Chris Matthews: John McCain’s an ‘Angry’ Vietnam Vet Who’s Having ‘Flashbacks’

MSNBC host Chris Matthews on Friday declared Sen. John McCain just an “angry” Vietnam veteran who’s having a “flashback” for his sharp questioning of defense secretary nominee Chuck Hagel.

“Why is John McCain so angry? Forty years after the Vietnam POWs came home, the most famous of them is angrier than ever,” Matthews said to kicked off his show “Hardball.”

The Arizona Republican had a particularly tough exchange with Hagel during his Senate confirmation hearing Thursday over Hagel’s past criticism of the Iraq War surge, including once calling it the “most dangerous foreign policy blunder in this country since Vietnam.” McCain repeatedly demanded Hagel give a direct yes-or-no answer on whether he was correct in that characterization, which Hagel refused to do, saying he would “defer to the judgement of history.”

Matthews said Friday McCain harbored “a resentment not against the North Vietnamese who imprisoned and tortured him all those years, not against George W. Bush and his political henchmen who tried to stain McCain’s reputation back in 2000,” but against Hagel, a man who also fought in America’s “long nightmare in Vietnam.”

“A nightmare whose flashbacks must haunt still the mind and heart of John Sidney McCain,” Matthews said.

The hate comes to the surface quickly with a progressive. John is a weak conservative at best but his mistakes have more character than you. You are the kind of person that beats children in the dark and then blames the neighbor.

McCain was a terrible soldier
and an even worse pilot.
Totally in the pocket of the MIC.
He thinks all and any war is good.
Both Iraq and Viet Nam were costly mistakes.

At least John McCain can say he was a vet.. all Chris has is being a angry old newscaster and a p— poor one at that! I don’t care much for John McCain, but I wouldn’t call him a angry vet, having flashbacks.. the man spent a very long time in a Vietnam prison.. he also served his country.. which is more than I can say for Chris Matthews.. tell us Chris, what did you ever do to protect America and its people.. or any people for that matter? You are a zero sir when it comes to being an American citizen!

Matthews served in the United States Peace Corps in Swaziland from 1968 to 1970 as a trade development adviser. REALLY TOUGH DUTY. I bet he has PTSD or BERI-BERI

  An interesting aside here, about 3 million vet served in Viet Nam. However, in the 2000 census 12 million claimed to have been there.I guess it’s like Woodstock, if you saw the movie , that counts too.

Why is it that the first thing the people on the left like Chris Mathews do when a Republican says or does something they don’t agree with is launch into a tirade of personal attacks? Sites like the Blaze cover this to point out how outrageous these comments are, but that strategy doesn;t work, It just gives them the coverage the seek. I recommend we do what the liberal media does, just ignore people like Mathews like they don’t exist. EWRoss.com
