Even if you didn’t watch the Super Bowl, chances are you’ve heard of GoDaddy’s “smart meets sexy” commercial featuring an unbelievably uncomfortable make-out session between Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli and nerdy actor Jesse Heiman.
It was almost universally disliked, coming in dead last on USA Today’s “Ad Meter” results and earning comments like, “I don’t care who wins the game. I just don’t want to see that commercial again, ever.”
But odds are you’ll be seeing more commercials like it, since GoDaddy says it helped them achieve their best day of sales ever.
The Internet’s “largest hosting and domain registration provider” told Mashable:
- Hosting sales jumped 45%.
- Dot-com domain sales rose 40%.
- New mobile customers increased by 35%.
- The company added 10,000 customers in total.
Not only that, Heiman says his dating life has really taken off– though that’s not really all that surprising.
He told TMZ: “I’ve actually had guys tweet me that they wish they were me, and girls tweet me saying they wish they were [Bar Refaeli]…”
He’s also had a couple of real-life girls ask him for pictures.
GoDaddy says the two shot the take 45 times before they could get it right, and two other proposed versions of the commercial were rejected by CBS for being too indecent.

Feb. 6, 2013 at 1:25pmReaders take warning: One member of my web site had a GoDaddy account for about a year, five years ago. It NEVER worked. Occasionally pages looked the way they were meant to look from her computer, but they were never accessible from other computers. And now Google is using her defunct GoDaddy as an excuse not to “monetize” my web site. DON’T GO WITH GODADDY.

All of you have to realize that they are advertising to a completely brain-dead, drug and alcohol addicted public. Once you understand that, the ad makes perfect sense.

Feb. 6, 2013 at 12:15pmAnother example of sheeple falling for a corporate ad. The Super Bowl is corporatism at its worst. Corporatism is not capitalism. In corporatism you have a few companies buying up their competition to become bigger and bigger and preventing more competitors from entering the market. Most of these PC corporations are a microcosm of a dictatorship with their “diversity” and other affirmative action programs.

Feb. 6, 2013 at 12:50pmNo, this stuck in the minds of people (SEARED in the minds of people) which is why it worked.
The ad worked because the people were of sound mind to be disturbed,
not because they were of unsound minds.

Feb. 6, 2013 at 1:02pmI don’t trust “Go Daddy’s” claim that the ad brought them success. It sounds like a load of “end justify’s the means” crap to say their numbers are up. The truth isn’t important… I can do whatever I want so long as I claim victory afterwards?? Funny, I suspect this was the same strategy used by the Democrats in a recent election…

Feb. 6, 2013 at 11:21amLet me get this straight, they got 10,000 new customers (and that is a 40% increase), means they only had 25,000 customers… but can afford superbowl commercial air prices… someone is grossly overpaying for godaddy’s grossly overpriced product…

Feb. 6, 2013 at 10:15amThat’s BS. GoDaddy is king.
I moved my domains from GoDaddy in 2011 to a different webhost. I had zero problem. The new webhost (whom I won’t mention by name, but you have probably heard of them) can’t hold a candle to GoDaddy’s prices or service. I should have never moved, and as soon as my two-year hosting plan is up, I’m going back to GoDaddy asap. I don’t work for them. Just think their products are superior.

Feb. 6, 2013 at 8:59amI don’t buy that their sales spiked 40% in one day. They’ve been around, and have been advertising, long enough where people that are in the market for their service know them. A spike like that…no way.
