UPDATED: Ron Paul Account Tweets Shock Message About Former SEAL Sniper’s Death

Scroll down for an update to this story:

A tweet referring to slain ex-SEAL Chris Kyle from the verified account of former Congressman Ron Paul is causing some serious commotion:

The reaction to Paul’s comments from conservatives on Twitter has been both swift and furious:

But, of course, here’s something to keep in mind:

Lastly, if you’re wondering about the references to Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.), the Michigan congressman on Monday accused Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) of being a racist because the former GOP presidential candidate jokingly implied that Iranian despot Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a monkey.

UPDATE: It’s looking more and more certain that Ron Paul did, in fact, tweet about Kyle’s death and “dying by the sword.”

“He runs it,” Campaign for Liberty communications director Megan Stiles said of the former congressman’s twitter account, according to BuzzFeed.

The Campaign for Liberty handles all of Paul’s press requests.

“She clarified that Paul started handling his own tweets ‘since he left office,’” the report adds.

UPDATE II: Posting to his Facebook wall, Paul builds on his earlier remarks:

As a veteran, I certainly recognize that this weekend’s violence and killing of Chris Kyle were a tragic and sad event. My condolences and prayers go out to Mr. Kyle’s family. Unconstitutional and unnecessary wars have endless unintended consequences. A policy of non-violence, as Christ preached, would have prevented this and similar tragedies. -REP

Meanwhile, Paul’s son, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), has seemingly backed away from his father’s controversial comments.

“Chris Kyle was a hero like all Americans who don the uniform to defend our country. Our prayers are with his family during this tragic time,” the senator from Kentucky said in a statement obtained by Breitbart News.

My father has PTSD diagnosed by the VA and is fully disabled because of it. He has rage issues…I would not take him to a firing range and put a loaded weapon in his hand. Ever. So, yes, probably not the best idea in my opinion. The wording could have been better though. PTSD has many many symptoms and there’s no catch all to define how it effects each person. I know someone else that has it as well and carries a firearm..lets just say, from his actions, I don’t like to spend much time around him and try to avoid doing so as much as possible. Not saying this is how all those that suffer from it are, but I prefer to err on the side of caution.

I honestly thought the same thing when i first read the story. Should someone with PTSD be hunting? They obviously are unstable, for good reason and more understanding i can not be, but I think the PTSD needs to be treated to the fullest extent before that person goes hunting. Either way, its a sad story and in todays politically correct world were you get blasted for everything you say, Ron should have known better.

200k twitter accounts just got hacked. Chris Kyle was being sued for defamation by Jessie Ventura because he said he punched Ventura in the face after he made negative remarks against a fallen navy seals. Judge allowed it to go to trial because there was overwhelming evidences that Chris Kyle was lying. This just shows how dangerous Ron Paul’s message is because both sides attack him. Glenn beck is an NWO stooge. Ron Paul is the answer. Listen to his farewell address on you tube and I bet you won’t disagree with one thing he says. I dare you to listen to it then maybe you will form you own opinions instead of allowing some one else to form them for you. Ron Paul is the answer.

Ron Paul is right … why would someone take a person suffering from PTSD to a range and give them a weapon or be around them when they have a weapon … especially, if that someone isn’t highly trained in the disorder. It makes no sense to me and I admire the sniper skills and mind-set of Kyle and deeply regret the needles and perhaps careless loss of his life when we need more me like him not fewer.

Ron Paul is just plain insane. He needs to go sit in his rocking chair with his plaid blanket covering his skinny bones and watch Jeopardy and Judge Judy all day. He is washed up and someone needs to tell him so. Just go on back to Texas Ron Paul. Your career or whatever the hell you want to have called it is OVER. A Gentleman always knows when to leave and when to sit down and shut up. Too bad you are no gentleman yet you pretend to be. You have no manners and no guts. PTSD does not drive people to kill people. In the old days they would have called PTSD a guilt trip. PTSD does not explain this shooting whatsoever. Not 1 bit. It serves to demonize war vets under false pretenses. Now, who does this benefit?

I beg to differ. My father suffers from it and has severe rage issues from it. I would never trust him with a loaded weapon. PTSD isn’t a very well understood syndrome and effects many people in many ways. To say that it doesn’t do so is very naive. I won’t say that it does 100% of the time, but as I said, it effects everyone differently, enough so that I would not be comfortable going to the range with someone who has it that I don’t know that well.

Most men coming back from war, even in WWII, DRINK and BEAT their wives or kids. Then if it gets real bad they will shoot themselves or their family. They do NOT go to a gun range like this and Chris KYLE was too smart a man to have let anyone kill him. This was a PLANNED ASSASSINATION. This was a well thought out KILL. This man was PAID to kill Chris Kyle or don’t you people get that? This is Manchurian Candidate and “Bourne Identity stuff or don’t you think our CIA and Obama’s Kill List can be easily accomplished? THINK PEOPLE! Think about Washington DC. Think about how SINISTER that place is…………are you done thinking?……it is so much WORSE than you can ever think or imagine. Most people don’t want to believe how BAD it is. They can do anything they want. They have the power to take anyone down and make it look like something else. Diversion and Manipulation of the FActs. That is what this is all about. They will send some ex military man to Kill another military man, but not just ANY military man, the BEST SNIPER in the WORLD? REally? Jaded,
I think what Gandhi was trying to say that in WWII a lot of them had PTSD and never said a word, never sought treatment and still managed to live their lives without taking anyone else out.

I highly suspect that my own father had it (WWII Frogman).

We used to go swimming in a pond across the street on really hot days. He would say something like “it is really hot” while sitting on the dock and making sure we weren’t drowning, we’d say “The water is nice, go get your suit!” his response was that he didn’t know how to swim. He rarely talked about the war and then it was generally, never specifically. I didn’t know what he for the army until after his death.

He taught both my brother and myself to shoot and even competed. Like I have said before PTSD is NOT a one size fits all diagnosis. Rape victims, children who have witnessed violent acts, war refugees (my mom says she can still hear the bombs dropping on her in Dresden sometimes when she thinks about it) or anyone who has witnessed something as random as a car accident are at risk for developing it with varying severity.

My parents are part of the reason I decided on psychology for my major as a young teen. I wish your father God Speed.

      Shoreline,

I never saw my father drunk, he drank twice a year, at the company Christmas party and on my parent’s wedding anniversary. He never beat me, my brother or my mother or anyone else for that matter. That statement is foolish.

I’m not one to quote things from the bible usually but… “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.”

Again a Ron Paul TRUTH has upset a lot of thumb suckers. Sandy Hook mom would not trust her son at a hot stove while she was gone but leaves him access to guns (not real smart). Here again, why someone takes another person with an acknowledged psychological problem and gives them a gun is ridiculous. You want to help someone transition how about a JOB…

Paul-bots, THIS is why the man cannot be a valid candidate for POTUS…
while many of his underlying ideas and positions are solid and laudable, he flies off the handle with ridiculous, unnecessary, inflammatory statements, which he fully means.

live by the sword, die by the sword? so because Kyle was trying to help another vet he should be killed by that willingness to be there? what sort of twisted interpretation of the facts was that?!

and considering the myriad approaches to treating PTSD, his snide discounting of exposure or extinction therapy is more naive then I believe the good doctor is…

a disappointing and casually cruel thing to say about an American hero.

While I don’t necessarily agree with that statement, most bible quoters are saying the same thing. Perhaps he was simply making an analogy, which can be drawn, that if we didn’t send men into wars, for political and financial gain, this may not be happening. We send billions to countries that hate us, send men to war that is not our concern, and who gets rich? We should defend our country and annihilate any country that attacks, but stay out of their affairs, unless they are an ally and need assistance.

This is a lot of knee jerk emotional reaction.

      @truthnstuff

That biblical quote had absolutely nothing to do with not going to war. It was a warning. If you’re willing to live by the sword, then you must accept that you will die by it… Warriors accept this, and most noble are the ones who do so and die defending others.

Ron Paul’s statement in this situation was just stupid as all hell, because the man wasn’t even at war- he was helping people with PTSD. If he was maimed in combat, and then came home crying and complaining about his injuries, then the statement would have made more sense, as it was his choice to go into the military. But he wasn’t complaining about anything, and was helping people in need… This is just more proof as to why Ron Paul is an old fool, I’m sure his son is probably embarrassed.

Or he’ll go into one of his long whiny rants about how we need to stop sending people to war, as he sounds like a muppet. Its all about yet again people with mental illnesses, and you don’t just get PTSD by being in the military. Police can get it, fire fighters can get it, anyone who has gone through serious abuse can get it, or any traumatic experience like living through a terrorist attack.
