Guess What Bloomberg Might Ban Next…

NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg Considering Ban on Styrafoam Cups

NEW YORK (TheBlaze/AP) — Could plastic foam containers get 86′d from the menu of takeout food options in the nation’s biggest city?

A sanitation official said Wednesday the idea is actually under discussion.

Polystyrene foam, sometimes sold under the brand name Styrofoam, has long been popular among restaurateurs for lightweight, heat-retaining containers, but environmentalists complain it takes years to break down in trash. Some communities around the country have barred eateries from using to-go containers made of it.

As New York City officials prepare a report on how to double the city’s residential recycling rate, the foam is “one of the things that you have to look at,” Department of Sanitation Deputy Commissioner Ron Gonen said by phone Wednesday.

“It may or may not be a component of the overall plan,” due in a few weeks, said Gonen, who oversees recycling and environmental sustainability initiatives.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg last year set a goal of recycling 30 percent of the city’s household trash by 2017, up from about 15 percent now. City Hall is “always willing to take a look at new ways to reduce waste that can’t be recycled or reused,” spokesman John McCarthy said Wednesday.

It costs the city an average of $86 per ton to landfill some 2 million tons of garbage a year; by contrast, the city nets a payment of at least $10 a ton for recycling paper and about $14 a ton for recycling glass and plastic, Gonen said.

“The environmental benefits of recycling are obvious,” he said. “What we’re trying to do is make clear to everyone why it’s important from an economic perspective.”

His agency is looking at a range of ideas for boosting recycling and trimming trash. One notion could be expanding test programs for separating and collecting organic waste, for instance.

A similar proposal has stalled in New York’s City Council in recent years, and restaurateurs aren’t eager to see it take on new life.

“We shouldn’t start banning products until we have done a more full analysis of the costs associated, not only with government but for small businesses,” New York State Restaurant Association spokesman Andrew Moesel said Wednesday. “Now is not the time to continue to put more regulations and cost burdens on an industry that is already struggling to make a profit.”

Bloomberg is a fan of banning things. He recently banned big gulps, semi-automatic rifles, magazines with more than seven rounds and now Styrofoam cups are apparently on the chopping block.

New York and NYC are microcosms of what BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA is planning and carrying out for the United States of America. We can not wait 4 years for his term, his power and control to end. The man is a traitor and he must be impeached or tried for treason.

Better wake up, the minority is ruling the majority, and changing our culture to their kibbutz collective where the individual exists for the masses.

No one should pay attention to a billionaire thay bought the Mayors office. Believe him when he bans bodyguards. This man runs all kinds of programs to disarm the citizens yet behind their backs he calls them the little people. While doing this he’s laughing his arse off because they can’t see the levity of disarming while he has 4 armed bodyguards. But of course they are the little people and the city couldn’t survive without the leadership of one so important..

Most comments reflect the ignorance that has brought this country to the state it is in. Non recyclable plastic and styrofoam should have been eliminated 40 years ago. But instead cities like NY dumped them along with millions of tons of trash into the ocean. Until of course the government told them could only use landfills. So evidently it is progress to not trash the ocean in favor of polluting ground water, lakes and eventually the ocean through runoff from landfills. The notion that one would need to argue that we should do everything possible to be good stewards of our air, water and land is beyond comprehension. No question there should be much much less regulation. Companies, communities, states and the federal government should be required to return air or water as clean as it was in the first place. And now given the debilitated state we have placed our environment in… return it cleaner. There simple is no rational argument against this that is nothing more than selfish, adolescent thought and behavior.

we need to ban BELTS… as we saw on stus wonderful world, we have more people being killed by sexual asphyation than killed by rifles… if the democrats are not hypocrites they will also go after banning belts and brining back elastic…

really, BAN BELTS AND ANY LENGTHS OF ROPE OVER 2 FT… think how many lives we could save FROM OUR KIDS BEING KILLED FROM STRANGLING THEMSELVES WHILE MASTERBATING…. about 350 people were killed by rifles in the past year, and over 450 were killed by self strangulation while masterbating…

THINK OF THE CHILDREN… we need to prevent them from using this DANGEROUS EQUIPMENT the belt or rope…. and the best way to keep our children safe is by removing these objects from society that do no good

i know your going to say, belts can be used for FASHION, KEEPING YOUR PANTS ON, and colors… but too many people are being killed by miss using the BELT… how can we ensure the safety of our children… YOU DONT REALLY NEED A BELT OR ROPE DO YOU??? just use elastic, its a great substitute…

Incredible that New Yorkers don’t “get it” that tyranny starts small and continues until overwhelming all else. New Yorkers have lost any ability for self regulation, behaving themselves because it is the right thing to do, not because it is the law. The are becoming slaves to the Bloombergs of the world. Styrofoam is an inert, petroleum-based product. Petroleum that has not been pumped from below ground has been there for eons and if untapped will remain there indefinitely. Petroleum can seep onto land or into water. It can kill plants and animals and leave soil barren. Petroleum that has been processed into styrofoam does not seep or poison. It is inert. So what possible harm can styrofoam do in a landfill? So what if it takes years to break down? Seriously… what are they going to do… dig up the landfills to plant posies???? It is a great product. Just leave it alone and stick it in a landfill when you’re done using it. What exactly does it harm?

It’s not what harm it will do, it’s space. It doesn’t decompose for years and years. Where do you expect them to put this stuff? Can it be burned? Here in my city we burn everything. We pay people at the trash company to separate all trash, all recycled goods are separated from the trash. I don’t separate my trash here since by me doing so creates a job. I couldn’t imagine having to do that smelly job especially in the summer months but still. I’ve had friends ask me why I don’t recycle it’s because I create a job. Even if I did recycle (separate into 4 containers) the worker still has to go through my trash. So what is the need to do it twice!?

In this case critical mass is that point where pressure gets enough people moving that a reaction occurs.

As long as the pressure is fairly benign, doesn’t interfere in people’s lives too much, he will be able to continue his policies. He knows this, and is watchful for the beginnings of a reaction.

He brushed up against disaster when he told everyone that no silly storm was going to stop the New York Marathon by God! We’ll show the world that New Yorkers are tough, resiliant, and can overcome anything.

…except when people saw tons of bottled water, food, massive generators, and half of New York was still without power…Mr. We can do anything! had to change his tune….and he did, without a second thought. Which tells us he’s a good politician and is cautious.

I think he’ll be one of the few that can boil the frog with slow incremental heat. Which is a pity for those poor people in New York. They have no idea that what he is doing is setting up precedents with minor things, so that when he’s ready he will have justification to truly strip people of their freedoms.

You people don’t get to say what should happen in New York. You people stay away from that city, stick to your omahas and biloxis. You don’t get New York when the south rises again. You can live in your caves and bunkers with all your guns in cultureless waste-holes of ignorance. You can breath your toxic air and drink your cancerous water elsewhere because liberals got this global warming thing right. Don’t be angry bro, you win in the end . . . you get to call it the rapture when you float away.

Why on Earth would the South want New York? I’ll take trees and grass any day. What a cesspool that city is. 250 sq. ft. apartments? Really? You’re talking about me living in a cave? hahaha. ‘liberals got this global warming thing right’? Well, I have to agree…if the world hadn’t been warming up for all this time we would still be stuck in the Ice Age! Arrogant punks think that humans have the power to affect the climate. Ridiculous!

Hey Cat, Florida is the most ridiculous place on earth. I dare you to spend 20 minutes in Miami. Tourists go there because they have more sun…there is no other reason to go there, it is because of the sun. Florida is a cesspool of liars and thieves. It is the worst state ever. You would be lucky to move up to a cave dwelling, but you cannot have caves in florida because half the state is built on top of a swamp. Basically, New York is a proper state and NYC is the greatest city on earth. For you flat earthers who don’t appreciate technology and other amenities like running water, it is a scary place full of taxes (god-forbid) and intellectuals (with proper grammar, oh my!), but be assured it is better than Florida. You should read Carl Hiaasen, a Floridian, talk about Florida. Paraphrasing: Florida suffers from gravity…all the horrible people in the country are somehow drawn to this state, and the further south you get, the thicker the cr@p gets.

By the way, all those old New Yorkers are voting for less taxes when they move to Florida. They already raised their kids and want to spend their money on gated communities, not for your kids to go to school. That’s why you and your kids are dumb, because of new yorkers, and there is nothing you can do about it. Those old, angry, pushy, new yorkers are stealing your childrens’ futures…and there is nothing you can do about it:)

Liberals have profoundly not got global warming right. Get your head out if your hind end and look up Lord Christopher Monckton. You will find all you need to know on global warming. In the first place there is none. In the second place carbon dioxide does not increase the temperature of the atmosphere. Global warming is a hoax as well as the new term climate change. It is another attempt at control, taxation and a power grab while decimating the economies of the haves by those who falsely empathize with the have nots by the UN and the elitist progressives(regressive s) of the world.

Hey Nlitend1…let’s not argue about all this. I think we can agree that you are correct!

I am excited to be enlightened by your detailed information of the great State and city of New York. I also agree with you on your and your fellow New Yorker’s assessment of the whole global warming issue. Mayor Bloomberg should be very proud to have such staunch supporters of his policies, both new and old.
I am sure all your fellow New York residents (both city and state), hold you in very high esteem, as we here in the south also do.
Now with that said, I would add only a couple of other ideas in support of you, New York City, and the entire state of New York.
In an effort to keep everyone from enjoying all the benifits of being a New York resident, therefore keeping it all to yourselves….I would suggest an idea that has been knocked around for sometime now. Why not build a fence all around the entire boarder of New York, then patrol the boarder with drones to ensure that the unworthy, uneducated, and unhealthy people from everywhere else in the country can not penitrate the boarders…hmmmm…I like that!
Then, through your support of course, Bloomberg and Cuomo can name themselves King and Queen of this newly aquired nation.
This would be the best way I can think of to ultimately protect the ideals of this new nation. Then the king and Queen can appoint their jesters and subjects, as they see fit for their exclusive entertainment.

Oh yeah… and another thing…We here in the south would be willing to loan you an old shovel of snow blower…if we had one….but as you smart New Yorkers all know….we really have no need for shovels or snow blowers down here….hmmmmm…let’s see….it was 65 degrees today…sunny…why yesterdy it went all the way up to 70 something…I could be more exact on that temp but I was outside enjoying the beautiful sunshine and weather.

….oh gosh darn (as we say here in the south)…I see that you may see some snow up there…..I’ll let you go so you can hurry off to the grocery store and gas station before you all run out of supplies….HAVE FUN…AND ENJOY….the GREAT STATE OF NEW YORK!

The appointment of the mayors sister as as the head of the UN Consular Commission for NYC shows where the liberal progressive elitist Mayor Bloomberg stands. The only possible reason for keeping the UN in NYC or America for that matter is in keeping your friends close and YOUR ENEMIES CLOSER.

      Tricky, really.

Might is the past tense of may so it depends on whether or not Bloomey has THREATENED this action or is SUPPOSING he has the authority to do it.

Beyond that, it’s a Northeast Colloquialism to use “might” in every instance & throw away “may” unless you’re asking to use the potty. …and if you’re Irish, you’d use “might” in that instance, too.
There are no real grammar rules to prevent it.
