SEA GIRT, N.J. (TheBlaze/AP) — Gov. Chris Christie lashed out Wednesday at a former White House doctor who said she worries about him dying in office because he is so heavy, telling her to “shut up.”

Dr. Connie Mariano, who served as White House physician from 1992 to 2001, told CNN she’d like to see Christie run for president in 2016 but he needs to lose weight. She said she worries he could have a heart attack or stroke.

“I’m worried about this man dying in office,” the doctor, who has a practice in Scottsdale, Ariz., told the network.

During a visit Wednesday to a shore town devastated by Superstorm Sandy, Christie was asked about the doctor’s comments.

Unless Mariano gives him a physical exam and learns his family history, “she should shut up,” the Republican governor said.

Christie said his children heard the doctor’s comments and his preteen son asked him if he was going to die.

“This is just another hack who wants five minutes on TV,” Christie said. “My children saw that last night…This is irresponsible stuff.”

He has never revealed his weight, but he has repeatedly said keeping it in check has been a longtime struggle.

Christie joked about his size during an appearance Monday on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” pulling out a doughnut and saying his girth is “fair game” for comedians.

The next day, he spoke frankly about his efforts to lose weight and described himself as “remarkably healthy,” but he also acknowledged his doctor “continues to warn me that my luck is going to run out relatively soon.”

Christie, often mentioned as a possible presidential candidate, has never released his medical records. He had one health scare during his first term, an asthma attack in the summer of 2011 that sent him to a hospital but did not require him to be admitted. He blamed it on the heat, not his weight.

    remarkably healthy for a 400 lb mouth with high blood pressure.. as much as he gets all fired up he is gonna keel over one day during one of his rants.

      He was 400 lbs when he took office. He has to be near 500 lbs by now. When he was first elected his weight was funny. He is so massive now, it has become sad.

    You don’t need to be a genius to think “Oh, hey may keel over and die while in office serving the country, or shall I say, his appetite.” He is the one that is totally irresponsible. He needs to shut up and stop eating, get out more. I’m so nervous that the idiots that chose McCain and Romney will grab this guy in 2016.

      Romney was our best candidate. The others would have lost by much more as they were too extreme for most Americans. We had conservatives who sat home & didn’t even voted because I guess they preferred the re-election of Obama over a moderate conservative. What stupidity.

    the funniest thing i had happen,going for a physical for a job,the female doctor who wore nickel a gallon cologne and weighed over 300 lbs told me to go on a diet?(im 200 lbs)after telling the cow look in a mirror,and her scales telling her one has to get off?? i told the boss who was a friend he should dump the fat obnoxious broad,and i cant work for him??

      NOSLAVE, LOL, that description reminds me of a small number of the civilian physicians and some nursing staff while I was in the Army. And, if I had a troop weigh in a couple of pounds over I’d have to march or drive him over see these characters to get a check up and lecture. Man, can one ever learn to stifle a laugh in such occasions.

      I had an agent in my detachment who weighed 15 pounds over the maximum based on the Army weight and height scale. I had to go through a similar process and counsel him to lose weight. The only problem was this troop had 8% body fat, ran 3 miles a day and lifted weights. He was solid muscle. It finally took a formal profile DF from a light bird in the MC to get him off the list.

      I am sure there are many people out there who have sound advice for you, which you may find hard to follow…for whatever reason. We all have some habit, or life-style choice that puts us at risk. And deep down inside, I think we all recognize that; but we don’t necessarily change.

      I smoke cigarettes and drink. Do I know that is a health risk? Heck yes, I know it is a health risk. Have I tried quiting cigarettes? Many times. Will I try again in the future; likely. Will I be successful, history has shown probably not.

      But here’s the deal….it is my responsibility..I know the risks. In fact, I may even being doing the public a service. I will likely die much younger, and as a result, not be a burden to the nation. No one has a right to tell me what I can do with my body. If I choose to smoke and drink and eat fried foods, that is my business. Its my body.

      By the way, isn’t that argument for the Pro-Abortionists? It’s my body?

    I absolutely love his lashing out at the press and his entertaining exchanges! But New Jersey needs his lard butt. We don’t need him in the White House. We have enough Rinos in DC already. Besides, he would need a new Airforce One- like maybe a C-130??

      Interesting. I imagine that many conservatives thought the same thing with respect to Romney. I mean, if I take your statement and substitute Romney for Christie, that would pretty much sum up why conservatives as a whole could not get Obama out, because many would rather stay at home or vote for Obama as opposed to Romney. Exactly how has that improved our position?

      I would rather have a Romney, Christie…..or even a Dennis Miller in office over Herr Leader Obama.

      Hopefully, there will be better choices develop. I understand your point. With respect to this story, I was focusing on the message, meaning, there are many people who are far removed from you who want to tell you what to do, and how to live. It was the message, not the messenger.

      With Obama-worshippers, they focus on the Messenger (Obama), and not the Message (Socialism, Stripping of Rights, Oppression).

    If Chris Christie is going to loose weight he’s going to have to cut his normal lunch order back to only 3 large pizza pies, 1 calzone, 2 dozen zeppoles, 1 tray of lasagna, and one 2 liter coke….

    I still love Christies responses.. and his matter o fact way! But his Hurrican Sandy whining just turned me off.. I would not want him as President! I would really like to know if the victims of Sandy ever get any help from the billions the taxpayer now has to pay. Taxpayers whose backs are beyond feeling the weight of this administration!

    I love it. Just goes to show you how people, from far reaches, feel the need to tell people what to do and how to live. Sure, Chris is large….sure, we all understand there are health risks..you don’t think Chris knows that?

    Incidently, death can strike out of no where for anyone. Ever take notice of stories of high school athletes dropping dead? It is almost like there is this faction that thinks we are entitled to immortality, and therefore, if they tell us how to live, we will “live forever”. We’ll never conquer death, and some of us will die at younger ages than others.

    Utopia is a myth.
