Beck Delivers Excoriating Rebuke of Ron Paul Over ‘Ugly and Offensive’ Tweet About Chris Kyle’s Death
This morning, Glenn Beck delivered an excoriating rebuke of former Texas congressman Ron Paul. The radio host’s tough words for the former representative were an official response to Paul’s much-publicized tweet about ex-NAVY SEAL Chris Kyle’s death. Beck began his comments by praising Kyle’s bravery and his devotion to America, going on to outline his shock at the politician’s decision to comment so callously.
The host honored Kyle as “one of the brightest, bravest heroes” and praised him for his combat tours. In addition to highlighting this devotion to the military and penchant for saving American lives, Beck also focused upon other important attributes pertaining to Kyle’s faith and family roles.
“A husband, a father, a son, an unquestioned patriot — a man who didn’t talk about Jesus, but lived his Christian belief — was senselessly murdered by a fellow veteran he was just trying to help,” he continued.
After praising the brave ex-SEAL, Beck outlined his surprise by Paul’s Twitter message, which read (in case you missed it), “Chris Kyle’s death seems to confirm that ‘he who lives by the sword dies by the sword.’ Treating PTSD at a firing range doesn’t make sense.” The radio host held little back in his reaction.
“Well, Dr. Paul, he wasn’t treating it. I’m sorry that you listened to the media,” he said “I thought you knew better than that. Aren’t you a guy that just loves to blame the media on coverups — on things like Tower number Seven? Suddenly, you rush to believe the media.”

But rather than tearing into the former congressman further, at this point, Beck paused to note Paul’s devotion to the U.S. Constitution and, despite disagreeing with him on many sentiments, the host noted that the two do, indeed, share some ideas “about freedom and the constitution.” While Beck believes that Paul has fought hard to uphold these values, disagreement abounds.
Despite ideological inconsistencies, though, Beck said that there is no reason that the two can’t respect one another. Holding this ideal in place, he continued to respectfully rail against the politician’s Twitter statement.
“I understand so unbelievably clearly that you don’t like the foreign wars our nation has been involved in…some of us are at a different level of understanding,” Beck said, speaking directly to Paul. “We’re not all Dr. Paul, now, but Chris Kyle and those like him are not the policy makers, doctor, as Americans we don’t go over to the graves of even the German soldiers from WWII and dance on them — because it’s what sets us apart — a fundamental respect for life.”
The host said that Kyle gave his all as a volunteer in a nation that never required him to sacrifice so much of himself. The former SEAL, Beck said, was special — an individual who put his life where his beliefs reside. In this respect, Beck highlighted that the congressman and Kyle have some common ground.
“Dr. Paul, so many Americans admire you because you are willing to put yourself out there in Washington for a cause in which you believe,” he noted. “Chris Kyle was no different…he was willing to put [himself] out there for a cause that he believed [in].”

Rather than coming from the lips (or keyboard, in this case) of a seasoned elder statesman, Beck said that Paul’s tweet sounded like something that would come from radical groups like Code Pink or Westboro Baptist Church, calling the social media statement “beneath” the former representative. The host said that one of the main problems that abounds in today’s society is a failure for individuals to treat one another decently and he even wondered if Paul regrets his “serious, serious error in judgement.”
Acknowledging that some would potentially point the finger at him as someone who has fallen prey to uttering unfavorable statements in the past, Beck admitted that “we’ve all said things that we shouldn’t have said,” but that people should learn and grow from these experiences. And while he stands fervently against Paul’s statements, the host affirmed that he is a big believer in the First Amendment.
“I find Ron Paul’s speech ugly and offensive, but I defend his right to say it and I would not violate it or ask anyone else to violate it by having him silent,” Beck proclaimed “More speech — not less speech — but it requires all of us in responsible ways to respond because that is the right that so many like Chris Kyle fought for.”
The host also noted that for those wondering why he has never — and could never — support Paul, this example provides both explanation and corroboration.
“This should finally answer your question,” Beck said.

Posted on February 5, 2013 at 2:37pmWithout doubt my comment will be scrolled past, but that is okay I suppose. What Ron Paul stated, as has been said, what a direct quote from the Bible. So are you equally angry with the Bible? Also, with clear understanding I now have of Revelations 3:15-16. It amazes me how those who proclaim to be Christians, yet react with the same venom as the Pharisees and Chief Scribes, when truth is spoken to them. Ron Paul has been consistent in his personal spiritual belief. I recall his speech on the floor of the House, and the definition of Just War. In that I remember him stating, “perhaps I have been reading from a different Bible.”
So in ending, it appears many, especially Beck, wish to pick and choose from the Word of God. Pick and choose the words spoken by Jesus Christ.

Posted on February 5, 2013 at 2:34pmOne thing maybe someone can explain to me, and before I ask keep in mind that I am a veteran who is transitioning from straight ticket Republican to Libertarian.
We fear the government, it’s over-reach into our lives, it’s ever expanding nature, and it’s apparent assaults on our liberties. But at the same time we glorify the military and police, which are the enforcing arm of the government we fear. It is beyond politically correct to criticize either. I understand our need for protection as a country, and I understand that the men and women of the military did not ask to go to war but served accordingly at the request of their leaders. There is a problem with the military and police that cannot be discussed due to the sensitivity of the subject. The problem will only get worse with time. The military of today is not the military of our grandparents or even our parents generations, but we are not allowed to speak of it. There is also problems within our police forces, that again we are not allowed to speak of.

Posted on February 5, 2013 at 2:22pmGlenn, I too am a new follower of the libertarian movement, and wrestle with these issues. I do not however judge based on a few mistakes. I like to use much less emotion than you do, and look at the overall issue. Weather you agree or disagree with Mr. Paul’s tweet regarding this tragedy, does not mean that you throw the baby out with the bath water. I have not seen you so passionate about an issue for some time. I sense a hostility for Mr. Paul that goes beyond this incident. While you preach being civil towards one another, you push in your own way against Ron Paul. What you have not realized while your doing this is that many of his “followers” you call them, are also following you. You have dragged us through the mud over the years, but you spoke enough truth to allow us to forgive and move on for the greater good of defeating the enemy within our government. If you truly believe what you just so passionately preached, then remember that. Of course those that step out of line should be remanded, but they should not be put on a cross and burned. You Mr. Beck have just lite many fires.

Posted on February 5, 2013 at 2:35pmI get closer each time Beck talks, to just cancelling my subscription and turning him off.
He talks a good game, until he turns everything he just said right on its head by supporting these stupid wars and an offensive military. He’s sold out to the military contractors, in my opinion, and is not thinking and going back to first principles for an understanding of the law and our system.

Posted on February 5, 2013 at 2:46pmI like Paul, but, to state the sword parable was not defendable. Kyle was defending his countrymen, his people from an enemy who had sworn to kill us. We have no control over our government. We do our best. The tweet was a misapplication of the parable anyway. Jesus taught evil must be destroyed. Stick around, you will see the Wrath Of God in his time, not ours. I am sure Paul is tired and distressed by what he sees. Give him a break, he is a good man.

Posted on February 5, 2013 at 2:12pmDidn’t see the vid, but one thing did leap out at me in Paul’s follow up “explanations”and his apologists’ comment posts—and this is vis a vis something Beck is on record as saying a while back.
In one statement Paul alludes to “A policy of non-violence, as Christ preached” in the same breath with “Unconstitutional and unnecessary wars”. !…!?!…..???????!!!!!!!!!
UP TILL NOW, I got the impression Paul was agin the War on Constitutional “Not Declared” grounds with a good dose of Isolationist “no foreign entanglements, no adventurism, interventionism, ‘nation building’” supposedly rooted in The Founders. So also his partisans, remembering, of course, their Problems with “Israel” and “The Jews” and “Neocons” which is code for all of the above.
But THIS is letting the cat out of the bag in a BIG way.
Paul appears to NOW be basing his Opposition to Our War for Survival Against the Islamicist Hegemony ON PACIFIST Grounds!
DANG! Is he SERIOUS? Does he regard ALL Wars, even when ATTACKED as WRONG? Are we to respond to Aggression, Attack, INVASION, with Gandhi/Jesus “non-violence” PACIFISM? “Turning the other cheek”, “do not resist the evil doer”, “he who would take your coat, give him your shirt?”
C.S. Lewis points out that is the Quickest Way to make sure there are NO Pacifist Nations, cause the Totalitarian JihadiNAZIS will have gobbled em UP!

Posted on February 5, 2013 at 2:28pmA case CAN, and HAS been from the Earliest Church, for Pacifism, but what that MEANS is universal rejection of the use of force EVER by ANYBODY. Yes, EVEN POLICE! The Thoughtful Student is invited to picture THAT Society.
Though the REALLY Thoughtful Student is referred to L. Neil Smith’s Libertarian SciFi Utopia “The North American Confederation where the Foundational Ethic is “It is wrong to INITIATE force against someone.” Blowing their head off in RESPONSE to THEIR attempt to use force against YOU or your neighbor is ENCOURAGED!
HOWEVER, the Observant Student has already noted that the case AGAINST STATE Pacifism is also made from the Earliest Church, is present in the Biblical Manuscripts (see Romans 13), and was codified by Augustine’s “Just War” in Late 4th Early 5th Century.
I would really like to see Ron and the Paul Potters come CLEAN on this. What is the ROOT of their Opposition to “The War”? Jesus/Gandhi Pacifism, Constitutionalism, Isolationism, Anti-Semitism, All round jerkasz prickness?
And I’d like to see Glenn defend his REJECTION of Pacifism as FOREIGN policy (if indeed he does reject it) and his rebuke of Paul, in light of his CALL for Gandhi/Jesus Pacifism in DOMESTIC Political Struggle.
A RAGING Cognitive Dissonance to me, but he can try.

Posted on February 5, 2013 at 2:38pmTo answer your question:
No, Paul is NOT against war when necessary.
But it had DAMNED WELL be NECESSARY, and the government ought to tell the truth about it, and the Constitutional procedures ought to be followed.
There is a “Christian Just War Theory” that Paul follows.
Look it up. It’s enlightened, and practical.
What is IMPRACTICAL, is what we’ve been doing. It’s insane, and it’s time to change.

Posted on February 5, 2013 at 2:42pmDo you even see that your hate flows into what you type? Why the hate? Ron Paul never claimed to be a pacifist, he severed his country. He is against wars without merit, it is simple. You provokingly attack the U.S. you turn to glass. However, if we over throw a dictator replacing him with our own dictator who in turn kills 1,000′s under the protection of us, then no, we are not being attacked unprovoked. All is fair in love and war, unless it happens to us? Stick your nose in someone else’s business and you will get it cut off. But for you to cry that it was cut off makes no sense. It’s called blow back. Am I happy when blow back occurs? NO!! But I do believe that it takes many innocent lives on both sides, and I for one do not want to loose men and women on my side so that the government can play ‘the game’.

He cons the old and young fools out of their money through fear and his own brand of societal utopian ideas built on a fantasy world that never really existed in this country. He has gone from an alcoholic cocaine sniffing junkie into one of the greatest con men of our day. I suggest Mr. Beck go back and re-read our constitution and the words of our founding fathers. Beck made his fortune stealing from Alex Jones and now tries to discredit him. Beck has no idea what freedom is. His rubes will continue to make him rich and when the going gets tough lets see how long it takes for Mr. Beck to run to Switzerland with his millions stuffed into his magic Mormon underwear, laughing all the way. Mr. Beck sold out. He found his audience, just like Maher and Letterman. And like them he plays them like a fiddle.
