In an apparent effort to put the kibosh on the burgeoning “skeeter” movement, the White House released a photo Saturday of President Barack Obama shooting clay pigeons.

“President Barack Obama shoots clay targets on the range at Camp David, Md., Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012,” reads the caption on the official White House photo.

Obama’s remark in an interview last week that “we do skeet shooting all the time” was met with open challenges and skepticism even from the Washington Post’s famed fact-checker. TheBlaze’s Jon Seidl coined the phrase “skeeter,” in line with the “truther,” “birther” and other “-er” movements.

  Hey RJ,since you know that weapon, explain to me please why these is “smoke” shooting out the side of the barrel,about 6 inches before the end of the barrel?   All they show is hoom holdig a rifle & discharging it. When you shoot skeet, they clays rise up into the air, so why is he aiming the rifle straight forward? Because he can’t hit a clay! It’s as if he is aiming at the person pulling the clay pigeon, not an actual clay pigeon after it’s been pulled…conclusion: he is not skeet shooting in this photo. Also from the looks of his upper body stance, his knees are straight when they’d be bent when shooting upward….which he is not

  Where is the pic of the president after he got knocked on the ground after the shot was fired? Those shotguns really have a big kick don’t they? Did Michelle have to rub your shoulder after you pulled the trigger on that big, bad, dangerous firearm. I bet you will have a bruise for months after that shooting experience. Well, at least we now know……………at least we have proof………….at least we have seen the evidence……………that our Commander can hold and shoot a shotgun. Bravo. I know our troops must now feel at ease right along with all the citizens of our great nation. The pic is great.   I don’t know the exact model he is using, but it likely has vented barrel. I own a shotgun with one. It’s simply holes drilled in the top of the barrel to release some gas to compensate for recoil and muzzle climb. And for those who say he’s aiming low he may be shooting trap which can be very low to the ground. Not saying he is its a possibility.

  Yeah no kidding! I just blew up that pic and i have never seen a gun shoot the blast out the front of it and the side of it at the same time? Hmmmm 2+2 is not adding up here!!! Lol
  Not to mention has anyone noticed the road and the trees behind him? Seems like if he was at a skeet shotting range he there would be a station set up for him to shoot at? I dont shoot skeet but everytime ive seen someone shooting they have a stand set up for ammo and the other guns maybe?

  Besides not shooting UP at a clay pigeon, there’s another boo-boo in the photo. Note that Barry is sighting down the barrel, along the sights. When you shoot at a moving target like a bird, or a flying clay pigeon, you look OVER the gun, towards what you’re shooting at.

  With the recoil pushing the gun up a little and the angle it’s at in the photo… he was firing straight ahead and shooting skeet usually involves pointing the gun upwards upwards.

  His line of sight is about an inch lower than the top of the barrel, I guess with him being the supreme leader he has super powers and can see through the barrel. To me, this looks like typical White House bullsh*t. He should at least learn how to hold a gun for his phony photo opps.

  It is a ported barrel looking close at the photo. So he was given an avid shooter’s Browning Citori to use from what it appears. It is odd that gasses only exited the right side ports however. You can clearly see ports on the left side. I really don’t care whether a President is an avid shooter or not, but to fall all over himself to look tough, Barry comes across even more wimpy.

  Grimmster: the smoke coming from the side could be the result of porting in the barrel, little holes drilled in the upper quadrant designed to vent gasses up and hold the barrels down so that the shooter can rapidly aquire the next clay. But you’d think it would be coming from both sides. I’ve shot clay targets for 50 years and have never seen smoke like this, and I’ve never seen anyone shooting skeet at that angle. Normally, the clays are above the shooter’s head. He looks as comfortable with this gun as Mother Teresa would look holding a condom.

  Has anyone noticed his face? His cheek is pressed against the stock. There is no way anyone would shoot a shotgun that way (not to mention there’s no sign of recoil and smoke shouldn’t be coming out of the side). His stance and angle are both wrong, too.   The gun is ported on top of the barrel to reduce muzzle rise, making it easier to stay down on a target.
  It doesn’t necessarily reduce recoil, but will reduce the amount of climb. Is this a stagted photo? Probably. I would like to see some video showing more thna one shot. I wonder if he dropped it and ran after that first shot.

  In Regards to the smoke coming out the side of the barrel: It may be a magna-port barrel, a sort of muzzle-break to reduce barrel lift and reduce recoil. used by someone like Oblammy who has a limp wrist and can’t handle the ‘kick’ of a real shotgun. but rich competition pro shooters use it too lol..

  This photo is just like O’s entire presidency, a fraud covered up by the MSM. They aren’t even good with this little photo set up. If he shot straight ahead like that he would hit the skeet machine. After the skeet is launched you follow it up for a second or two before you fire. The big puffs of smoke and no recoil means he is either firing off firecrackers or it is photo shopped. When a lefty aims down the barrel he has to tilt his head to the left to get the left eye in line with the barrel, his head isn’t tilted. He probably has both eyes squinted shut in fear, hidden by the black sun glasses. So much for O’s Dukakis moment.

  Looks like a Browning Citori over/under. The barrel porting is a series of small holes at 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock covering about 6 inches in length on both sides of the barrel near the exit. Photo shows only one jet coming out the right side, wrong. Only one extended choke on the top barrel, not usual. Modern powders are called “smoke less powders”, ie no smoke like in the picture. The gas blast on the top barrel is misaligned to the barrel bore. His eye sight line is under the barrel top line, with skeet you stare over the top of the barrel. No recoil, 12 gauges kick hard, even target loads. Does not look real, elevation of gun is too low.

  I magnified and enhanced the photo myself using state-of-the-art equipment at work and the date on the watch actually is Jan 31, 2012 not 2013. Your equipment is probably a generation behind the latest technology. Good detective work though. I know you did the best you could with outdated skills and equipment.
  
  But that only shows the skill that went into this photoshoped fake photo. Having the equipment I have access to, it’s obvious this photo is as fake as the Obama birth certificate the State of Hawaii issued. The technicians in Hawaii are pretty good at faking birth certificates, but they aren’t perfect as we all know.
  
  This fake photo proves for a fact the President has never shot a gun. Any idiot, any drooling imbecile, any subhuman redneck, any sub zero IQ person with a grudge against people “like” Obama can see this photo is a total fake, like those tabloid photos of Jesus in the clouds above a hurricane.

  Call me naive, and I may be, but I just have one question. I have gone shooting with my husband many times with my husband but I always prefer to shoot my handgun because, as a petite woman, the shotguns and rifles nearly blow my shoulder off. How does he have his cheek literally resting on the gun (enough that its obvious by looking at the pic) while the gun is firing and still have teeth in his head? Again, maybe I’m naive and this is a week gun or something, I’m legitimately asking because that just looks unnatural to me.

  I just spotted something in the photo that tell me it was staged or photo-shopped! As you know I have shot trap, skeet & sporting clays for years. Look at the picture and look at the muzzle on the top barrel you see the gold ring at the end of it?? That’s a Midas choke tube you need that to shoot the gun because without it you could damage the threads inside the barrel that the Midas choke screws into….Okay now look at the bottom barrel…Whats missing??? That’s right the other choke tube is not there!! Skeet is a shooting sport that requires two quick shots at most every station, there called doubles. You need a gun like an over under shotgun, semi-auto and I have seen a few use a pump shotgun but for most its takes too long to cycle the second shell, the target is too fast. The photo shows the president shooting an over under shotgun but there is no choke on the lower barrel!! He would be crazy to try and shoot skeet with this gun, I’m calling B.S. on this one!! It’s a total FAKE!!

  It has been some 55 years since I shot trap and skeet. I remember the first time I shot trap. I held the gun like Obama does. Man, did I have a black-and-blue arm after that … and, sore! His score must be low. This must be the first [and possibly, the only] time he held a shotgun.

  You can say that again. 1. He doesn’t have line of sight. Notice his head is forward an down slightly, her is seeing more ground than a sight picture. 2. The puff of smoke back from the muzzle. Some suggested a ported barrel, to reduce recoil. If that were the case there would be 4 puffs of smoke surrounding the barrel. Small amount o muzzle blast would indicate either a 20 gauge or 410. 3. The mounting of the gun is way off. The butt should be well down in the socket of the shoulder. 4. He is right handed, at lest every photo I’ve seen of him signing paperwork he has used his right hand. Since he is right handed, he is also most likely right eye dominant in which case he would be mounting the gun to the right shoulder not the left. The way he is holding the gun and the position of his head, he would be shooting under his target, and if really lucky might get 2 out of 10, most likely miss all. Shooting Trap or Skeet, with a double barrel, either side by side or over under, you seldom ever get a second shot unless you are rally good. Ex-fire arms instructor.

  Well I don’t know what he is shooting at, but when you shoot Trap or Skeet the clay “pigeons” come out at an angle into the air not usually at shoulder level or aimed in a downward motion. It’s usually upward toward the clay pigeon as it is flying out of the spring activated trap. His shotgun is not exactly aimed in a upward motion…. sorry guys. Mary711

  It’s true his head is low, but only for trap or skeet. The top of the stock is called cheeck rest for that purpose. Usually you only put your head that low if you are making a well placed shot. And if you hold the gun right the recoil won’t affect your head.

  OK, short answer to the jet of gas coming out the side of the weapon. It’s a competition grade shotgun designed for a RIGHT HANDED shooter. The gas vent is there to help offset the natural reaction of the body to recoil (ie your body turns toward the shoulder that is being pushed). The vent is to help keep you on target for a follow up shot (Over / under shotgun if my old eyes are not playing tricks on me). Trouble with this gun for this shooter is that it’s reversed to his shooting needs and will actually make his follow up prospects worse, not better.

  Actually, if the photograph was shot by a U.S. government official or employee or someone hired by the government, it no such restrictions are valid on the use of the photograph as it is property of the government and not subject to use restrictions or license restriction at all, based on my knowledge of copyright law (and, for disclaimer purposes, I am not a lawyer).

  Ho ho. I passed six feet in elementary school, all knees and elbows at 150#. It wasn’t too many years later that I got to shoot a .700 Nitro Express – from a sitting position because I knew I was going to be knocked down.

  I was thinking the same thing. So if it’s a vented barrel or has a muzzle break, why does it vent to the right. Because the shot gun is set up for a right handed person. Now if the spender and chief REAAALLLY goes shooting ALL the time up there and we know he’s not afraid to spend money, wouldn’t he have a shot gun set up for a left handed shooter if it had a muzzle break or vent. That and you would have to do a lot of shooting or due to health/strength issues need a vented barrel. Or be a wuss.
  
  OR, in place of a tactical flash light on the shot gun he has a tactical cigarette holder and that’s his cig smoldering while he’s shooting. Either way, he’s a toad.

  as a left handed person…who recently started getting firearms…most are made right handed…and I doubt he owns a gun, he probably just used the collection at Camp David.
  
  i was actually looking at his watch. As a left handed person, I always put my watch on my right hand because it interfers with writing and just feels unbalanced on my left. He is supposed to be left handed and he is shooting left handed, but we have had other left handed Presidents so you would think the Camp David collection would have at least one left handed shotgun available. After all, it would be a big no-no if the gas or shell came back an hit the President in the face, safety issue you know.
  
  The angle he is firing at also means either this is a staged shot, he is too dang close to the skeet thrower, or he just sucks at tracking and aiming. I say all three but that is just my opinion.
  
  And for someone that left fawns over physically, the Pres has a little bit of a beer gut going on… not those rock abs Chrissy Matthews gets tinglie over all the time…
  
  All in all, I still take the word of those that have been there with him…he might go out for the photo-op but he doesn’t stay longer than he has to and he HATES having to do it…it is beneath him…for those little people that CLING to their religion and guns and distrust of those not like themselves.

  Well, it looks like a Browning Citori with a ported barrel and yes you can purchase a left handed model. Unfortunately, that’s were the ‘correctness’ ends; if he shoots trap and skeet “all the time”, his shooting posture is all wrong, while you can’t see his feet, judging by his stance they are in the wrong position, my Browning is ported on both sides of the barrel, so what is smoke only coming out of one side on his? What the heck is he shooting at? He should be looking upward toward a target. As an avid trap, skeet and sporting clays shooter, there are so many flaws in the picture it’s silly. There may be some photoshop going on, but this is clearly a staged photo-op and nothing more. My hunch, it’s the first time the man ever help a shotgun.

This administration is good at finding things, they just found a whole bunch of new jobs in November and December, that never existed until today, to save them the embarrassment of an unemployment # at or above 8%. (When Bush had a rate of 4.7%, the media was screaming recession.)

I’m not a skeet shooter, but I know about aiming a weapon, and either his aim is REALLY low, or he is standing on top of a hill side, where the skeets are being shot up to his eye level.

  Sorry spank, no “recoil reducer” is a single hole on the side of the barrel of ANY gun,any gun.Either way,the used “stop motion” to catch the smoke plume coming out the barrel, and that one hole in the side, to “prove”, he shot a shotgun,but screwed up, since there is no recoil at all.My guess, they used a 2 inch light loaded shell,no pellets,and drilled a hole in the barrel to reduce any recoil. Lets see if someone asks him, or carney what gun that is,and what loads he uses for skeet. My guess is they wont, but if they do, you wont get a straight answer……..Btw,for those who say there are guns “ported” for recoil reduction, yes there are, but never a single hole on the side,recoil is an back and upward motion, something not shown in this picture…..

  It was a cherry bomb or very large firecracker. Why is he aiming straight; clays are shot straight up into the air by the “puller”. Maybe he was firing at Biden, Pelosi or Reid. God, could we get so lucky!

  The gun has a ported barrel , vented on the top, to reduce muzzle jump and allow a quicker return to a target.

  I trust you know the meaning of “son of a gun”? It is quite appropriate to someone always skeet-shooting. Loose women would tryst aboard visiting warships, astraddle the guns – like the traitor Hanoi Jand Fonda – hence their sons “sons of guns.”

  People at our Sportsmen’s Congress normally shoot skeet while they are up in the air. Therefore wouldn’t the gun be pointed up?

  All this photo op proves is Kings and Nobles will always have access to firearms.
