It was a hunting guide who discovered the bodies of Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield at Rough Creek Lodge in Glen Rose, TX, on Saturday after Marine reservist Eddie Ray Routh allegedly turned the gun on them, the Stephenville Empire-Tribune reports.
That’s just one of the latest details to be uncovered as a timeline begins to emerge surrounding the murder of the 38-year-old Kyle, the popular author and former SEAL sniper, and his friend this past weekend.

This photo provided by the Erath County Sheriff s Office shows Eddie Ray Routh. Credit: AP
The Tribune says that, according to Erath County Sheriff Tommy Bryant, the trio arrived at the lodge around 3:15pm CT on Saturday and it was the first time they had all went to the range together as a group. Less than two hours later — around 5pm — a hunting guide found the bodies and called 911.
Sheriff Bryant said both men were shot by Routh more than once with a semi-automatic handgun. That gun was later recovered at Routh’s residence, confirming that he did return home after leaving the lodge.
And while we already know that Routh, 25, made off with Kyle’s truck and was arrested on the highway after a brief chase, we now have more details about the time following the incident at the lodge.
RadarOnline.com quotes Bryant as saying Routh actually told his sister what happened after the shooting.
“He stopped and told his sister and brother-in-law what had happened,” Bryant said. “He left to his home in Lancaster and they notified authorities.”
It’s unclear what else, exactly, he did between the hours after the shooting — besides returning home — and before being captured by
police. However, the Tribune does add more detail about the chase that eventually led to Routh’s capture. According to the outlet, police did use spike strips to slow him down and eventually apprehend him around 9pm CT. You can see pictures of the chase aftermath here.
We also know a little more about Littlefield, 35, and family: His wife, Leanne, is an assistant principal at Walnut Grove Middle School, the Tribune reports.
Finally, Bryant said that it appears Routh’s mother may have reached out to Kyle to help her son as he struggled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Kyle, who “received 14 different awards and decorations, including two Silver Stars, five Bronze Stars, and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals,” according to the New York Daily News, leaves behind a wife and two children.
Routh has officially been charged with two counts of capital murder and his being held on a $3 million bond. On Sunday, the Tribune reported that his stay in jail hasn’t been peaceful: he was tasered Sunday evening after becoming aggressive.
“After he ate dinner, he refused to give his tray back to the jailers,” Sheriff Bryant said. “He became aggressive and tried to assault them so they tasered him.”
The local Glen Rose Reporter says he’s now being restrained to a chair in his cell. It also notes that he’s been getting death threats.
According to RadarOnline, Routh had a run-in with authorities about a year ago for a DWI. ABC says Routh was stationed in both Afghanistan and Haiti.

Feb. 4, 2013 at 10:02amThere are going to be more and more incidents like this one as our troops return home mentally broken from a pointless war and with no support from our government who asked them to do this job in the first place. This, i am sure, will be used by politicians to push a number of their political agendas. I still find it hard to believe 3 prominent figures in the shooting world have died so close together…its just odd.

This was predicted only a year ago. Democrats were failing in their agenda around the nation. They have lost the gun issue so now are assassinating pro 2nd Amendment advocates and escaping. As this new Democrat Party policy is shown to be successful they will start murdering more conservative leaders.
I now keep a shotgun close at hand in my home, workplace, and when working in they yard.

AR154ME – you are right, but it doesn’t have to be this way… We are allowing these weaknesses to be distorted and used as an excuse. If you look at the WWII generation and how they came back. There was more support for that war and if you survived combat you were a hero. There is no reason to be over there placing our soldiers at risk. There are things that happen here in America that could cause PTSD – Look at Chicago, it s war zone…

Feb. 4, 2013 at 10:59amOne thing is happening these warriors returning home have to fight the VA for help and more times then not are thrown under the bus. We use the military for everything to protect us and then we have people saying they are all going to shoot someone. Chances are they will kill themselves before harming anyone. The military is used as a prop for the KING all the time. The real fats are clear as day light, the country wants to forget about them and all the wars. Stupid liberals don’t always serve, however I many that did, but they sat in an office not in combat.

Feb. 4, 2013 at 12:46pmThe government loves stories like this, they will use this to say more gun control is needed. They make these soldiers go crazy by sending them over and over and over and over on tour until they either die physically or emotionally. Then they send the guys back home to shoot up the place and they spin it to say more gun control is needed. Both the victims and the perp are all victims of “Bush’s Blunder” in his invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. This now never ending war because so many companies are making money with war equipment. Another term for that is called fascism.

Feb. 4, 2013 at 1:12pmFirst of all I do not think our troops are treated all that well under this administration.. 72% of those who have died have been under Obama’s watch. Look at past pictures of our troops with Bush and then pictures of them with Obama. Most of them look very unhappy.. Second of all I believe those who join the service need to go through and mental health test first.. war isn’t for everybody.. didn’t we learn anything from the Vietnam War, when we have some American’s who demeanor our troops and make them feel bad about what they do. After all.. we should be cheering men who put their lives on the line to fight for our freedom and the freedom of others. isn’t that what its about. And I don’t mean cheering the killing.. I don’t think most servicemen like tokill… but it has to happen.. to preserve the life of oothers and self. Think of the youngmen who went to help Ambassador Steven’s.. these men were valiant heroes.. unlike those who wouldn’t lift a finger to help! All men no matter where, should be free. Now we have a administration who gives weapons of mass destruction to the Muslim Brotherhood, the Libyain’s, the Syria rebels etc, but wants to disarm American’s. People who cannot see what is happening are just plain blind and in denial! God help us!

Feb. 4, 2013 at 1:47pmI’m sick of being talked about like we’re all broken. We’re all not broken, we’re not domestic terrorists, we’re not mentally unstable and we don’t have a frakking DISORDER!
Post Traumatic Stress is not a disorder, it’s completely normal, though it can lead to actual disorders, like depression. We veterans need to adjust from our experiences, some need help, some more than others because you can plummet into depression while coping with PTS.
If this wasn’t a premeditated murder, as some are calling it an assassination, then I wouldn’t rule out a very heated argument. Anyone who has spent time in the military and worked with other branches or other prior service from other branches, there have been fights talk crap to each other. It’s completely reasonable that an argument went way too far and some idiot turned murderer.
But I’m sick of being lumped up into one broken mentally weak group who needs our damn hands held by the government. I can personally tell you the crap the commands and government put us through is far more stressful than combat. We found every reason to go on every mission to get away from the BS on the FOB.
Veterans have proven through the generations that we are strong, even with our stressful experiences.

Feb. 4, 2013 at 3:52pmI’m concerned about the media reports that Routh had PTSD. None of that has been confirmed and they’re all too happy to blame the murders on someone or, better yet, SOMETHING. I’ve heard reports he never served in combat. Makes that diagnosis more difficult, though not impossible. There are many varying degrees of PTSD. I was diagnosed with chronic and severe PTSD 21 years ago ( before it became popular). I haven’t killed anyone, or for that matter, haven’t harmed anyone who didn’t deserve it lol I fear this is going to become part of the “universal background check” and I will not be able to purchase fire arms and/or ammo. Feb. 4, 2013 at 4:05pm@KENB001-One thing that is different also from WWII is the type of fighting that is going on is completely different from then. These are non uniformed, guerrilla style soldiers and we are trying to fight them in a conventional style with our troops hands tied behind their backs. This brings me to pint #2, they have been fighting this war way longer than WWII and it seems it will never end now that they are going into Africa and maybe Iran at some point. We back home have become so desensitized to these wars that we ignore its other victims, the troops. When was the last time you saw a troop death count in the news? How about a suicide amongst soldiers count? this war will never end unless we elect better people into office and end the pointless fighting and nation building. Bring them all home already, put them to guard our borders and children. If you want to fight terrorism, stop buying oil from the middle east and OPEC and start to produce domestically. Kill the cash flow to the middle east.

Feb. 4, 2013 at 4:43pmThe Hidden Cause of Society’s Deadly Decline
From the March 2013 Trumpet Print Edition » (interestingly the writer of this article quotes Glenn Beck)………..We live in a time unlike any other in history. World events are moving rapidly toward the end of this age. There is an unseen reason why troubles are intensifying as never before. You cannot understand events without recognizing this truth!
An event occurred in 1986 that marked a MAJOR turning point in history. It has radically altered everything that has happened since: culture, family, education, religion, science, finance, politics, international relations—EVERYTHING WE DO. It has affected the United States in a MASSIVE way.
Yet what is most remarkable is, almost no one even knows it happened.
To understand this world-quaking event, let’s first look at some of what occurred right after it took place.
The Demonizing of Robert Bork
On July 1, 1987, President Ronald Reagan nominated a highly respected judge, Robert Bork, to become an associate justice on the U.S. Supreme Court. Within 45 minutes, Massachusetts Democrat Edward Kennedy took to the floor of the Senate and demonized him. “Robert Bork’s America,” he said, would produce back-alley abortions, segregation, censorship and midnight police raids. ……..cont’d reading on link noted below…. https://www.thetrumpet.com/article/10310.20.152.0/united-states/the-hidden-cause-of-societys-deadly-decline

TOO MANY of our greatest HEROES are being murdered or “shut up” in one way or another. This “thing” has confessed to killing these heroes, so why do we have to go through the agony of a long drawn out trial just for him to “admit” what we already know! Feb. 5, 2013 at 5:14pmThere IS help for returning veterans. I am a PTSD veteran in the system; I’ve watched the VA’s mental health clinics change tremendously in the last almost 32 years. The one on one talk therapy and group therapy I now receive for my PTSD works, as opposed to the “here’s a pill you should begin feeling better in a few weeks, bye-bye”.
They have a separate PTSD clinic, and a MST clinic, (Military Sexual Trauma). They have a large number of groups at all hours of the day and evening. You can call, there is even a hotline for emergencies. You can walk in because there is an urgent care / emergency mental health clinic. There are social workers to help you find resources if you are struggling. They have in and out patient programs for those struggling with alcohol and addiction. ANY VETERAN returning can receive help for free, for up to five years I believe.
What’s the catch? THE VETERAN HAS TO GO THERE AND ASK FOR HELP. When everyone agrees to remove the stigma from mental illness, more Veterans will feel comfortable going in for help.
The surest sign of strength is knowing when to ask for help.
p.s. I am not saying that every VA Facility is the same, but the VA IS growing and changing and they are all going to catch up. Meanwhile, Vets still need to seek help.

The gvt needs to wake up transition them back in to as he said the real world and you cant tell me they arnt aware of thoes who could be high risk of PSTD. They do prisioners but not vets. Sad. I said to him and bought him a coffee thank you for protecting our country His responce No thanks needed mam just carring out what I signed up to do. This seems to be a never ending war. —-
Why not? Those savages place death fatwas on people, don’t they? They also fit the “violent and angry” profile better than anyone else, right? Like I said in a previous post, this guy was far from delusional when he murdered Chris and his friend, since he remembered what he had done, and in fact confessed his crime to a family member. Also, if he had suffered a psychotic episode, he would have felt unbearable emotional pain and regret once he came to, but Routh has shown no compunction or emotional distress at having killed his mentor and friend. Finally, we now know he shot Chris more than once and, judging by the timeline, as soon as they got there. Since he was not delusional, it signals revenge and extreme hatred.
All the above strongly suggest premeditated murder. It could very well be that this snake framed Chris, that HE was the one who suggested they go to the shooting range. It was the perfect place to murder his victims: isolated, deserted, a place where Chris would feel relaxed and let his guard down, and Routh could easily shoot him from behind.
Then there’s the Muslim beard…

Seems like so many people have to tie every event into some plot by evil men so it doesn’t seem senseless. We don’t know all the details. We may never know. But it seems the killer has some deep emotional and psychological problems. What really amazes me is that unlike say Breitbart’s death there’s nothing suspicious about this murder. Nothing coincidental. Nothing seemingly covered up or misreported. Nothing that seems fishy. I can think of no other reason to shout conspiracy then to make oneself feel warm and cozy that somewhere out there some shadowy man is in control of all those terrible random events. It’s a weakness. One many need to correct. If you jump at all the shadows you won;t be able to recognize the ones worth fearing. And you look foolish. Feb. 4, 2013 at 9:41ama tragedy for men trying to help a Brother in Arm who was hurting, but if they were demonstrating long range shooting, one would have been proned out on the scope and the second likely kneeling on the spotting scope… a double action handgun would have taken one out before either knew what was happening, so sorry, folks, it could happen…
i agree, the Administration is giong to try to use this to their advantage
i also agree that the push to claim all soldiers have PTSD but conveniently do nothing about reaclimating the troops while still in service is a means of preventing trained folks from having arms in their homes.
and i believe Kyle would forgive this guy, who clearly is not right minded… obviously more care was necessary in the run up to taking him to the range. likely neither knew about the hand gun; a third helper might have offered all a chance at survival.
it’s tragic, but war broke this young man, and a country whose government and armed forces don’t try to fix their outgoing troops, leaving it to other veterans instead contributed.

Feb. 4, 2013 at 3:44pmAfleetcommand, “Breitbart” is exactly what came to mind the minute I heard of Kyle’s and his friend’s deaths. But according to Subhuman, this bit of “paranoia” indicates senseless fear and jumping at all the wrong shadows. Guess we need to develop more trust of our leaders in this nation, like, say, Ambassador Chris Stevens displayed when he asked the state department repeatedly for personnel and help in Libya. Then we won’t be seen as paranoid.

Feb. 4, 2013 at 11:21amTRUTH…are you expressing that (combat vets with PTSD shouldn’t own firearms) as a personal opinion or as the narrative they are trying to spin?
If you are speaking to their narrative, then you are 100% correct and I’ve been warning the Vets around me that they will try a “PTSD gun grab” before all this talk of “mental health requirements” is through. It makes the most sense towards their end goal. There is only ONE group of people in this country that you are guaranteed will physically resist ANY direct attempts on our gun rights, and that is our vets…they are also, BY FAR, the most dangerous (to the regime) group of people in the country.
If, however, you are attempting to show support for denying 2nd amendment rights to us (as I have been diagnosed with PTSD and have monthly “sessions” with a VA Dr to make sure I’m “doing alright”), then that is a VERY different thing entirely…I would NOT suggest continue to advocate for this if you are…you will, more than likely, find yourself on the losing end of that battle when the day comes.

But one thing is certain. They cannot keep jumping on every tragedy even remotely related to firearms and not suffer a huge backlash. Even on the Left there are gun owners. Feb. 4, 2013 at 9:44amThe truth is we don’t know exactly what went down. I personally knew a woman who was murdered by her son who was also suffering from PTSD. He was also a recent returning Vet. Shooting your own Mother is pretty low as well. But again we don’t know exactly what was going through this kids head. It is a tragedy that is gut wrenching. The V.A. needs to do more but you have a showboating POTUS that is more concerned with the superficial than substance. He will do little for the 30% of Vets returning with PTSD.

The difference it makes is that Americans will not stand down when/if our country and our soldiers’ lives are at stake… why? because WE are the USA and will rally for freedom and justice.

This is where the What ifs come from, could i have done it better, did i make a mistake, could i have prevented the death of my comrade or innocent bystander. this goes on in a in a veteran’s mind over and over again depending on the severity depends on if he can work or not,The veteran spills the incident over to all aspects of decision and questions all decisions he or she makes from the simple to the complex.

Men, women, and teenagers are all being labeled as having PTSD for something. People who may have been “bullied” in grade school can be diagnosed with it. Homeless and stressed about it? PTSD.
The regime will get to work on mental health alright. And the American Psychiatric Association will add new disorders and develop more relaxed guidelines to make it easier for anyone to be slapped with a psychiatric diagnosis. Just watch and see what they try to do.

Feb. 4, 2013 at 9:33amYeah, it’s pretty scary how easy it is for some shrink or other medical professional to dx someone with a psych or unspecified non-psychotic mental disorder.
Feeling down for a couple of days? You’re clinically depressed.
Stressed out about work or school responsibilities? Must be generalized anxiety disorder.
Had a spouse you yelled and screamed at during your arguments, and who yelled at you right back? You’re a victim of domestic abuse.
Feeling a bit down for more than a few days? Why, that’s a single episode of major depression. Here’s your Rx for Celexa and Abilify.
Don’t get me started on how many people carry an explosive personality, unspecified schizophrenia, or unspecified bipolar dx… (Notice they’re usually unspecified. It’s easier to pigeon hole the pt that way.)
It’s getting easier and easier to apply these “disorders” to people who experience normal feelings regarding day-to-day living. And there are more than enough doctors willing to prescribe meds for any “disorder” you might have, real or imagined (read: ginned up by the APA).
