Popular World Cup Champion Lindsey Vonn Airlifted to Hospital After Skiing Accident — Here Are the Pics and Video
SCHLADMING, Austria (TheBlaze/AP) — A dangerous accident during a winter sports event has sent another athlete to the hospital within the last two weeks. Lindsey Vonn crashed during the super-G (a super giant slalom) Tuesday and was taken to a hospital by helicopter after apparently hurting her right knee at the world championships.
The four-time overall World Cup champion lost balance on her right leg while landing after a jump. Her ski came off immediately, and Vonn slid off course and hit a gate before coming to a halt.
Watch the terrifying accident occur in this footage:
She received treatment on the slope for 12 minutes before going to the hospital. Her U.S. team had no immediate information on her condition.
Snowmobiler Caleb Moore was sent to the hospital a couple weeks ago after an accident at the Winter X games and underwent surgery for a heart contusion. Moore died from his injuries a few days after the surgery.
Vonn’s crash came almost exactly one year before the start of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Vonn returned to the circuit last month after an almost monthlong break from racing to fully recover from an intestinal illness that put her in a hospital for two days in November.
Vonn trailed race winner Tina Maze of Slovenia by 0.12 seconds shortly before the crash.
The race, which was postponed for 3 1/2 hours because of fog, resumed after another 15-minute delay. Several racers struggled with the conditions.
“It’s not a very difficult course, but in some parts you couldn’t see anything,” Fabienne Suter of Switzerland said.

Posted on February 5, 2013 at 6:03pmI am really tired of this chick – she needs to start paying the rescue services for all the times she makes them haul her ass off the slopes.

Posted on February 6, 2013 at 10:00amYou don’t know anything about skiing. Her right leg ski is unweighted, so of course the knee is going to move it. What she is doing is using her uphill ski to tighten up her line through the gate, it saves time and keeps her line correct. The Mahre brothers (Phil and Steve) are noted for inventing the “White Pass” turn, which is us now a common technique for course correction and quicker times on the course.

Posted on February 5, 2013 at 11:52amA little help, please – since this morning, all I see is a vid beginning with wild dogs attacking an SUV, regardless of what the topic of the vid is SUPPOSED to be on any Blaze news item. Is anyone else having the same problem?

Posted on February 5, 2013 at 11:47amThis is obviously not a sport but a suicide run – and too dangerous for people of the United States to be doing. I as the Nanny Country here by ban all Super G racing, Skis more than 10″ in length, quick detatch boots, and require complete Federal background checks on every person attempting to purchase Ski equipment including mittens and long underwear. All skiers that are citizens of the United Nanny States will be required to attend a minimum of 300 hours of training, and will only be allowed to compete in World Comp. and Olympics during which time the “Bunny Hill” is implemented as a reasonable safe course.
Sound stupid? There’s going to be some liberal group that will “get their name in the paper” by trying to get Downhill Skiing and the Olympics (in general) banned.
Let the picket signs begin!
