‘Out of His Mind’: Hear the Frantic 911 Call Placed by the Sister of Chris Kyle’s Alleged Killer

FORT WORTH, Texas (TheBlaze/AP) — On Tuesday night, TheBlaze reported that police released a 911 recording along with documents that reveal more about the possible state of mind of the Iraq War veteran charged with gunning down a former Navy SEAL sniper and his friend at a Texas shooting range.

Eddie Ray Routh told his sister and brother-in-law that he and the two men “were out shooting target practice and he couldn’t trust them so he killed them before they could kill him,” according to a Lancaster police search warrant affidavit.

Shortly after the shootings, Routh’s sister told a 911 operator that her brother had come to her house and confessed to killing two people and was “psychotic,” according to a recording of the frantic call to Midlothian police.

You can hear the dramatic 9-11 call, below:

Routh, 25, is charged with one count of capital murder and two counts of murder in the deaths of Chris Kyle, author of the best-selling book “American Sniper,” and his friend Chad Littlefield on Saturday. He’s jailed in Erath County on $3 million bail and is on suicide watch.

Laura Blevins told police her brother seemed “out of his mind saying people were sucking his soul and that he could smell the pigs. He said he was going to get their souls before they took his,” according to the affidavit, which was first obtained by WFAA-TV. Routh told his brother-in-law, Gaines Blevins, that everyone was out to get him, according to the affidavit, which says Lancaster police obtained a warrant to search Routh’s home for weapons and other evidence.

In the 911 call, obtained by The Associated Press, Gaines Blevins told the operator that Routh was released from a mental hospital about a week earlier and had been “acting a little weird.” He also told the operator that Routh was recently diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Routh was taken to a mental hospital twice since last fall and told authorities he suffers from PTSD, according to police records.

Routh, a member of the Marines Corps Reserve, threatened to kill his family and himself Sept. 2, according to police records in Lancaster, where Routh lives.

In a 911 call obtained by The Dallas Morning News, Routh’s mom, Jodi Routh, told an operator in September that her son “probably needs to go to the VA to the emergency room and they need to admit him to the mental ward.” Later, she said one of her son’s Marine Corps buddies had taken weapons from the house for safekeeping.

Lancaster police took Routh to Green Oaks Hospital for psychiatric care. Dallas police records show Routh was taken to the same mental hospital in mid-January after a woman called police and said she feared for Routh’s safety.

Green Oaks will not release patient information, citing privacy laws.

On Tuesday, Routh remained in his jail cell instead of meeting with his court-appointed attorney or relatives, Erath County Sheriff Tommy Bryant said in a telephone interview. Routh had demanded a cigarette in exchange for a meeting, but smoking isn’t allowed in the jail, Bryant said.

The sheriff said he didn’t know which relatives came to visit Routh in the jail in Stephenville, about 75 miles southwest of Fort Worth.

Kyle and Littlefield apparently had been helping Routh work through PTSD, said Travis Cox, director of FITCO Cares, the nonprofit that Kyle set up to give in-home fitness equipment to physically and emotionally wounded veterans.

Kyle, 38, left the Navy in 2009 after four tours of duty in Iraq, where he earned a reputation as one of the military’s most lethal snipers. Littlefield, 35, was Kyle’s friend, neighbor and “workout buddy,” and also volunteered his time to work with veterans, Cox said.

Routh joined the Marines in 2006 and rose to the rank of corporal in 2010. His military specialty was small-arms technician, commonly known as an armorer. He had been stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C., and served in Iraq from 2007-08 and in the Haiti disaster relief mission in 2010. He is now in the individual ready reserve.

Don’t be such a DINK. Kyle died trying to HELP this guy. Possible the shooter behaved pretty “normal” up to the moment he snapped. Actually he could be possessed by evil spirit….esp. w/ that crazy rant about his soul. Main point–to insult Kyle’s intelligence or common sense is futile and not how Americans should react. Honor and respect our heroes….you dink.

Routh’s military specialty was small-arms technician (a.k.a.armorer). Every Marine is trained as a rifleman. The Marines might have put support types on patrol.

But I have to wonder if Routh saw action & if he was traumatized. I guess we will find out.

JMadison had a very good post. For me & probably for others the purpose of a hobby is not make money or always to learn something interesting but is stress relief.

Like your comment! Lack of good judgment, inviting the possible enemy into your camp with a loaded gun, occurs in other places in life as well. Mia Farrow suffered that when she adopted a child much older than her other children. A friend of mine welcomed an 18 year old Foreign Exchange Student into her home to complete the last year of high school when her son was only 7 years of age. Her husband fell for the Foreign Exchange Student. The development of wisdom is sometimes a painful experience. While we respect Kyle as a hero, and we feel the greatest sympathy for his family, we all need to see the lesson in the situation.

Stop with the emotional bantering. I am sure he was a great guy. I for one don’t think pointing out faults so soon after a tragedy is very graceful, but that doesn’t change the facts. Pouring fuel on a burning man is not helping him. As sad as it is, the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and the most honest of mistakes can cost you your life.

Anybody consider that maybe Chris didn’t have the information you all have concerning Routh’s psycoticness? Maybe he was under the impression that Routh was another common PTSD guy struggling with the past like countless others before him. You armchair wannabes can go to hades. Chis Kyle= War hero. Random anoymous posters with dumb fake names= losers. You would be dead too in the same situation without the benefit of knowing what was going to happen before hand. You’re not special.

How many gas, oil and coal fires/blow-ups do we hear about now that they have got their dirty work done? There is evidence of this theme throughout the life of the Obama administration.

I remember back in the late 60′s and 70′s when we would find the nut cases and take them to a Mental Health Facility for evaluation. They had the authority to keep them for 72 hours for more evaluation. Then the laws were changed and the institutions were commanded to release most of them. Many stories said that they were just driven to a local town and kicked out of the bus. We were ordered to issue a citation and let them go. Most never bothered to appear in court and judges refused to do anything about it. Many had those spaced out eyes. Sort of like a politicians.

An armor generally maintains and issues weapons. As a Marine there is ALWAYS the possibly you will be given collateral duties, such as convoys for instance, that would expose you to combat. In addition there was a high degree of Indirect Fire in Iraq. This is random motor and rocket fire coming insurgent forces. This type of attack is highly stressful since you cannot predict nor respond with fire of your own. I don’t know if this guy experienced any of these things but people respond differently to stress.

I doubt this guy had PTSD. I also think they need to check out where the guy that shot the Sikhs. He was also stationed around NC. I may be reaching too far but I’m not very trusting anymore and way too many of our Seals have died lately. We all know there are many agendas on the rise too and if our president has no concern when it comes to killing American citizens without a trial because he thinks they deserve to die we all need to worry. They even tried it on the general public in subway routes just to see how quickly something can be spread. Given today’s laws these types of people are seldom filtered out of society. Even marked violent behavior generally only results in a 72hr hold and release. This is a tragedy and a crime but to those speculating some darker conspiracy, why is Chris Kyle’s death so significant? What great political force was he wielding, what ‘knowledge’ did he possess that was so dangerous to those powers that he had to be assassinated? Don’t misunderstand this question… I admired and respected Chris Kyle, his service, patriotism and devotion to others… he had great Faith, loved his family and friends, was an outstanding human being (as was Chad Littlefield) and represented the ‘best’ of human nature lifted by Faith and love BUT (!) that doesn’t make him immune to foul, despicable behavior. Often these very brave men do “rush in where angels fear to tread” and certainly Chris’ warrior personality would indicate such. But to suggest some sort of “Lee Harvey O” conspiracy? The telling comment made by the foul person who shot both Kyle and Littlefield to his own sister… “I cannot trust them so I shot them…” is significantly accurate in pointing out psychosis. Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield died because in their kindness and devotion to “others” they overlooked, perhaps(!) but in retrospect certainly, signs and symptoms in Routh that (at least Kyle) they wouldn’t have in the middle of a battlefield. How can you accept such stupidity in your own brain? If you did even 3 minutes of research you might be able to shake some of the dumb off. Nidal Hassan was not a registered anything because neither Texas, nor Virginia (the state he was from) collect political affiliation on voter registration. So right there, you should probably wonder about the veracity of your data. The James Holmes allegation came from Breitbart and they issued a retraction. The Adam Lanza claim was based on the fact that most CT voters are democrats. There are three women in my house, but I still pee standing up. Regarding the columbine kids – find me one single bit of collaborating evidence. The town he lived in is mostly republican, and the only political evidence gathered suggests the boys admired Timothy Mcveigh. I took time from my day to do some research, so before replying why don’t you do the same.

The post above, by “EGOLACUNA” seems a classic case of propagandist defense purported as indignant debunking. For either poster, I suggest reading my brief article and those linked in it.

      1. At GulagBound we clearly indicated we were introducing the list above, for further research, asking for any refutations.

      2. If the Columbine adolescents were fans of Timothy McVeigh, it tends to prove the question instead of refuting it. McVeigh was an anti-Israel neo-Nazi (fascist/socialist) which is to say his beliefs reflected those much more of an Obama Democrat than a Sarah Palin Republican. (The heart of fascism is state crony capitalism, which is also, essentially the neo-Marxism practiced in China and by Obama.)

      3. Nidal Hassan: I haven’t found his party affiliation if any, yet, but he was very opposed to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. That theme much more closely resembles those of progressives than American conservatives.

      4. Seung-Hui Cho, another fan of McVeigh, was a citizen of South Korea, not able to vote. His communications (haven’t found his extensive suicide note, yet) railed against and blamed the wealthy. Clearly that again, shows an affinity to the opinions of progressives.

      5. I see nothing on James Holmes political ideology, per se, but I am finding information to further examine, that he was involved with DARPA in the work of chemically enhancing military personnel (which has to do with other major elements of the Gulag Bound blog item).

That should make them feel better- as killing iraqis made kyle feel good. Maybe his shooter did just that -pretended Kyle was an iraqi. If that’s not poetic justice-nothing is.

Rose Ellen, sounds like one of those Westwood Baptist types who would think its a tragedy for some psycho to go off on an abortion doctor with 20000 confirmed kills against those mean unborn babies, while the murder of Kyle is deserved.
You are a sick puppy, why don’t you go to hell and hide.

Rose-ellen. Your post just reinforces that there are small people out there. You’re one of them. You don’t matter, but yet warriors like Chris stand ready and will die to save you. But you know as well as I do that 100000 of you aren’t worth 1 of Chris. You’re tiny and vile.

Here’s what I want you to know Rose-Ellen.

There are a company of warriors who have integrity, are selfless and humble. They cherish their wives, their children and our nation. And that company will celebrate Chris on Monday at Cowboy Stadium. We’ll always carry him in our hearts, we’ll laugh and raise a beer. In the dark moments of misery we’ll genuinely smile. It is a sincere pleasure to know these fantastic men, humbling and wonderful.

You will never know that, so I feel sorry for you.

Kyle loved his family? How unusual! Killing men women and iraqi children and then bragging about how good he was at it and your commending him for it and for loving his family and Jesus Christ-now THAT epitomizes small. And neither my life or my freedom has been threatened by any iraqi he murdered. But that narrative is necessary to justify a gull going off to invade and murder iraqis. And I am oppossed to legaized abortion. I think that too is mass murder.Kyle derseved to be on trial as a war criminal-I’m not for vigilante justice whether for a murdering abortionist or a war criminal like kyle. However poetic justice is just that.Ron Paul recognized it and so would any one not brainwashed by the Fox propagandists .And in kyles case -it fits the bill.

A brainwashed gull will lie with every breadth. Kyle was humble?-you say. Going all over the media after writing a book with fox media bragging about all the “kills” he did and how these animals deserved to die-you call that humble? i guess when you have to justify the deaths and wounded of americans that resulted from allowing yourselves to be manipulated to go to an unjust war- when you’ve reached that level of unreality, arrogance becomes humility, gullibility becomes fighting for freedom etc. Even hatred of the enemy becomes loving Jesus Christ.Invert the truth to not have to face the reality that what Kyle did -and the invasion of irac irself -if done by any other nation or person would be recognized as criminal.Self serving narrative of lies is all that makes this war criminals death and that of others palatable-I guess. It beats having to acknowledge you were manipulated by the media/government to go into iraq and that all those deaths and wounded were for nothing.[just like viet nam btw].

Good for you!Oh and btw-even people who oppose unjust wars like iraq and have no problem calling a war criminal like kyle a war criminal-even people like us love our families and Jesus Christ. We too can drink beer and raise a glass to those who resisted the fox /government iraq war machine propaganda.

What you don’t understand is how far off you are. I’m a christian. You just hate. You like hating. You like being angry. It’s what you do. I’ve seen droves of your type over the years.

You can flail about all you like but you’ll always hate yourself. The topic doesn’t matter. You just need your newest thing to complain about and rail against acting all righteous. Good luck with it.

Now you’re going to reply and tell me you don’t hate yourself and who am I to say that or some such, but I’ve seen this movie. People like you are a dime a dozen. I just pity you.

I’m a christian[catholic] too.I love how whenever someone exposes your unjust wars and your war criminals -the real haters- we get called haters. You’re thin skinned -that’s all. You love to glorify militarism and support mass murdering unjust wars and cling to a self serving false narrative to validate YOUR hatred and when called out-then we become haters for daring to vilify your war mongering mass murderers and unjust wars. You’ve been manipulated with hatred of the “enemy”and those who don’t support your black and white narrative where we’re good and they’re bad and it doesn’t matter what we do because well-we KNOW we’re good and we KNOW they’re bad.Anyone who digresses from this perspecitve -how dare they-is a hater. A self serving narrative which I reject and speak out against.Call it anything you want-call me anything you want- i’ll speak out against your self serving false narrative every time.

Just because you might have had a relative wasted by the Marines, when they flushed him from a house where he was torturing men, women & children, is no reason to project & lie about Kyle.

As vituperative as Rose-Ellen is I would have to believe that she support Al Qaeda torturing & murdering Iraqi men women & children.

During the battle of Fallujah when men women & children left the city prior to the Marines entering. That left only Al Qaeda, other insurgents & their torture victims. Kyle sniping the torturers wounds Rose-Ellen to the core. In Rose’s twisted mind Al Qaeda had a right to torture Iraqi civilians just like they have a right to torture Malian civilians.

Anyone doubt that Rose Ellen was rooting for Al Qaeda & hoping that France suffered catastrophic defeat in Mail?

Rose-Ellen is as Catholic as Usama.

It was the americans who killed every man woman and child in falluhaj who had not left.Osama oppossed those insurgent beheadings of people. And though I know of no one who was killed by an american marine-my solidarity is with the iraqis and afghans that these american terrorists killed. And those WE tortured.Kyle was more then happy to kill any iraqi. He loved it so much he took to taking other vets to the gun range and told them they could relieve their ptsd[euphymism for anger that they couldn't kill more muslims then they already had] by pretending they were shooting at iraqis ha, ha. That backfired.Al quada was a natural ally-as they opposed dictators whether soviet or western propped like saddam hussein. And no-they are not fundamentalists. One of osamas wives had a PHd.The malian islamists are fundamentalists and though they may raise an alquada flag-they are not really alquada. Everyone and anyone will for a long time to come-raise an alquada flag-no matter what they believe-just to show their opposition to the status quo.and their defiance. The world and its people do not belong to us and just as we may obhor that flag-they are free to like it. Like the protesters in front of embassies on sept 11 flew black alquada flags. Just to bother us.It’s called freedom of expression. Their response to that video they found offensive. They can offend us every sept 11 -by demonstrating in front of embassies flying that flag.Doesn’t mean they’re alquada. It means they’re free.

Something stinks to high heaven about the slaying of Chris Kyle and there is no news media reporting that can lead this old gal who is the daughter of a WWII combat veteran to believe differently. I know too much. That makes me dangerous. You can parade your bullspit PTSD just got out of the psyche ward all day long and stick it where the sun don’t shine. Two and two don’t add up to four but what they do add up to is yet another stinking pile of government cover up.

The government is counting on their web of lies and deceit to provide a palatable cover story for the assassination of Chris Kyle. Because that is what it is. It’s not about a deranged ex military man named Eddie Ray Routh with PTSD who had just been in a psyche ward. Although that makes a very believable headline most people who understand how the government and the military work aren’t buying the Pablum that is being spoon fed to the public on this one. Because most of us who have been around realize that the government and the press just aren’t that smart. They continue to use the same tired and worn out pattern of killing people.

    This is absolutely tragic.
I have to say, as much as I subscribe to the Ron Paul opinion regarding the federal reserve and the general respect that I have afforded him,, to say that “you live by the sword, you die by the sword” as pertaining to this sad revelation, is not just inappropriate but further demonstrates the great desire of ALL establishment politicians to unconstitutionally disarm this nation.
And the MSM labeled Paul as ‘conservative’?
    Missed their mark on that.

As an example, if 1 person out of 100,000 has a problem, the government opens a facility to handle it and in order to justify their jobs they will recruit another 30,000 to join their program. Bigger is better. It’s the liberal way to do things.

These guys flipping out and committing murders seem to be in their twenties and on anti-psychotic drugs. It is time to reveal exactly what these guys have been amped up on. I know psychosis is enough to make a person do crazy things, but we should look.

I don’t understand the PTSD diagnosis. What was the Trauma for him? I hope more information comes out. The families of Kyle and Littlefield deserve that much. I’m praying for them and flying my flag at half staff all week.
