Bill Stevens Delivers Epic Speech Against Gun Control | Sandy Hook Elementary Shooting

We already brought you Mark Mattioli’s anti-gun control testimony in front of the Working Group Public Hearing at the Connecticut State Capitol on Jan. 28 (Mattioli’s son, James, perished in the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting). You also likely saw father Neil Heslin’s comments. As you may recall, video footage of his statement ended up being deceptively-edited by MSNBC.

But one speech you potentially missed comes from Bill Stevens, a father of a child in the Newtown Public School District. Unlike many of the other parents who testified, his daughter did not attend Sandy Hook (however she is in the same district). And rather than going after firearms, he took a different approach: He defended gun owners and lambasted those seeking new laws to remedy the problem.

Now, viral video of his impassioned defense of the Second Amendment is making its rounds today — and it’s certainly worth watching. In it, Stevens delivers a blow to other parents and politicians who proposed tougher gun restrictions at the hearing and wonders aloud whether they have “failed American history.” He also takes the time to read from the state constitution, while fervently defending his right to protect his family.

“My fifth grade daughter was in lock-down on Dec. 14, 2012. Unfortunately, her classmate’s little sister was murdered in Sandy Hook that day when lock-down and 9-11 weren’t enough to protect her from an evil person — not protect her from an assault rifle or some other inanimate object but from an evil person,” he says during his testimony.

The father goes on to note that he isn’t interested in citing statistics, as he proceeds to defend the freedom of citizens to own firearms without additional restrictions, calling legislators’ attempts to further crack-down on guns “asinine legislation.” Here’s a portion of his excoriating commentary directed at politicians and others touting gun control initiatives:

“I’m frankly shocked by some of the testimony today. In case some here failed American history, there is something called the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and a process by which to amend it. The same goes for the state Constitution. These rights are inalienable and endowed by our Creator — not you politicians — to all citizens regardless of gender, race or creed. In order to limit the rights of individual there is something called due process and legislation is not due process. You want to take my rights away? Let’s go to court.”

Stevens continues by noting that an official report about the Sandy Hook massacre likely won’t come out until the summer and that any legislation preceding that release would be premature. The father takes particular exception with attempts to demonize gun owners, claiming that his right to defend his daughter should be unimpeded.

“My guns are not dangerous. They are at home locked up collecting dust and cat hair,” he proclaims. “But criminals and tyrants — tyrants especially — beware. Lockdown is not an option at the Stevens residence. And 9-11 will be dialed after the security of my home has been established.”

He also alluded to the fact that additional school security would be a good avenue to protecting his daughter, not “making her dad a criminal” for being a gun owner.

“Charlton Heston made the phrase ’from my cold, dead hands’ famous,” he concluded. “And I will tell you here today, you will take my ability to protect my Victoria from my cold, dead hands.”

I hope that the (R)’s will stand up and defeat any pending legislation to make me an illegal gun owner.
I have two 25 rd clips for one rifle(I hate reloading after every 10 shots), a second rifle holds 17(fixed magazine) and a 17 rd clip for one handgun(Factory made that way).
Why did (former) Mass, Senator John Kerry need a $7 million sailboat? Built in New Zealand instead of Maine? Docked in Rhode Island, which has no excise tax, instead of Mass., which does?
IT’S MY CHOICE, that’s why i need a bigger clip.
Shooting targets calms me when I’m stressed, like sailing does for alot of people.

Hurrah for this one man, who had no fear in telling this court of yahoo’s what he felt.. what more truth do these people need to hear! You will have millions who say the very same thing.. but be very careful.. what we need to do is create our own neighbor militia’s.. to protect ourselves.. if we have block after block after block of freedom lovers who love the COnstitution and the 2 amendment its time to band together. We cannot let one father in a neighborhood of gun owners go down by himself.. reach out now and start making new allies..and become one! But it isn’t only the 2nd amendment.. the 22nd is in trouble also.. where they are trying to change how many terms a president can serve. we cannot allow this amendment to be changed either.. so while your writing or calling your COngressman or Senators on gun control.. then also tell them in no way should the 22nd amendment be changed.. that is how tyranical dictators come into power! God help us!

Isn’t it nice to actually hear a “real” person speak from the heart? We need people like this representing us instead of the PC, polite , wimpy nerds we have now. The problems we all face now require short, sweet and to the point arguments in language EVERYONE can understand!
And most of all. Don’t give an inch!
I take my hat off to this man. If only our elected people would do more of this they would realize a following like they’d never seen before.

People, the battle lines are drawn and its time to take sides. If you don’t want to take a position, then in effect you already have already made your choice.
The Republican party is hopelessly corrupted and impotent. We need a new Constitutional, Conservative party, with a dynamic and unafraid leader. Ted Cruz comes to mind. How can anyone say they love their country and then not be willing to fight for it?

Fienstine Obama and Biden, also Eric Holder are fomenting a riot, they should be prosecuted for doing as much. Creating a campaign funded by the government to enact legislation is illegal. Giving money or favor to senators for votes is also illegal. The methods they are using are inciting the public and aligns with treason and the nature of infringement through executive order, falls in line with that. Holder is not enforcing federal laws in regard to prosecuting Gangs and Cartels, this is part of a plan to make Ural areas unlivable as roving gangs make it too dangerous to live there.

I really wish there was a good way to record all these patriotic statements and compile them, after this gun law is jammed through it will be good for the rest of America to remember what it was to have a constitution and be an American patriot.Something to teach our kids about how the commies came to power, and why we are all so poor now.

Now We See Why the H/C law was such a “big fing deal”. They will make us all subjects and slaves just be that one ACT alone! It MUST be REPEALED. Some how they will find a way in the H/C law to enact something that will INFRINGE. They are already at it. WHY IS 0 NOT IMPEACHED? Has everyone in Congress LOST THEIR COLLECTIVE MINDS? When we need them to pass sensible legislation to save the economy they spend more money. I want to and do buy semi auto …..let’s see my 1911 pistol is semi auto and wait for it…was designed in 1911 oh no and originally for the military …as are most fire arms including what was in existence at the time of the second amendment. CHICAGO has gun control and is no paradise…..don’t say it’s because surrounding areas have less because ILLINOIS IS NOT GUN FRIENDLY. Crack cocaine is available everywhere and legal where? Think smugglers won’t deal in guns too?
