Tour This $65K Doomsday Bunker Built by a Utah Survivalist Prepper

The words “survivalist” and “bunker” have been swirling in the media lately after the kidnapping of a school boy by an Alabama man who is supposedly a “doomsday prepper.” As we previously reported, Jimmy Lee Dykes held the 6-year-old for more than 30 hours in the underground structure.

But the vast majority of purported “survivalists” building “doomsday bunkers” to ride out an attack on humanity that could end the world as we know it are peaceful individuals who are nothing like Dykes. Take Peter Larson who recently gave CNN a tour of his $65,000 bunker nestled in Utah’s mountains.

CNN’s Gary Tuchman describes Larson as a family man. He’s a man who has a normal neighborhood home with a mountain view. But a few hour drive away into the mountains is where Tuchman has created a 50-foot long, 10-foot in diameter bunker that resides 20 feet under ground.

Why is Larson preparing for apocalyptic situations? In part, Tuchman reported, because he thinks economic collapse could bring civil disorder but it’s more than that.

“There will be a nuclear holocaust. Someone is going to pull the pin,” Larson said.

In addition to the expected staples — canned food, blankets, firearms, etc., — Larson’s bunker is outfitted with an air-filtration system that pumps air in from the outside. He also keeps cash and gold on hand for when it’s time to start rebuilding society.

“You’ve got enough bullets to start an army here,” Tuchman said.

“Um, yeah,” Larson said.

Larson, a Mormon, explains that according to his faith, he believes in the last days there will be some hard times.

“…we feel like these are the last days,” Larson said.

How will Larson reach the bunker in time in the event of an impending disaster? He tells Tuchman essentially that he believes God will give him a sense of when it’s time to go.

“…I spend a certain amount of time with Heavenly Father reminding him that I need about 24 hours notice,” Larson said.

Tuchman also asks a question many have of survivalist preppers: if the whole world is destroyed, would you really want to live that kind of life?

Larson responded saying, “sure” and noting that he doesn’t think all of man-kind would be destroyed.

Watch CNN’s tour:

As for the cost of Larson’s bunker, compared to some others a $65,000 price tag isn’t too expensive. Check out these luxury bunkers that some buyers have put down $7 million for in Kansas.

There are other uses for bunkers as well. Since Valentine’s Day is on the horizon I thought it fitting to relive a bunker scene from one of the greatest movies of the HBO 1980′s era. Caution! You are about to enter the grin zone (see link below) – ENJOY!

I agree with being prepared. People, this may or may not be the last days. I think that every Christian, since Jesus, have thought they would see the coming of the Lord. He may be here tonight or it could be a million years or more. Don’t go rapturing us out of here before God decides to do it.

We don’t have a million years to get our act together….we are on a timeline and a fulfilling of the gentiles is coming into view. If the world keeps going the way it is, then man will cross over into transhumanism, clones, and only God knows what else. If that happens then what remains will no longer be Gods creation but mans….this is not found in the Bible. Read Pauls description of our condition at the end. We are there my friend. Israel is the time piece and that time is running very shallow indeed. When Jesus declared to the disciples to tell the gospel to all corners of the globe we had to wait until the 20th century to see this finally fulfilled, Israel a nation once again and so forth. Its when you SEE ALL these THINGS together at once Jesus declared then you will know it is at the very door. We are seeing all those things except for the actuall emergence of the one world leader and his government….if we have eyes to see with, then we can see and hear also that the NWO has already been declared, Obama is that front man for the world to gather around. You’ll see this on our life time. The third temple is planned and ready to be built…watch for it.

DJ, the bible doesn’t say anyone laughed at or ridiculed Noah. That’s a Sunday School myth. Another SS myth surrounding Noah is that he went out and warned everyone of the coming flood. Doesn’t say it, never happened. It’s one thing to be prepared. It’s another to live in a hole in the ground. And this guy taking the media to his bunker is totally retarded. If and when SHTF, everyone will know where he is and I’ve never seen anyone survive a standoff when they’re holed up in a house or bunker. It’s best to store up food, supplies, ammo, etc. and keep your mouth shut about it. If I wanted to get in this guy’s bunker, I’d drop a couple grenades and some tear gas down the shaft. He’s done.

What I find funny that most people think that it is all over in a nuclear attack. Please research the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Civil Defense Program. The scientists there did not believe in MAD or Nuclear Winter. Guess what Duck and Cover would save most of the people. That is why it was taught to the military as a basic skill in Basic Training. Being prepared for man made and natural disasters is very smart.

here is are some links the material comes from ORNL Civil Defense Program which was the national program for the whole country.

If your saved, that little hole in the dirt will be left for someone else to occupy. If your left behind, what the heck do you think that little thing is going to do. The post rapture world is a very strange and catastrophic place. No gun, shelter or any amount of food you store will protect you. I’ll be watching from the mezzanine.

I don’t believe this is the type of preparation God instructs in the New Testament. We as Christians are under God’s Grace, not his wrath. We are certainly subject to the wrath of this world. God people get killed or injured all the time. But that’s out own doing as society deteriorates. And at the end of the tribulation, Jesus said we would be coming with him. How can we come with him if we were not taken out? And what groom beats up His bride before the wedding day? No buried tin can and a few weapons will do any good in a last days scenario. I’m clear on that much. And if God told others to build a boat, he didn’t let us in on it.

Where in the scripture does it mention rapture? What if it is not the end, but only a new beginning, just as it was for Noah? Everyone should look back 60 years, and you will see that most everyone was a prepper to a degree. What is wrong with being prepared? He is not taking money out of your pocket to do it with. I agree, the kind of preparation we need most is SPIRITUAL, not physical. Please don’t misunderstand, I certainly do advocate some physical preparation such as a hefty food storage and basic products in the event of natural disasters/war, but most people need spiritual work more than they need physical. I believe we are in the end times, but I’m not building a bunker because I trust in the Lord.

Put a few people in a confined space for a few weeks and see what happens, they will go mad and kill each other. Look at bio sphere projects and who long they lasted until it fell apart. If NYC apartment dwellers are already shelling out $3/4mil for 400 and under sqft apartments, these guys will do just fine.

I’m too old to ‘prep’ (except for an earthquake), but if you’re a young-un, Nevermind (and I think you are), I think it’s something worth taking a look at.

Only lips go ape **** and start killing each other. Normal people get to work and get things done. I only expect panic and hysteria from your type.

If you want to base prepping on God’s word, I suggest you pay attention to the 9 times he tells you to leave Babylon…

Looks a little cluttered. He’s likely to get killed by ObamaCare long before doomsday though, outside of a financial collapse when the Fed quits printing money or the Chinese quit buying our worthless paper.

I guess in some twisted way this nut job redistributed his wealth, that’s about the only good thing he did.

This mans Bunker is fine. But those that bought a old missile silo? Some ICBM’S Are hard wired to there Targets. Should say all Because it is reasonable to assume that the Engineers have a hard wired component in case of software failure and or glitch. it is real hard to replace the Board in case of a National emergency of any Nation and or entity. Just my Thoughts. I do Not Know.

The reporter (Tuchman) think one little box of ammunition is “enough to start an army”?? Really? What an ignorant moron!

The good thing about having people like Simpleton around is knowing that he won’t be around for long breathing the same air. He’s an example of how not to live.

Don’t let Obama see your guns (3rd pic down) or he will fill it in with concrete just so you are not able to get your guns. What about you? Keeping you and the American people safe from your guns is more important.

Obama will be pushing to outlaw bunkers now after Alabama. Of course his bunker in the White House will be exempt, just like his guard’s weapons and high capacity clips.

You want 24 hours notice… OK. As soon as you see the US turn it’s back on Israel and leave them to fight the russians and a-rabs alone… you have less than 24 hours to exit the country. This country will be no more. Sorry, a bunker won’t help you much. Kind of an over sized coffin I guess.
