MSNBC’s Scarborough Skewers Obama’s ‘Chilling’ Drone Program: U.S. Gov’t Is Saying ‘We Can Kill You’

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough on Wednesday weighed in on a recently-leaked memo that purportedly shows how the Obama administration justifies using drone strikes to target U.S. citizens.

“Here you have something truly chilling,” said Scarborough of the recently leaked drone memo. “Here you have the United States government saying, we can kill you, American citizen. You have no constitutional right to a jury by your peers. You have no constitutional right even to probable cause or to due process. You have no right to a lawyer. You have no right to counsel. You have no right to anything.”

“If we suspect you, just suspect you, without evidence, that you were thinking about committing an act against the United States of America, we can kill you,” he adds.

The MSNBC host continued:

There are no checks and there are no balances. We can kill you. We can pick you out of a list and drop a bomb on you, and not only can we kill you, we can then kill your 16-year-old son who is not even affiliated with al Qaeda, and then we can blame it on the father for us having to kill the son.

Scarborough then added that Republicans should go after the drone program as an abuse of executive power.

“Forget Republicans. How about liberals and Democrats? I mean, can you imagine if George W. Bush had proposed this idea?” asked former Bush advisor Mark McKinnon, adding later that he thinks the program is a “good idea.”

“You think it’s okay to kill Americans without probable cause?” Scarborough asked. “You think it’s a good idea?”

“Thinking about the threats against us and the Machiavellian plots, I’m willing to err on the side of giving a little bit of latitudes,” McKinnon replied.

“This kid, this 16-year-old kid goes out to a restaurant and he gets killed because of his father,” Scarborough said, referring to the drone strike that took out Abdulrahman al-Awlaki. “That causes you no concern? Constitutionally?”

“I err on giving the government latitude on this one,” McKinnon repeated.

MSNBC contributor Jon Meacham jumped in to explain that one of the reasons the British lost control of the colonies was because “the rule of law could not simply be in the hands of a king and could not be arbitrarily applied and that’s precisely what this is: it’s in the hands of an American king.”

“An American king who actually gets the list of people who he decides who should be killed and who should not be killed and he goes down that list, and there’s so many things that are chilling here,” Scarborough said, adding that were it Bush president, there would be impeachment hearings right now.

“All of Washington, all of Manhattan, the entire press corps would focus its intention on this unprecedented overreach,” he added.

He continued:

When you kill somebody without probable cause or evidence, that’s right there, and then you make it an American citizen who is protected by the United States Constitution, and suddenly that raises it to an entirely new level. And the U.S. government can decide which American citizens it’s going to kill without probable cause?

“That is frightening. And, of course, the next step is the killing starts taking place on American soil. We’re not far from that,” he concluded.

Anyone who thinks the government HASN’T been killing its own citizens secretly throughout history is deluded. I’m just glad to see that even the normally comatose zombies on the left seem to be waking up to the fact that, shockingly, Obama is just as guilty of ignoring the Constitution when it suits his agenda.

I’m sure next week Scarborough will be praising him again, though.

They won’t because the same filth that orders Obama gives the same orders to the Republican establishment. That’s why we hate them so much.. There’s no difference between the Repub establishment and Obama.

There are a few glaring hypocrisies that come to mind when one considers Obama’s policy of using drones to eliminate terrorists. First and foremost is the Obama Administration’s long-standing policy of downplaying terror… to the point that BHO does not even call murderous attacks terrorism. Case in point: Major Nidal Hasan’s attack on innocents at Ft. Hood has been called “workplace violence” since day one.

Next, Obama and his minions have publicly decried “enhanced interrogation techniques” (read: waterboarding) since long before he took office. Now, however, Obama will not even admit that enhanced interrogation techniques were responsible for leading to the raid on Usama Bin Laden’s hideout and the radical Muslim’s death. But Obama is okay with vaporizing anyone he feels is a threat to the United States. So in Obama’s mind, it is okay to assassinate (a Muslim word) any American who is believed to be actively engaged in terror against the United States, ignoring the Constitutionally mandated entity of due process in the process.

Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld said it best: “Obama is using the drones to kill anyone he wants so he won’t have to subject them to enhanced interrogation techniques. The drones are sort of like Planned Parenthood, except with sensing and targeting devices.”

Most importantly, however, Obama is violating a long-standing policy of the United States that we will not engage in assassinations.

Excuse me but where is due process in war? If an american citizen is fighting against this country, is he or she still and american citizen? I think not, Japanese, and German americans went “home” to fight for their motherlands, maybe not many but they did, did we stop and arrest them and give them due process, nope, killed them on the battlefield. If this were a domestic policy, I would have a completely different opinion, but leave this nation to aide our enemies, terrorist or otherwise, and you are no longer a citizen with constitutional protection, but a traitor who deserves to die.

I understand your point about due process in war, but you are forgetting something… Obama and Holder are the ones who sought to give DUE PROCESS to al Qaeda combatants by giving them due process and trying them in civilian courts in New York City. By your definition (and Obama’s and Holder’s) , American al Qaeda combatants are not deserving of due process, but Arab combatants are. You can’t have it both ways.

So one of Obama’s lies is now the truth, not one terrorist from Gitmo has been tried in US court. This fool of a president has said many things, like he was going to close gitmo, end warrentless wiretaps, lower the oceans, end global warming, save the economy, etc. He has done none of these. So to say that there is a precident for due process for enemy combatants is false. There is only one way to end this war, and that is to kill everyone who seeks to do harm to this nation, until the price of terrorism is too high, only then will the moderates have a chance to change islam, and bring peace. Sad to think, but the war has been waged against the west by islam for over 1000 years, seeing an end by giving terrorists some form of due process, only strengthens the enemy by showing weakness.

I have to admit that I was in no way upset when I first heard that Anwar AL Awlaki had been whacked. My first thought was good riddance, and thought that it was just fine to take out such an enemy. But, I have now come to the conclusion that this is part of that slippery slope that eventually leads to larger things. This is after all a government program and we all know what Ronald Reagan has said about government programs. They never go away even if there ever was a world wide peace. Instead, the scope of such a program just continues to expand, and where can that expansion lead to? Here of course, and just who else will dear leader define as enemies of the state? With Justice John Roberts already in 0bama’s back pocket just what can any sensible person think should a case against this activity is found to be just fine by the SCOTUS? The program will expand exponentially of course.

The communists and the progs have been working on this for 100 years. Glad at last some are seeing who these people really are – what the face behind those masks really looks like. Isn’t nuice, is it?

That such a creature as Obloomers got to be voted in, twice, as king is only the icing on the cake of horror we are trying to choke down, and we are living through a dark time, and are at the edge of the pit of hell – and a possible dark age. And I do mean an age – 100 to maybe even 1000 yrs if we slide into this king zero abyss. (of which he is but the capper after a long run of dictates and societal decay.)

It’s always a roller coaster ride with Joe and MSNBC crew. One week their repeating White House talking points, the next their slamming. The crazy world of dialectical materialism! MSNBC is a sad commie joke.

There is more than one person at MSNBC. there may be more than one group with influence or control of what gets out there. A look at the internal structure and political ( as in office politics) dynamics would be interesting. There may be a lot of groupthink, but occasionally something slips out that doesn’t sound like it came from a state controlled media. Maybe there is a lone conservative out there who had the balls to take a stand, and he made such a strong case that they had to agree this is “news” that can’t be ignored. ( He’s right, if it was Bush, there would be impeachment hearings going on now.)

In this case they seem to have hit it spot on.

I guess the left is OK with King Obama, as long as he doesn’t actually start acting like a despot.

DARMOK, Frankly, I feel that the media will continue to back dear leader even if he does become a despot. I think that is what they are hoping for. Just how many of the lefties here feel that 0bama is not moving fast enough to keep them pleased?

Where were you when the “King” ignored the Constitution and made recess appointments when the Senate was not in recess? Where were you when “Dear Leader” declared “If the congress wont act I will without them”.

I can go on but we can smell your hypocrisy west of the Mississippi.

“Here you have the United States government saying, we can kill you, American citizen.”

homeland security has placed orders for/received over ONE BILLION rounds of 223 ammo.

sounds like the obama army is going to take it to american citizens. i guess that what kings order when the serfdom rises up.

We can always hope that the Iranians will put up the schematics of the drones they caught and American citizens can start getting together to learn to defend against them.

Shredding the constitution and breaking those laws don’t phase these idiots, but I guess when the President starts using drones to kill Americans, that’s the line he can’t cross.

I have no doubt that if Obama and Hillary walked into a Washington DC liquor store with AR-15s and robbed the owner by taking cartons of Marlboro cigarettes at gunpoint, the progressive liberal socialist Democrats would find a way to justify it somehow and say let’s “move forward.”

The left would be upset if Obama did that, because he is back to smoking. That is what they would be upset about, not the robbery.
