Near the tail end of 2011, the Obama administration caught a lot of ridicule for debuting a website they called (without irony) “Attack Watch,” devoted pretty much exclusively to trying to discredit their critics. Unfortunately for them, the idea became such a joke that these days, most people probably remember it as a parody video:
The tactic was so widely mocked that you wouldn’t expected it to have caught on. Yet apparently it did…in Europe.
The UK Telegraph reports:
The Daily Telegraph has seen confidential spending proposals and internal documents planning an unprecedented propaganda blitz ahead of and during European elections in June 2014.
Key to a new strategy will be “public opinion monitoring tools” to “identify at an early stage whether debates of political nature among followers in social media and blogs have the potential to attract media and citizens’ interest”.
Spending on “qualitative media analysis” is to be increased by £1.7 million and while most of the money is to be found in existing budgets an additional £787,000 will be need to be raised next year despite calls for EU spending to reflect national austerity.
“Particular attention needs to be paid to the countries that have experienced a surge in Euroscepticism,” said a confidential document agreed last year.
“Parliament’s institutional communicators must have the ability to monitor public conversation and sentiment on the ground and in real time, to understand ‘trending topics’ and have the capacity to react quickly, in a targeted and relevant manner, to join in and influence the conversation, for example, by providing facts and figures to deconstructing myths.”[...]
Paul Nuttall, UKIP’s deputy leader, has attacked the proposals, which he said, violate the neutrality of the EU civil service by turning officials into a “troll patrol”, stalking the internet to make unwanted and provocative political contributions in social media debates.
“Spending over a million pounds for EU public servants to become Twitter trolls in office hours is wasteful and truly ridiculous,” he said.
Needless to say, Farage’s speeches might require more than a few hastily written Twitter responses by EU supporters.

Feb. 4, 2013 at 1:08amThe rampant narcissism of these statist buffoons would be hilarious if it wasn’t so costly. How pathetic is it that you can’t take anyone talking bad about you and you have to create a department to go after it? Nevermind that your economies are on life support with an extreme likelihood of dying, no what matters is what Twitter has to say about you.
This is what happens when all those little egomaniacs from “super sweet 16″ grow up. I would say ignore them and starve them of attention, but unfortunately in the infinite wisdom of their electorates they were given power and authority. I guess watching their world collapse around them will be the only solace I can take from their downfall.

Feb. 4, 2013 at 1:04amThe rather simple catch phrase “Yes We Can” never seemed to have really been questioned.
After all, it sounds so positive…, so hopeful…, so unifying!
But “Yes WE Can” really increased and solidified division: “WE” verses them.
The question is, Yes WHO can ~~>what?
– Who is “we”??
– “Can”, what???
Obama, in all of his speeches (and interviews) says, “I” and “Me” and “My” and “Mine” –a lot.
He constantly tells “folks” who and what he is; president, commander in chief (ad nauseum).
Anyone who(really) pays attention will have noticed that WHEN he uses “we”, it is (probably)
for one of three reasons:
1) to draw “folks” into feeling “hope” about “change”; to get votes and/or to not question him.
2) to give history lessons/ lectures about other’s accomplishments; using other’s words & ideas as his own.
3) to avoid being held accountable for fooling/ blantantly lying he’ll say, “we did” “we are” “we will”
–But, who is “we” ~~> really?
“Attack Watch” is another curious choice of words.
Actually, they are quite similar to some of his other carefully chosen accusation and character- assasinating and divisive words: “bamboozle” “hoodwink” “enemies” .
–He accuses others of his own intentions and actions.
–He speaks in a type of riddle-like way; words have dual meanings (so to speak);
…that’s the transparency part of his promise.

Feb. 3, 2013 at 11:56pmPoliticians are supposed to understand trending topics before they are elected, and understand their duties to uphold the laws enacted by their predecessors? It’s not hard to understand that such a mechanism could be used to contain a message from swaying public opinion as much as protect decisions made in the past?
An example, the American discussion regarding “assualt weapons” where national voices are advancing myths about guns that are not true, also ignore the fact that the miitary takes things “off the shelf”, there will always be something on the shelf to take away as an excuse to limit your liberty, by the regulation of someone employed by the government with benefits that are not attainable in the private sector? Why?
They are concerned about loosing control of this apparatus they have built, which is far more difficult than anything they imagined? Technology should not be used as a human shield to either hide agendas, especially after decades of reports where government agendas have been proven made in error, neither do trending issues in most cases result in legislation over night.
Taking legal weapons sold to Americans away from them against their civil rights will neither stop warlords in Africa, or diminish the common sense that the majority of Americans can and should be trusted with a gun, only the media has the imagination it can accomplish that goal at the urging of manipulating your insecurities? Why?

Feb. 3, 2013 at 10:56pmAre you so sure that is not happening here? Government grant money to “start a business”? Web hosting companies paying “affiliates” fees so high they don’t make profits off the hosting for months at a time (creating a new business of course), meanwhile the web sites being set up are what, created to send more traffic to the hosting companies? Talk to Anthony about that?
Let me get this straight, Congress created no spam laws, but does not understand that there is a reason why search engines are increasingly having a hard time separating the private and government funded “start a business” web sites from legitimate traffic, and oh, how convenient, lets use social media to help search engines evaluate what’s on the web a little easier? What could go wrong?
You scratch my back, I scratch yours? This is the part in the movie where Jack Nicholson says you can’t handle the truth? There is nothing you can do to stop it, because some are legitimate businesses that do benefit? Stop listening to everything you hear, and learn what the political spam is from the news by listening to the very people you are told not to listen to?
Silence will not get you there Republicans? How much will the Americans contribute to political spin in Europe? Get your share of the stimulous money now, before it’s gone? Yeah, that site is still runnning? Liberal bloggers get rich by copying each other and making new web sites? Who knew?

Feb. 3, 2013 at 10:42pmWasn’t “Attack Watch” obama’s organization that enticed people to inform on their friends, neighbors and family for expressing criticism of the government, à la Nazi Germany?
I recall telling libs about this and being laughed at. These people are so stupid it’s shocking.

The EU is being propped up by our Federal Reserve.

Feb. 3, 2013 at 9:38pmI saw it.
All the banks (Bank of Japan, U.S., European Union) are working together to print money. Per Jerry Doyle this is to help the a$$ wipes on Wall Street who were over leveraged to have a soft landing.
In the mean time it takes away an saving that people might have. There is inflation & they are lying about it. After all this they expect people to save & not be conspicuous & voracious consumers?
How does fit in with environmentalism? If it is useless to plan & save, then why would a person not seek immediate gratification & consume, consume , consume?
Environmentalists are missing the boat. Of course they are. They are leftists.

Feb. 3, 2013 at 8:06pmIt’ very obivious after following some people that post here they are from left leaning sources, only here to try to entice the ( on the fence crowd ) uninformed.
Sendthemeteros is a prime example of a paid troll. He/She not sure from the picture, (aka Pat like) who this person is, but is always ahead of the news you and I get. So I am guessing he/she works or edits for some news agency like MSNBC or other (Beck has better ratings) and has a lot of time on their hands to Troll. Back in 2002 in Florida there was an add placed in a far left website site paying 10 bucks an hour for person’s who would ” Troll ” rightwing sites and disrupt the boards. I can not remember who it was but it was posted for 2 days before taken down. It was brought up on the MSN posting board, back then it was hardly moderated.

Feb. 3, 2013 at 6:38pmIt’s already here. I am pretty sure some of the comments I have seen on various websites are coming from paid obamabots. You can tell by several characteristics: they only post dfending the Regime. They are rude and profane, and often use the offensive term “*********”. On one site I noticed one would always come on at a certain time, then it seemed like he/she would take a “break” and another take the place, then the first one come back like an office timetable. I noticed one on a shopping website, of all places, and asked if she was paid by the campaign, and she actually admitted it. This was right before Obama’s first election. I definitely think there is a paid cadre of leftists posting trying to discredit conservatives and spread propaganda. They aren’t very good at it, though, and usually make fools of themselves.

Feb. 3, 2013 at 4:44pmThe campaign morphed into “Organizing for America” and is now “Organizing for Action”.
This organization has millions of email addresses and information about their followers. The “free Obamaphones” supplied to Obama’s followers, by means of which he keeps in constant touch with them, are provided courtesy of millions of people who pay for their own cell phone service by means of a “Federal Service charge” on their bills.
That was a neat trick on the part of Obama.
