to tell them to behave, it would have distracted from the topic of discussion) so I often just let it be. You handle it well, anyway. I like your way of thinking, it’s not confined to a single party, but I just think you are letting the past dictate the future. Maybe I’m wrong, but right now, it seems this way.

Smith doesn’t attack ideas, he attacks people, calling them ‘Fake’ Conservatives and even goes so far as to call them Progressives, which makes no sense at all. But it’s because he’s essentially given up on the good fight, no longer wants to speak reason. This doesn’t help us. It just creates more division. He does exactly what Maher does– Deliberately goes to where he doesn’t like to accuse and pick on people he doesn’t like. I find it fascinating that a guy with such contempt for this site continues to visit it.

“We’ve educated ourselves into imbecility.” Degrees count for only two things: 1.) Finishing what you started 2.) Believing everything you hear. Neither leads to being truly “educated”.

What point are you making by identifying the education levels of serial killers? Are you trying to draw parallels?

      How about this:
Albert Einstein, PhD from University of Zurich
Madam Curie, PhD from University of Paris

For every correlation you have between education and the negative, I can find 5 that contradict your point.

And to those inquiring, I have a Masters of Science from Carnegie Mellon.

      @ENDTHEMINDLESSSPENDING
The originator of this thread wants him to get an education. I am simply pointing our that he already has one. You’re the first to use the term “smart”.

Try and keep up with the discussion.

      @STONEEZ
Disagree. Education is the groundwork to grow. If you don’t know what’s been done before you will never be able to create what comes next. It allows you to stand on the shoulders of giants.

The only people I find that make arguments against the benefits of education are those that have tried it and failed, or never tried it all. Which one are you?

We are cynical of the academic community because it is currently heavily corrupt. Perhaps one day the term ‘professor’ or ‘expert’ will carry the authority it did in the past, but today, we look far past anyone’s title, such as republican, democrat, doctor etc.

Not that we reject all expert opinions at face value, we simply give their words an extra grain (or gram) of salt.

The great American author Dale Carnagie said it best: “Nobody kicks a dead dog.” Notice that within a week both Jon Stewart and Maher have come out attacking Glenn. The Blaze Network is the only major news/media network that is hiring and expanding globally during this recession. NYT is cutting back, NBC firing President, CNN total cost saving makeover, Newsweek magazing folds etc yet The Blaze has almost twice as many paid subcribers now as CNN has average viewers. Once The Blaze is picked up by Time Warner and others it will easily give Fox News a run for its money at the #1 rated news channel.

Maher and Stewart have been sent out to use “Alinsky” tactics on Glenn because he and the network are growing so rapidly. If I were Glenn I’d take it as a badge of honor. When the Hounds of Hell come for you, you know you’re doing things right. (see link below to sites whose only purpose is to bring down The Blaze)- Puppet Master Soros and his imps are launching their armies to attack.

I was once a liberal & I listened to those guys regularly. Then, as most people do, I acquired wisdom with age & experience and realized how ugly and dishonest the side I was a part of was. Once you taste the truth and are surrounded by people with pure hearts it becomes addictive. You look back on who you used to give your attention to and see how small, evil, and ignorant they were all along.

@VOTEBUSH – I would be happy to stack my educational bonafides up against Maher’s any day…but it simply doesn’t matter. This whole conversation is moronic, and your appeal to credentialism is pointless. There are plenty of highly-intelligent and well-educated folks out there with neither hide nor **** of a college degree, and conversely there are terminal-degreed individuals who are quite stupid. I know…I’ve met them. I’ve taken their classes. I’ve taught them. I’ve debated them.

Not all education is good education, no matter the prestige of the plaque mounted in brick at the entrance of the courtyard. The question at hand should not be one’s level of education, but rather how valuable that education is, and how intelligently one uses the education they have, be it formal or informal. In the case of Maher, he is a midwit who perfectly fits the mold of someone who has an undergraduate English degree from a place like Cornell…he sounds very insightful, but really is a massive Delta Bravo with very little depth of knowledge, and is a horrendously lazy thinker.

      Cheers!

A person (you) that enters a conversation (this one) is not in a position to change the discussion. I don’t care what you believe we “should” be arguing. Whether or not education translates to intelligence is not the topic we’re covering here. Quite frankly I agree with you, I don’t think education and intelligence form a one to one mapping. However, that’s not the argument we’re having. The question is, “Is Maher educated?”

My answer is yes. And I cite his degree from Cornell as indicating his ordinal level of formal education. Regardless of whether you think he’s intelligent, you cannot deny that he IS educated.

      Cheers!

      @VOTEBUSH

I didn’t change the discussion, I simply gave my opinion on what it had evolved into and suggested a perspective that was more in line with the intent of the original comment.

When the original poster made his or her comment, no reasonable reader actually assumed the comment was claiming that Maher never went to school or got a degree, they were clearly talking about his lack of knowledge, familiarity, or myopic perspective on this particular topic…though there is certainly more where that came from. They even used the word “ignorance”.

Either you’re being overly pedantic to the point of absurdity, or you are simply attempting to score cheap rhetorical points in an effort to display your apparent superiority over those poor conservative rubes.

Your final comment goes to my point. Education is never absolute, and it never ends. Some education is pitifully narrow in scope. Some education is education in name only. Some is worthless; some is wasted. No matter how you slice it, when it comes to this particular topic, Maher could do with some serious educating.

Quite the contrary. I pray Mr. Beck is successful with most of his endeavors – I wish energy independence for all; I wish a brand of entertainment that reflect Christian values , regardless of what rung on the Latter those are; I wish Glenn success in further endeavors , if they embrace the God given rights of ” Freedom ; ‘ I wish Mr. Beck to further those ends to cause an avalanche to change the sycophantic attitudinal discrimination of the Godless liberal agenda.

That is one of the saddest parts of the Progressive liberal mind set. They know what is best for everyone yet only listen to “themselves” and never ever follow their own ideas. Any time a progressive is presented with a Blaze article or Beck idea.. they never attack or dispute or counter the idea but attack the person. Truth can’t be faked…. Maher’s problem is he knows he is not God no matter how much he pretends and tries to tell us he is. Beck tells us to read and check for ourselves and trust in God… not him. Mahre won’t tell you his faults or even admit them. Beck leads with them….. And Queen Mary Elizabeth that truth you know…. so you can only call names. Did you hear Glenn Beck whining and feeling sorry for himself this past Monday.

He was saying to stop picking on him because he’s only saying what he thinks and not hurting anyone.
Of course he’s hurting people twisting their perceptions with his mendacity.
Did you hear the edited tape he played of an interview with Mrs Clinton where he had her criticizing the President and saying that she was doing so to position herself to be elected president in 2016. Except it was a lie. Her criticism were against the Egyptian government.
Glenn Beck has such little respect for his audience that he tries to fool you and see how far he can take his joke.
      He doesn’t respect his listeners.

The producers of Maher’s show HAVE to constantly give tickets away to visiting tourists, as no one really wants to see his show anyway. We saw this first hand when our daughter dragged me to a taping of a national show in Los Angeles, and several people were literally forcing “FREE” tickets, along with coupons for free meals, to anyone who would take a ticket to see his show in person. We declined, as did a great many others. His audience has far more in common with the mentality of the Honey-Boo-Boo style shows than any other “entertainment” outlet, save “The View”.
