How Did Jay Carney Respond to Reporters’ Questions About Drone Strikes on American Citizens?

Jay Carney Responds to Reporters Questions About Drone Strikes on American Citizens

White House press secretary Jay Carney pauses as he speaks during his daily news briefing at the White House in Washington, Friday, Feb. 1, 2013. Credit: AP

WASHINGTON (TheBlaze/AP) — The White House is declining to explain its criteria for directing drone attacks against American citizens working abroad with terrorists.

A newly disclosed Justice Department memo says the administration doesn’t need evidence of a pending attack. The document says only that the target must be involved in ongoing plotting against the United States.

White House spokesman Jay Carney wouldn’t discuss the memo in detail, despite being hounded by reporters on Tuesday. He said President Barack Obama takes seriously his responsibility to protect the United States and its citizens. Carney said the strikes are “legal, ethical and wise,” and added that they were constitutional and used to save lives.

“You’re taking away a citizen’s due process,” CBS’ Bill Plante said Tuesday. “Doesn’t it deserve a broader debate at a broader court hearing?”

“The administration has … reviewed these issues,” Carney began.

“Shouldn’t they be considered beyond the executive branch?” Plante interjected.

“Internally, they have been reviewed with great care,” Carney replied.

Another tough question came from NPR’s Ari Shapiro who asked: “Why does the government believe it’s legal to kill Americans abroad, but not inside the US?…There’s no Constitutional distinction — it’s just that capture is not feasible [inside the US]? If imminence is one of the major tests, a plot in the United States would be more imminent than something abroad?”

Carney did not provide a straight answer.

Controversy over U.S. drone policy mushroomed after a September 2011 drone strike in Yemen killed two American citizens.

Watch Carney’s explanation below:

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Gotta love the national security state, right neoconservatives? I mean under Bush we had the “patriot act”, that little bill that voided the 4th amendment. Bush gave the DHS. But you dopes (neoconservatives) said nothing. Now we have this banker shill Obama and he thinks its ok to KILL AmeriKans with drones. It starts overseas. It starts with “we gotta protect this country” it end with this…

It doesn’t matter what Obama does. He has the support of the mainstream media, Hollywood, most newsprint, magazines, whatever – you name it!
He’s calling the shots now. I didn’t choose this A-hole as my comander but stupid America did. So they must lie in the steaming pile of dung they voted for. But there is no point in complaining about anything he does. He has free reign to destroy america.

If in 4 years we still have a country I will strap on my armory, man my guns (figuratively speaking) and continue the fight. But for now our great country is now in the hands of liberals who do not like America or anything she stands for. And our “prez” is at the top of that list.

The threat of drone strikes on Americans is the mile that will allow them to take the inch they want. Just like on the list of proposed banned guns and the limits on magazine sizes, they throw in gun registration as a lower goal when gun registration is their goal.
My guess would be that they will say they need the drones because they can’t rely on the local police to secure the “terrorist”. They will say that the CIA, FBI, or DHS don’t have the desired response time. They will then propose a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded as our military. They will say that this will be a force that will be the first responders against our enemies. (They won’t say “terrorist” this time). People will hear that the drones will not fly over the US and go back to sleep. Later, the news outlets will declare that the textile industries are back to work making the uniforms of all the brave paid volunteers that have signed up to help keep America safe. We will hear of all the stories of people being saved from poverty by signing up to do nothing more than look out their front window, while thousands of others are quietly being trained to …………..?
They are proposing things that are clearly unconstitutional in the hopes that we will compromise and settle for a little less tyranny than what they propose.

IN THE THIRD REICH EVERYTHING HITLER DID TO JEWS AND OTHERS WAS ALL LEGAL

The German Nuremberg Court the equivalent of the US Supreme Court ruled everything Hitler was doing was legal. Reich’s Sub Furer Himmler of the German SS the equivalent to the US Attorney General ruled on what the SS could legally do. The treatment of social prisoners and POWs was determined by Himmler. How did America ever get to the point were it is beginning to look and act like Nazi Germany? Evil men do the same that all Evil men do everywhere. Even local and state police forces across the nation receive their legal advice from the US Justice Department or should that be call the US Ministry of Justice.

I’ll probably be in the minority here, but if nobody

Problem is manyfold but primarily its the vagueness of the language.. Don’t let your zeal in prosecuting Islamic extremist cloud your judgment.. Our Founders did not play when it came to Liberty. They would have never written something so vague knowing that it would eventually be abused because our Founding fathers understood the heart of man and man’s history..

bottom line is that if we are at War what difference does it make who is targeted?

IMO this is nothing but a ruse in order to open the gates for killing tea party patriots and christians.. Never gamble with your Liberty. Revolutions don’t come often and they are very rarely ever sucessful.

We’ve been provided much on a silver platter… Let’s not gamble with it but guard it with our lives.

This justification is so absurd that I’d recommend anyone that had a hand in drafting immediately be put before a tribunal and executed for Treason against the USA Constitution. Immediately!

This is not about the War on terror at all.

We DID say something, but the Representatives let it happen anyway. We were smart enough to know that bad things in the future will come from these things. Bush didn’t waste a crisis to take our freedoms, and Obummer learned well from it.
I do have a question though, Carney said that this was, “legal, ethical and wise,”. Really, I never saw anything against waterboarding foreign terrorist in our Constution, but the Dems had a HUGE problem with it, but I have seen in the Constution about due process, but he says that is now legal with terrorist ties, I guess the last question that I have is, “What does the Obummer administration define as Terrorist ties????????

The US is supposedly the worlds spenders, we buy stuff from everyone else. I used to think they needed our purchasing power. They don’t need money, just power. It’s all in revelations. It’s too late to wake up the usa. We need to wake up christians…and prepare for the worst. I suppose this veteran may have simply snapped, but it would be so easy for these evil bas turds to off Kyle with whatever manipulation at their fingertips. Obama is but a pawn in the great scheme of things, we are up against a great evil. Regardless of who is president, freedom is in trouble and most people don’t want to be bothered with it. They’re too busy worrying about how to feed their kids and pay their bills. When it hits the fan, the 3/4 of the population who could not be bothered will RUN to those who created the problems for solutions. If the solution is to put a bunch of people into camps or just kill them, they’ll go along with it as they have in the past. It has nothing to do with political parties either, I would not be surprised if the strong figure to grab control is a republican, the outcome is the same. How do you think the USSR “collapsed” and why is Putin now the president? That my friend is how you overthrow a government without firing a single bullet

“You’re taking away a citizen’s due process,” CBS’ Bill Plante said Tuesday..

    Wha
    wha
    wha
    WHAT?

Someone from the MSM asked a REAL question?

    Oh… this will not do…
This will not do at all…

“Hey Biden… pass your ole POTUS that kill list, will ya?… ya, ya, … it’s next to your Schnapps bottle.. Be a dear, if you could…Thank you, Joe. ..can always count on you! Here’s 10 bucks… go buy yourself a new brown shirt….”

      Hi East,

….and on Martin Bashir’s 4pm LSDNC show it started with his guests, both of them, questioning how the White House and the DOJ could kill Americans without any due process.

      Yep, I saw it myself.

      BARBER…

The funny thing about G.I. Joe Biden’s “Your-a-peeing” adventure is that i’ve heard nothing about it.
But Romney’s gaffes in Europe were Ho-Ho-Ho Horrible headline News items that needed to be shredded nightly during the NBC-hosted Olympics….
I’m sure it’s just because other, more important, news is occurring right now?
      No other news?
      Weird.

Barry does have a kill list and drones over U.S skies,he also has warrantless wiretapping,NDAA and DHS goons to pick you up without a warrant. He will be killing US citizens on US soil of that I have no doubt.

All this is aided and abetted by the GOP. Not a peep out of congress or the senate except for Rand Paul. McCain and the other traitors handed Obama more power through NDAA and all the other idiotic bills stripping us of supposedly guaranteed rights. Where are all the right wing nut jobs the MSM keeps telling us about? Why haven’t they put an end to this madness?
The sheep will stay asleep. The American people let the government confiscate their gold, it seems they will let them take everything else as well.

“Upp…upp…upp…upp” (pee running down his leg). I am really surprised that Carney hasn’t had a stroke or heart attack yet. I gotta give the little fella credit for being able to be Oby’s punching bag over the past years. For a human being to stand there willing to take the heat and abuse like that, Carney has GOT to be getting “cash funded” under the table with an incredible amount of money. But does he even have one clue that he’s going to be the first that Oby throws under the Bus if / when the “agenda” starts to go sour? When that happens, Lil’ Carney won’t even be able to masturbate because his own hands will turn on him.

We now have more than ample proof of Obama needing to be removed from office via impeachment; he has committed crime after crime, from murder to high treason and needs to be called to account in the courts of law.

Jay Carney: Well, uh, listen guys, don’t screw this program up, if we do a good job, and do what the Boss says, and Barrack, sometimes he lets us go in and push the button to blow up the bad guys. If you guys start messing this up, there is no upside to this job. And Barrack uses the Drones to releive stress that the Boss. er. Moochelle gives him, and this is the only way he can work it out. You know, just blowing up people driving around, drinking coffee, or reading the paper. And sometimes he actually hits one of the bad guys. So, please stop, you really don’t want to see a stressed out Barrack, and we are all very afraid ot that man he married, Moochelle.

Press: So you are saying the President actually randomly shoots people with drones? Do you mean overseas or hear in the US?

Jay Carney: Uh, yah, overseas is what I meant. Yah, I definetly meant overseas, he would never fly it around, say, Chicago or anyplace like that and randomly shoot people, then blame guns and gangs.

Press: Jay, is the President shooting American Citizens?

Jay Carney: Listen, it’s legal, ethical, and dog gonnit, people like him. Al Franken told me so.

NPR should be the one asking the tough questions. Afterall, they’re funded by the taxpayers. The media as a whole should be government watchdogs and not government lapdogs for the Obama Regime.
