Family Research Council Shooter: I Got the Idea From Lib Group’s ‘Hate Map’

Local and federal investigators work to gather evidence after a security guard was shot in the arm at the headquarters of the Family Research Council Aug. 15, 2012 in Washington, D.C. (Getty Images)
The Family Research Council shooter, Floyd Lee Corkins II, on Wednesday pleaded guilty to charges that include assault with intent to kill and committing an act of terrorism.
Shockingly enough, Corkins told FBI agents that he chose FRC as a target based on the liberal Southern Poverty Law Center’s “hate map.”
In case you were unaware, the Southern Poverty Law Center has designated FRC a “hate group” because of the conservative organization’s position on gay marriage:
“Floyd Lee Corkins II pleaded guilty to three charges including a charge of committing an act of terrorism related to the August 15, 2012 injuring of FRC’s guard,” the Washington Examiner’s Paul Bedard notes.
“He told the FBI that he wanted to kill anti-gay targets and went to the law center’s website for ideas [emphasis added],” the report adds.
Corkins also told FBI agents that it was his intention to “kill as many as possible and smear the Chick-Fil-A sandwiches in victims’ faces, and kill the guard.”
At about 10:45 a.m. ET on the morning of the the shooting, Corkins entered the FRC lobby but was confronted by a security guard who asked him where he was going, the Washington Post reported. Corkins then took out a gun and opened fire on the guard before being wrestled to the ground and disarmed. He was later taken into FBI custody.
The incident occurred shortly after Chik-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy said in an interview that he supports traditional marriage, which explains the chicken sandwich-themed attack.
FRC president Tony Perkins has called on the Southern Poverty Law Center to take down its “hate map.”
“The day after Floyd Corkins came into the FRC headquarter and opened fire wounding one of our team members, I stated that while Corkins was responsible for the shooting, he had been given a license to perpetrate this act of violence by groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center which has systematically and recklessly labeled every organization with which they disagree as a ‘hate group,’” he said.
“Once again, I call on the SPLC to put an immediate stop to its practice of labeling organizations that oppose their promotion of homosexuality,” said Perkins, adding, “Whether the SPLC continues to demonize those who hold to biblical morality or not, the Family Research Council will remain unequivocally committed to our mission of advancing faith, family and freedom.”
As of this writing, the SPLC’s “hate map” still includes FRC.
Final Thought: Let’s take a trip in the WayBack Machine, shall we?
Shortly after a Tucson, Ariz., shooting spree that killed six people and wounded 13 others, including former Congresswoman Gabirelle Giffords, left-leaning journalists and bloggers raced each other to be the first to pin the blame on conservatives.
“Arizona massacre: Should Sarah Palin share the blame?” read one headline.
Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, blamed Palin as well as Sharron Angle for the shooting: “I think [their] statements are totally irresponsible and they’re not without consequences.”
Elsewhere, the Washington Post’s Dana Milbank blamed Palin and Glenn Beck for the shooting.
“Both are finally being held to account for recklessly playing with violent images in a way that is bound to incite the unstable,” said Milbank during an appearance on CNN’s “Reliable Sources.”
The New York Times’ Paul Krugman published a blog post blaming conservatives for the tragedy within hours of the incident:
Just yesterday, Ezra Klein remarked that opposition to health reform was getting scary. Actually, it’s been scary for quite a while, in a way that already reminded many of us of the climate that preceded the Oklahoma City bombing.
You know that Republicans will yell about the evils of partisanship whenever anyone tries to make a connection between the rhetoric of Beck, Limbaugh, etc. and the violence I fear we’re going to see in the months and years ahead. But violent acts are what happen when you create a climate of hate. And it’s long past time for the GOP’s leaders to take a stand against the hate-mongers.
Here’s the best part: “We don’t have proof yet that this was political, but the odds are that it was.”
Of course, as we now know, Loughner wasn’t motivated by conservatives — he was motivated by the voices inside his head. Prior to the Tuscon shooting, he didn’t watch TV, he burned American flags, he “disliked” the news, he pored over “The Communist Manifesto” and “Mein Kampf,” and he didn’t listen to talk radio. Furthermore, it has been revealed that he is a registered independent.
“He didn’t take sides. He wasn’t on the left. He wasn’t on the right,” said Loughner’s high school friend Zach Osle.
What are the chances Krugman, Milbank, and everyone else who has falsely accused conservatives of inciting violence will take on the SPLC for its apparently inspirational “hate map”?
Anyone?

Well when you insist on continuously publish “research” that EVERY credible scientific expert and authority has thoroughly rejected and asked you to stop spreading propaganda to support your preconceived prejudices, you are GOING to get labelled a “hate group.”
“In case you were unaware, the Southern Poverty Law Center has designated FRC a “hate group” because of the conservative organization’s position on gay marriage”
Well no, that’s not the sole criterion by which they made it onto that map–if that WERE true, then the overwhelming majority of every Christian church in America would make it onto the SPLC’s hate group classification (hint–they don’t). They were singled out because, despite pleading to the contrary from every credible (that is to say, peer-reviewed and tested according to the rigors of empirical science) scientific authority to stop, they continue to publish outright false long discredited “research” to advance an virulently anti-homosexual bigotry. They are likely solely responsible for 90%+ of all the inane wild oft-repeated beliefs about homosexuals and homosexuality held by individuals ON THIS VERY SITE. It’s one thing to have an erroneous belief that homosexuality is immoral–it’s QUITE another to make up inflammatory **** about homosexuality and THEN try to pass it off as “science.”

Posted on February 6, 2013 at 6:40pmArchead and Keaton,
There’s NO science you can quote we can trust.
Moral Certainty: Choosing to BE is not the same as choosing to DO.
Sometimes DOING what one is BEING is offensive to God & destructive to one’s self, family, & society.
Deviant BEHAVIOR is a CHOICE, & even if it were not a choice to BE queer it is most certainly a choice to DO queer. My church has millions of members & my church EXCOMMUNICATES those who DO queer but tries to counsel those whom the Adversary has tricked into thinking they ARE queer.
Before converting, I found these deviants disgusting & sub-human & if one approached me back then I’d permanently injure IT.
Later, Jesus Christ taught me to love them; but not at the expense of letting the Adversary run the world THROUGH them. The Lord destroyed two large cities for deviancy. He doesn’t tolerate the unrepentant deviant, why should I?
If you think you know better than God – then you’re a useful idiot to the Evil One & sadly, you may be among the first to burn.
If you think there is no God then what is your source of morals? Is it okay for a pervert to have sexual interactions with a willing child, pet, appliance, or adult with very low IQ. If not – be consistent and explain why not. Then answer, are YOU the source of moral clarity for the world, you wannabe god?

How closely do we follow the bible’s words? Are women supposed to be subservient to men?
(1 Corinthians 11:3 *But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is] the man; and the head of Christ [is] God. )
How come we don’t outlaw alcohol or at least look down on alcoholism as much as you do homosexuality?
The bible looks down upon adultery + other types of intercourse, but many Christians seem focused on homosexuality.
Also, the bible allows for the regulated use of slavery. Do we allow this?

Sodomites like to say that 10% of the population is “Gay”. The more acceptable figure is somewhere below 4%.
Now, I would say at least 50% of child rape is against young males. In Muslim countries it is a much higher percentage.
Lets see, can you give me one instance where a heterosexual raped a little boy?
Or here is another, how many Catholic priest have molested chior boys vs. Nuns?
Do the math, it does not take a rocket scientist.

So, their is no sexual component to rape? A heterosexual monster is just as likely to rape a man or boy (I do not know how he would even get it up) as a woman or girl. Likewise, a Sodomite monster is just as likely to grab a little girl. You have abandoned reason in your argument.
Another:
The bible scripture you use does not mean all women are subservient to men. It means wives should be subservient to husbands. And where wives chose not to be subservient to their husband, I would have to think the marraige is more than likely doomed. More because the wife ends up loathing the husband.
Another thing, you know very little of the Bible me thinks. Where you get that Christians have more disdain for one sin verses another goes against the whole concept of Christianity. Commit one sin and you are barred from heaven. There has not been a man on this earth, excepting Christ, who has lived a sinless life. Therefore, we are all doomed and can not approach a holy and righteous God.
Whether you commit the sin of homosexuality, gossip, lust, or commit audulty, they all disqualify you from eternal life with a Holy God.
Homosexuals have the same opportunity as anyone else to accept Gods gift of his Son and recieve redemption and eternal life. This is an equal opportunity concept. I hope, as God does, that not one shall perish, but live eternally with him. I hope every Homosexual is in heaven with me in the end.
That is Christianity.
Now go see what Is

B) You surely have an antiquated view of gender roles in marriage. Women need to be subservient to their husbands for marriage to work, or the women will loathe their husbands. I’m happy not many people believe this and society is progressing.

I strive to think the way God thinks. Simple as that. You chose not to believe there is a God or disregard his word, that is your choice. God created freedom and gave you a volition, so think the way you want. But regardless, my main point still stands, Christians do not regard Homosexuality as worse than most sins as you accuse. God has the sins he hates and Homosexualty is not listed. The only active sin listed is Murder (what the guy attempted at the FRC) and you attempt to justify by committing another sin God hates, “The public lie” regarding Christians.
I am going on 33 years in my marraige to my first and only wife, How about you? How’s yours “progressing”.

Do you believe abortion is the murder of a child? You say you are morally against it … why are you against it? What in your belief system tells you it’s morally wrong?
Now, here comes the hard part — if you truly believe it is the murder of a child, a human being (and I do not yet know if you do but will trust you to answer honestly), how can you still be pro-choice? To believe abortion is the murder of a human being and still be pro-choice is to say it’s OK to murder a human child if you think it ok and that, sir, is where we would completely part company.

Posted on February 6, 2013 at 6:34pmi would support a ban on abortion except in cases of rape and incest.. but thats about impossible. because to prove a woman was raped there would have to be a trial.. which both makes the victim testify and be dragged through that whole process and most rape trials take longer than 3 months. really once the verdict is reached the baby would already be born.. and theres another single parent household. on the other hand if you just allow anyone who claims they were raped to have an abortion then thats not very different from just having abortion legal.

Posted on February 6, 2013 at 5:22pmExactly TRI-OX. This is what the Cloward-Pivens, the Alinskys, the Obamas, the Bill Ayers’, the Karl Marx’s of the world want. Their whole MO is to get people angry at someone else. Constant derision, ridicule, smear, inuendo…over and over. Blame this guy for your problems. Blame that guy, he hates you. He’s white, he’s old, he’s rich, he’s keeping stuff you deserve from you. He’s harming your “rights”. He doesn’t like you.
This is how the left operates and as the left’s voice has become more vocal in the public forum , as it comes out of the shadows, it creates people like Corkins.
The left uses incindiary language repeatedly and vulnerable minds latch onto it.
Look at Occupy for a great example..certainly it whitered into another addition on the dung heap of liberal failure, but look at what it cost. Millions of dollars in costs for cities to clean up the refuse and damage. Stores and churches vandalized. Why? Because the left needs angry people. Look at every leftist revolution in world history…class against class, blame and hatred piled on the desired target. Mobs mobilized. Look at Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dorhn, terrorists decades ago, educators today. They’re not exceptions, liberals have taken over the education system today and in turn they’ve created a culture of liberal media and entertainment to keep the drip, drip, drip of spite and hatred constant and in your face. Look at the lefty trolls on these boards for instan

What part, of the right to bear arms shall not be infringed, of a free People, do you not understand? If you are not in a jail cell, if you are not in a mental hospital, you don’t need a back ground check?

Posted on February 6, 2013 at 5:08pmYou need a background check to find out if you’ve been in a jail cell or mental hospital.. thats the point!
Plus. don’t worry too much because under your ridiculous argument your daughter wont have to worry, thanks to background checks if you run into one of these people they will be unarmed. and finally! Your right to bear arms is not being infringed. as long as there is never complete confiscation you still have a right to bear arms. unless you are viewed as unstable. which i’ll ask you. should mentally unstable people be able to buy guns? are you ok with the Jared Laughtners of the world packing heat?

Man, you really don’t get it do you?
1. Criminals will not follow laws get a hand-gun. Even if they do go through a background check (like you have to do in Georgia), they can easily lie on the form. Background checks do nothing.
2. You say, in response to the “daughter” scenario, “thanks to background checks if you run into one of these people (i.e., rapist) they will be unarmed. and finally”. Again, you are delusional to think that criminals will abide by any law… There are laws on the books now, and only law abiding citizens follow them. Criminals by definition don’t follow the law.
3. Your right to bear arms is not being infringed. as long as there is never complete confiscation you still have a right to bear arms. unless you are viewed as unstable. which i’ll ask you. should mentally unstable people be able to buy guns? are you ok with the Jared Laughtners of the world packing heat? …….. Dude, these things will NEVER be brought to a complete halt. I’d rather have many guns, with large magazines, and LOTS of ammunition to at least give me a chance against garbage like the Laughners and Keatons in the world.
Think things THROUGH!

Posted on February 6, 2013 at 6:17pmKRETINC333, Loughner passed his background check even though he had been treated for mental instability for years. Its not the background check that has gone wrong, its the reporting of the mentally unstable persons. Also, I think the background checks are a good idea, as long as they stop maintaining a national database as the federal government has been doing now. That is a backdoor form of national registration, and can make future confiscation even more possible. Ann Coulter explained that here rather clearly a couple of days ago. That is what has happened in history so many times before. I also take a dim view of being treated like a criminal or potential criminal each time I have purchased a gun. Its like being told by an all woman college that I am a potential rapist because I have the man parts to do so.

Posted on February 6, 2013 at 4:54pmLook people! The “progressives” are using the same tactics to demonize and marginalize us as the Nazis used to justify the oppression and eventual murder of the Jews. When you convince people that they are fighting evil, there is no lengths they won’t stoop to in order to eradicate that evil. We are being singled out for destruction and I don’t mean politically. I wish our so called “representatives” would realize this and fight back accordingly.
In the mean time, we as individuals need to quit spending our money with entities that support our destructiuon. Do your own home work and research the busineses you do business with and stop it right NOW! And for God’s sake, quit giving your money to Hollywood.
The left is conducting warfare in these arenas rather effectively and we are not responding.
By the way, I wonder what would happen if millions of Americans decided not to send their returns into the feds this April? Would it cause a problem? We have to stop feeding this beast!
