Texas Lesson Plan Instructs Students to Design Flags for a ‘New Socialist Nation’
A curriculum system used across the state of Texas reportedly includes a lesson plan for 6th graders instructing students to create a flag for a “new socialist nation” using “symbolism to represent aspects of socialism/communism.”
The following was taken from the CSCOPE curriculum lesson plan: “Notice socialist/communist nations use symbolism on their flags representing various aspects of their economic system. Imagine a new socialist nation is creating a flag and you have been put in charge of creating a flag. Use symbolism to represent aspects of socialism/communism on your flag. What kind of symbolism/colors would you use?”
Upon discovering the controversial material, members of the Texas Senate Education Committee grilled the creators of the CSCOPE curriculum system in a hearing on Thursday.
Several witnesses testified before the committee and accused the program of promoting far-left, anti-Christian values while others called the program openly socialist, the Star-Telegram reports. Other critics said it is difficult for non-teachers to review the program.
“Discontent is rampant across the state,” said Peggy Venable, the Texas director of Americans for Prosperity.
Wade Lebay, director of state CSCOPE at the Region 13 Education Service Center in Austin, defended the program and its content.
“It’s built by teachers, designed by teachers and that’s what’s powerful about CSCOPE,” Lebay said.
In regards to the assignment asking students to create a flag for a new socialist nation, first-term Sen. Larry Taylor (R-Friendswood) asked whether the assignment makes it appear that “we’re sympathizing with those types of countries.”
He went on to call the lesson plan “very egregious as a Texas and an American.”
Linda Villarreal, director of the Region 2 Education Service Center in Corpus Christi, further defended the assignment and accused lawmakers of singling out “just this one” assignment.
Sen. Donna Campbell (R-San Marcos) argued that CSCOPE also reinforces uniformity in Texas schools.
“Our teachers don’t need to be scripted,” Campbell said.
TheBlaze’s Mike Opelka previously reported that the same curriculum, CSCOPE, also includes a lesson plan that calls the Boston Tea Party an act of “terrorism.”
The following was included in the lesson plan for the Boston Tea Party:
News report: New Act of Terrorism
A local militia, believed to be a terrorist organization, attacked the property of private citizens today at our nation’s busiest port. Although no one was injured in the attack, a large quantity of merchandise, considered to be valuable to its owners and loathsome to the perpetrators, was destroyed. The terrorists, dressed in disguise and apparently intoxicated, were able to escape into the night with the help of local citizens who harbor these fugitives and conceal their identities from the authorities. It is believed that the terrorist attack was a response to the policies enacted by the occupying country’s government. Even stronger policies are anticipated by the local citizens.
“[T]his lesson comes from a non-profit group called CSCOPE. They are an offshoot of an educational program that traces its roots back to 1965 when the state established media centers / Education Service Centers (ESCs) throughout each of the state’s 20 school districts,” TheBlaze reported.

A liberal conspiracy? Do they teach that the millions of years required for continental drift is false because the continents actually moved in a short time during the Great Flood?
Speaking of the Great Flood, is this the same school that teaches that the fossil record places dinosaurs and trilobites, for example, at an earlier era than humans is only because the flood washed them into the ocean first? What God really extra careful to make sure no modern mammal fossil was never, ever found alongside a dinosaur fossil?
Is this the same school teaches that all the findings of astronomy and cosmology about the universe are wrong, and that God created a universe to look 10 billion years old to anyone with the intelligence to study it? Did God just play a big joke on the human race?
Sorry folks. If the youth of today are taught the beliefs that haven’t been held by educated people for 400 years, including religious people and clergy, the rest of the world will leave us behind.

This story has nothing to do with intelligent design being taught as hypothesis along with the big bang hypothesis. Why are they so anxious to turn the discussion in that direction? I pulled my kids out of a school a few years ago after I had to help my daughter write a speech about how great it was that they were becoming an IB world school. Not knowing what an “IB world school” was I did some quick research and was outraged when I realized the communist, UN garbage that has invaded our country and is directed at our children. Posted on February 5, 2013 at 12:42pmgalicant, yes, I’m in favor of students learning about different forms of government in the world. And yes, sixth graders often draw pictures as part of an assignment.
You can see here at this website that very few people understand different forms of government. One socialistic concept is the communal ownership of property, something you and I both know to be bad and we hope something that will never happen in this country. That would be the first step toward totalitarianism.
Except wait, we do have communally owned property in this country! Like, uh, roads, highways, traffic signs, parks (both state and federal), libraries, schools, sewer lines and treatment plants and so on. We have lots of communally owned property. Then there is the fire department, police department, the army, the VA. That’s all socialism.
Maybe you want the WalMart family to own the road in front of your house (and make you pay a toll), the library, the cops etc. But I don’t.

Sir, Creationism is hardly BS. It is backed by scientific study. Furthermore, if you were to carefully study the Bible, you’d find a TON of REFERENCES to scientific facts that we didn’t even DISCOVER through modern science until hundreds…nay, THOUSANDS of years after the authors of the Bible actually wrote the pages. What’s more, it’s hardly unscientific to suggest that the order in which we see the universe and organisms and all is as it all is due to a supreme being. Again, there’s nothing unscientific about it. Would you argue that a remote control put itself together? Or is it clear that there is such craftsmanship in the wiring and an organization of information behind the design and function of the remote? If I stated that I believed the remote put itself together by “evolution”, you’d call me crazy! Even though neither of us has ever seen the person/people who put the remote together or designed its specs. So, why then, do you ridicule those who would believe in the One who designed such an elaborate universe? It’s hypocritical, sir, to speak against the VERY SAME IDEA – there is a creator – which supports the argument for how a remote came to be.

Posted on February 6, 2013 at 8:24amMeteors,
Great! I’m glad to hear your response. It brings up a couple of important points. Are you in favor of schools teaching that a constitutional republic and a free market economy are historically superior to other forms of government/economies? Is it OK for public schools to teach that America is exceptional and that socialism/communism is a failed policy that has lead to the death of millions?
In an ideal world where humans are always perfectly honest and good, communal property is a great thing. We are communal beings, designed that way. We are also tainted. There is laziness, greed, envy; people make foolish decisions. These things keep the utopia of socialism from becoming a reality. Despite the failures of others, with complete personal responsibility one can have total freedom. If I choose to take care of my water and sewage, pave my own roads, teach my children, create my own electricity and protect my property I can thrive without the government or any company. However since I don’t want to pave my roads the question becomes who do I want to pay to do it for me. If I choose to contract Mr. Walton and pay him a fee, and he does poorly, I can go to Mrs. Target instead. The price stays fair because Mr. Walton and Mrs. Target have to provide the same service at the same price to stay competitive. Apparently you would rather pay Mr. Senator who will do the job to whatever standard he decides and then demand your toll with a gun to your head.

Commies like their symbolism after all, so let’s show them what communism is really about. A bunch of starving people getting what’s left of their meager substance taken from them by a bunch of government fat cat’s for the sake of “fairness.” A few mass graves full of people who have dared to disagree with the “will of the people.” Or, failing that, why don’t we just have a bunch of empty unfulfilled promises of better healthcare, education, and prosperity with all the victims left broken and bereft in the streets, while their governments create departments to monitor twitter.
Anything can be a learning experience, and this is a very simple way to demonstrate to your kids just how terrible these systems really have been for their people.
Plus, “education system created by teachers,” are any of us really surprised by this? Educators seem to be a never ending font of frutopian dreaming. What are we going to discover next, that Bloomberg is a control freak?

The Founders envisioned a nation with shifting majorities based on competing interests, thus avoiding the tyranny of a permanent majority. Since you’ve chosen to display a black clenched fist, I can only conclude that you are a black racist who sees black people as belonging to a monolitic group made up of people who are in lockstep with leftist victim rhetoric. Anyone with black skin who can think for himself or herself is therefore declared not black and excommunicated from the race, hence terms like Uncle Tom, Oreo etc. The irony is that you are still on the white man’s plantation; you’ve grown up listening to white liberals and they’ve got you conditioned. It’s a shame, but at this point you are nothing more than a trained parrot.

Yeah. Good luck with that. Neither political party can even get more than half the population to even vote. Are you really moronic enough to think that there is going to be some huge rebellion by the majority of people who don’t care about politics as long as they can watch TV and have sex with whomever they want?

Because as much as we might hope that our military and LEOs will fight for “we the people” and for liberty, they will not. One day you will wake up and find that our military is going door to door collecting guns. And when you ask them “how can you do that?”, they will say “just following orders”. That is why we must create an army now, before they make their move. The soldiers we all celebrate today will be marching in our streets and killing us tomorrow because they are “just following orders”. A lot of good people in Germany committed heinous crimes against humanity because they were “just following orders”. It’s human nature to just obey and go along with the crowd.

If you want the “British perspective”, then I think the word “vandalism” would be the appropriate term.
But to call the Boston Tea Party terrorism not only libels the patriots who took part in the action, but it also dishonors the victims of actual terrorism. Real terrorism is not protestors throwing tea into the bay. Rather, it is a sinister act of violence – often murder – intentionally inflicted upon innocent civilians with the goal of causing fear.

It is a sad thing that, when presented with reasonable argument that you cannot refute, you resort to the tactic of creating falsehoods.
Since it is clear that you require only the most plain response – one which does not ask for even the most basic use of logic – I will give you a definition that even you can understand.
Terrorism has the following characteristics:
1) The use of violence or the threat of violence against civilian populations
2) It is for the purpose of advancing a political or social cause.
3) Just because a terror attack does not kill or harm anyone does disqualify it from being terrorism. If the intent of the attack is to gravely harm or kill civilians, then it is terrorism. If the attack has reckless disregard for human life, then it is also terrorism.
4) A campaign of threatened violence, such as cross burnings, is also a form of terrorism.

Fury is brewing at Rocky Mountain High School, in Colorado, after a multicultural student group were encouraged to recite the Pledge of Allegiance over the loudspeaker in Arabic – replacing ‘one nation under God’ with ‘one nation under Allah’.
Following Monday’s pledge, Principal Tom Lopez has been inundated with complaints from outraged parents concerned that saying the Pledge in any language other than English is unpatriotic.
Standing by his controversial decision, Principal Lopez has said that despite the irate telephone calls and emails, he is not in any way or form trying to push an Islamic agenda at the Fort Collins school.

Oh my, you really don’t understand languages do you? A word for “god” does not mean “a specific god”, and even “God” doesn’t mean one “God”, it signifies one deity, who is named Yahweh. The word “god” is neither pagan nor Christian, it is rather an artifact of Germanic languages defining a noun, just as “deus” is the same for the Latin language and its derivatives, so there is no “the pagan god Dios”, you simpleton.

Yes, I know. Again, this is literally my point. So when Blazers kneejerk because some kids recited the Pledge in multiple languages, including Arabic, and therefore necessarily referred to ‘Allah’, this did not indicate some conspiratorial attempt to convert children into Muslims, it’s literally just how you say ‘God’ in Arabic.
