UPDATED: Ron Paul Account Tweets Shock Message About Former SEAL Sniper’s Death
Scroll down for an update to this story:
–
A tweet referring to slain ex-SEAL Chris Kyle from the verified account of former Congressman Ron Paul is causing some serious commotion:
Chris Kyle’s death seems to confirm that “he who lives by the sword dies by the sword.” Treating PTSD at a firing range doesn’t make sense
— Ron Paul (@RonPaul) February 4, 2013
The reaction to Paul’s comments from conservatives on Twitter has been both swift and furious:
Ron Paul might want to ask Jesse Ventura what happened last time he ridiculed a dead SEAL.
— Lachlan Markay (@lachlan) February 4, 2013
In which @ronpaul is despicable: twitter.com/adamsbaldwin/s…

Maybe we can get some moron, marginal Republican to pour sugar in a single mom’s gas tank for a follow up.
— Sonny Bunch (@SonnyBunch) February 4, 2013
I’m glad I’ve always been in the “Ron Paul needs to STFU” camp, esp. after his tweet about Chris Kyle.

Grandpa’s talking to the furniture again twitter.com/RonPaul/status…
— David Burge (@iowahawkblog) February 4, 2013
You really are vile. RT @ronpaul: Chris Kyle’s death seems to confirm that “he who lives by the sword dies by the sword.”
— Rick Wilson (@TheRickWilson) February 4, 2013
I’d say @repjustinamash just lucked out. His pal @ronpaul is going to take alllll the heat this afternoon.
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) February 4, 2013
Amash’s attacking McCain for joking abt an Iranian dictator and Ron Paul is saying that Kyle’s murder was deserved. Good day for GOP so far!
— Sonny Bunch (@SonnyBunch) February 4, 2013
But, of course, here’s something to keep in mind:
Does @ronpaul run his own Twitter account? Might be a staffer screw up. . .
— Charlie Spiering (@charliespiering) February 4, 2013
Lastly, if you’re wondering about the references to Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.), the Michigan congressman on Monday accused Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) of being a racist because the former GOP presidential candidate jokingly implied that Iranian despot Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a monkey.
UPDATE: It’s looking more and more certain that Ron Paul did, in fact, tweet about Kyle’s death and “dying by the sword.”
“He runs it,” Campaign for Liberty communications director Megan Stiles said of the former congressman’s twitter account, according to BuzzFeed.
The Campaign for Liberty handles all of Paul’s press requests.
“She clarified that Paul started handling his own tweets ‘since he left office,’” the report adds.
UPDATE II: Posting to his Facebook wall, Paul builds on his earlier remarks:
As a veteran, I certainly recognize that this weekend’s violence and killing of Chris Kyle were a tragic and sad event. My condolences and prayers go out to Mr. Kyle’s family. Unconstitutional and unnecessary wars have endless unintended consequences. A policy of non-violence, as Christ preached, would have prevented this and similar tragedies. -REP
Meanwhile, Paul’s son, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), has seemingly backed away from his father’s controversial comments.
“Chris Kyle was a hero like all Americans who don the uniform to defend our country. Our prayers are with his family during this tragic time,” the senator from Kentucky said in a statement obtained by Breitbart News.

Posted on February 4, 2013 at 5:02pmSeems to me another politician speaking about something he/she is vaguely familiar with…. By all accounts, no doubt Chris was trying to help another veteran who was troubled. From the media account(s), the suspect supposedly was “in theater” for an unspecified time period and evidently had some issues reacquiring his bearings. To question “why” did Chris go to a range with somebody who is troubled with (PTSD), it’s what we do- ….
In laymen terms, you covet what you know and to a marine experienced in weapons, hitting the range with fellow compats is a way of grinding it out.
For Ron Paul, –> idiot.

Posted on February 4, 2013 at 5:01pmThe snipers kill “enemy combatant’s” most of which are armed parents trying to protect their families from foreign invaders, many of these people were not “soldiers” fighting against us, just armed to protect their families in general, just like us here in America.
Any person holding a firearm over there is considered a “enemy combatant” who amongst us would not pick up a gun to protect our families when our country is in turmoil?
These snipers kill anyone with a gun.
The problem with most on this site, is that you don’t believe those people’s lives are as important as your own, and contrary to what you say, you are filled with hate, instilled into you by the very Government you don’t trust? who else told you the people in thees Countries are our enemies?
You have all bought into the the very lie that our government is using to take our rights and Constitution away. Terrorism, the great lie! just an excuse to take freedom from weak minded people.
Stated differently, “Every Hero needs a Villon”

You seriously haven’t a clue as to what being in a theater of operations. You are right about people with guns there. You hold a weapon in your hand and you will get shot.
Please explain what you meant by stating “every hero needs a villian.”

Posted on February 4, 2013 at 7:41pmI believe Mr. Paul said exactly what he meant to say, and those reading it are attempting to twist it. In very plain English, he simply made a truthful statement. He who lives by the sword most certainly runs the risk of dying by the sword. I’m a former Marine and was in Iraq myself. Whether you use the term sword, or gun it really matters very little. Generally speaking those that live a violent life are more likely to die in a violent way. That is a given. Mr. Paul then goes on to state that he treating PTSD at a firing range doesn’t make sense to him. To be honest, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me either. I was infantry. I was also involved with a group of Chaplains and Corpsmen that were working on putting together a program to help people with PTSD. However, I don’t recall any of it involving a firing range. I think Chris was trying to help his fellow military members in the best way he knew how, and died believing he could make a difference in some people’s lives. That is really all there is to it. It is a tragedy all the way around.

Posted on February 4, 2013 at 4:17pmThat Mr Magoo looking sucker needs to worry about what time dinner is at the nursing home. I knew Chris. He would help anyone in need. The last time there was a storm here, he drove the neighborhood with his truck and chainsaw trying to see if he could help anyone in any way. And indeed he did. pawpaw Paul wouldnt know anything about that though. Chris has helped many vets with PTSD, and none of them did this. This cowardly act was the result of an evil man and satan taking the opportunity to use him as his tool. By the way, I think the last time Ron Paul saw a sword, I think it was stuck in a stone or something wasn’t it?

If anyone in service believes that this or any war is not justified, he has a moral obligation not to go to war; be afraid of God not government.

Posted on February 4, 2013 at 3:53pmA pretty insulting thing to say for every member of our military who has risked their lives defending ours. Even if you are opposed to the war, Kyle did not make the decision. He went and did his job. He was killed trying to help another soldier who was obviously troubled. A pretty chikensh*t thing to say.
As the old saying goes, – even the devil and quote scripture. I lost what respect I had for Ron Paul.

Posted on February 4, 2013 at 3:53pmRP really is a jerk for tweeting this comment. For those that think taking someone with PTSD out shooting is ill advised here is a quote from another story on “The Blaze” that say the opposite. It is from “Former Navy SEAL Brandon Webb” whom himself had PTSD. I would count him as an expert on the subject and he says “For many, a shooting range might seem like an unusual place to bring a person suffering with PTSD, but Webb said it is quite the opposite. “It’s like guys going out and playing catch and talking about issues,” Webb said. “Every Marine is a rifleman. It’s a familiar environment. There’s a level of trust and the walls come down.”.
Here is the link to the entire story – http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/02/04/former-seal-and-friend-of-chris-kyle-explains-why-a-ptsd-sufferer-would-be-at-a-range-and-cautions-anti-gun-advocates/

Posted on February 4, 2013 at 3:45pmI realize Ron Paul was drafted but isn’t it a bit hypocritical to tout your military service as he did in his campaign? Remember his ads tooting his own horn for helping veterans obtain medals for heroism during war? I really think he should have been more sensitive to the Kyle family.

why should ron paul unilaterally give up that fact? When all the other candidates say we should go to war and then criticize ron paul as being hippie or isolationist – it is a good idea to bring up the fact that he was the only one on that stage to serve (except rick perry)

Posted on February 4, 2013 at 6:14pmI don’t fault him for using his military service during the campaign. His service to our country is one of the few things I admire about the guy. I just don’t understand why he would honor our veterans then, by seeking the medals of valor they deserve, and show a total lack of respect for one of heroes now. I hope he offers a sincere apology for his remarks. Chris Kyle’s family deserves that.

Two questions.
1) Does the result seem to confirm “he who lives by the sword dies by the sword.”
2) Does taking someone with PTSD to a firing range make sense.
1) Yes
2) No
There’s nothing offensive here people. You’re hatred of Ron Paul and liberty is showing.

Posted on February 4, 2013 at 4:12pm@ All Pro – Yes statement 1 is offensive but that is not what is bad about the statement. It is flat out rude to ALL of our men in the service to suggest that they are getting what they deserve if they die by violence. Make no mistake that is EXACTLY what RP was suggesting.
Yes it does make since to take a Marine out to the range to engage in something he is probably comfortable with. To engage in that activity with others with a similar comfort level in that activity and that have or have had the same problems. It probability helps the one suffering to start to talk about things and that is the road to recovery. I would not be surprised to learn that Chris Kyle has taken dozens of men (women possibility) dealing with PTSD out shooting successfully.
The ones that can really answer question #2 are other fighting men with our without PTSD. I suspect most would say it depends on the person but generally war fighters helping war fighters is a good thing and the range is one way to bring down walls and start talking and healing.
