L.A. Police Shoot Two Innocent People During Manhunt for Ex-Cop

Los Angeles-area police shot and wounded two innocent women early Thursday during a manhunt for an ex-LAPD officer suspected of shooting three cops and killing a couple.

The two women were delivering newspapers, the Los Angeles Times reported. One was shot in the hand and one was shot in the back:

The women, shot in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue, were taken to area hospitals, Torrance police Lt. Devin Chase said. They were not identified. One was shot in the hand and the other in the back, according to Jesse Escochea, who captured video of the victims being treated. It was not immediately known what newspapers the women were delivering. After the shooting, the blue pickup was riddled with bullet holes and what appeared to be newspapers lay in the street alongside.

[...]

A second shooting, involving Torrance police officers, occurred about 5:45 a.m. at Flagler Lane and Beryl Street in Torrance. No injuries were reported in that incident.

Chase said that in both instances police came across vehicles they thought were similar to the one [suspect Christopher] Dorner is believed to be driving. Neither vehicle was Dorner’s.

“Now it appears neither of them are directly related,” Chase said. “In both of them, officers believed they were at the time.”

According to the Associated Press, the first shooting occurred while officers were guarding a target in a multi-page manifesto Dorner wrote threatening other members of the LAPD.

With the NY gun banning law, they apparently forgot to exempt the cops…..and were going to go back and “fix” it by exempting active and retired law enforcement and their personally owned weapons ? Why, you ask ? To keep the cops on board with this garbage. Same with the Feinstein bill…..exempts cops and retired cops. Why, you ask ?? Same reason. Did you see all the cops in Minnesota behind Obama when he was talking gun control ? I guarantee if you remove the exemption for even retired cops, they won’t find ANY to stand behind him. To give some kind of “special citizen” status to ANYONE is an affront to the Constitution. This cannot be allowed to stand.
I have a lot of respect for some individual police officers, but their organizations are decidedly pro gun control. This guy has the mindset of way too many officers.
The other thing is that police have about double the amount of domestic violence in theri families, but nothing is said about whay you would give people with those stats access to weapons that the regualr public cannot own.

It is from the bottom to the top of these organizations. To change it would take a 100% purge. I don’t see how it can be done at this point. DeBAATHification didn’t work in Iraq. I live here in Corona and commute to Fullerton each day. I am staying home until the police understand that my dark blue truck is not being driven by a cop killer. I highly recommend any black man driving a dark truck to stay home until the blood atonement attitude of the SoCal police subsides. I guarantee that the officers who shot them will be cleared due to immunity and their iron clad use of force policies. The final outcome will be a statement: “Although these incidents are regrettable and tragic, we find the officers involved were within department policy regarding use of deadly force.”. When an officer tells you “Get your effing cop-killing a.s.s out of the truck” and you do not immediately comply, this can happen.

What the police did in these two cases terrifies me. We are at their mercy until the cop killer is found.

No, you are always at their mercy. While there are a few cops out there who are true heroes, and really do want to serve and protect people, the system does not, and the majority in the system have been corrupted by it, either through attrition or will. They are out for revenge, and they don’t care how many bystanders get killed standing in their way. The police are not protectors of the public, they are enforcers of state and Union will.

They were two little older Hispanic ladies delivering the LA Times to the neighborhood! As much as I am a supporter of law enforcement there is an “attitude” problem for many. Note the word “civilian” to denote private citizens when, in reality, cops are also “civilian” but public servants. This “us versus them” does come from having to deal with the underbelly of society, but also the “sheeple” position most of society is herded into. We are all in this together as some cops (pro 2nd) point and and we as private citizens have skin (ours!) in the game. I hope “private citizens” are significant in getting this ex-cop, now cop killer…. off the streets.

The comments so far on this story reflect the exact reason not to become a law enforcement officer. Everything points to the fact that people are more secure living among the chaos mentality. The exact situation that the LAPD officers encountered at the shooting of two citizens, has not even been told. These situations have not been scripted and each case is different from every other situation. If you watch the shows on TV which show actual enforcement stops, shows what kind of reactions an officer encounters many times each and every day. Stopping a vehicle for a broken taillight can end up being an all out war. Police think all the time, “is this the moment my life will be taken away from me?” Can you even imagine wanting to take a thankless job like that? This is America and as long as people are still willing to take the foul actions of the public that you are eluding to in these posts, makes them special. It’s not a JOB. It’s a calling. Thank God that McDonalds still has safe jobs for you to entertain yourselves.

Calm down! The reason for the comments are that folks like me have lost faith in LEO’s due to the never ending incidents here in SoCal: Fullerton homeless man beaten to death, Marine shot in Oceanside dropping his daughter off at school, today’s incidents with the truck shootings, etc. This is all within the last couple of years. Tell me again why we should not live in fear of the police? Yes there is a need for law enforcement and the job is tough. My concern is that they respond with deadly force way too often. As a combat vet, our rules of engagement were much more strict whereas many LE departments policies are lax. Something is wrong here!

Update: Two women were shot in their truck while delivering newspapers in the neighborhood of an officers residence that was being protected from the suspect. Chief Beck has stated it was a mistake. If this is the case, as a SoCal resident we are justified in our fear of cops gone wild with “buck fever” and will shoot anything that remotely resembles the suspect or his vehicle.

To Chief Beck: I want to see you squirm out of this one! You have LAPD deployed in every city OUTSIDE of LA that your officers live including the city I live in here in Corona!

Chief Beck, why is it that local Corona & Riverside police can’t provide coverage and you have deployed LEO’s out of your enforcement jurisdiction? We have ample sheriffs and local police to cover this! I just saw your tactical command post on Magnolia and the I-15!

Chief Beck, if it moves, shoot it! Your officers are like a city boy hunter with buck fever on the first day of deer season!

I guess Chief Beck will issue a statement: “Although regrettable and tragic, we are reviewing our use of deadly force policies to prevent future incidents”. You have made this statement many times before and I expect you will again. Apparently your past policy reviews were an abject failure. I not only want you fired, I want you held accountable to the people you supposedly serve!

And I’m positive you’ve never given thought to that when you get pulled over when you know you’ve done nothing to warrant it.

Every cop might think that- and I’m willing to bet there are a great number of ‘civilians’ who think exactly the same thing when they get stopped these days. And with great justification. How do ‘we’ know if it’s a legitimate cop, or someone who’s been having a bad day and decides to take it out on his traffic stop?

Or what about people like Jose Guerena? Awakened by a screaming wife, gunned down in front of his children and left to bleed out because medics weren’t allowed to see him.

Or the kids who see their pet gunned down because a cop entered the wrong home.

Or the two year old girl murdered by cops on her couch during a botched entry at the wrong address.

Or cops given free rein for search and siezure because the Fourth Amendment is shot down by a supreme court.

How much more do I need to go on before fools wake up?

The philosophy at the top always trickles down. Obama and “high ranking government” officials can decide who lives and who dies; well, that philosophy, no matter what is done to prevent it, will trickle down the government hierarchy.

If you have goodness at the top helping and respecting people, you will have goodness at the bottom helping and respecting people.

The 1911 pistol just celebrated its 100yr anniversary. This is a semi-automatic pistol and has been around longer than any of the idiots in DC that are trying to make it out to be this new evil weapon that is responsible for murders over the last 20 years and must be banned. A gun is no more dangerous than a pencil. It only becomes a murder weapon when used by a sick individual to take someone’s life.
A gun, hammer, bat, knife, fist, etc. are all inanimate objects and are incapable of killing anyone on their own. Attention directed at these object as a way to reduce the number of murders and/or suicides is a foolish endeavor. Some will argue otherwise but only those that refuse to look at the statistical facts.
In the 70’s we stopped locking up the mentally ill but chose to give them some pills and allow them the ability to continue to interact with the rest of society. We have an increase in assaults and mass murders and as a society we push the false belief that it is all the result of a piece of machinery. That is correct; a gun is nothing more than a mechanical apparatus. It doesn’t have a heart, brain or limbs to carry out an evil act. I only hope the rational thinkers basing decision on facts outnumber the ignorant that only live on emotion to truly address this problem and provide resolutions that will actually help in the end.

Not every accidental killing by cops is intentional, a lot of them ARE accidents – done either by trigger happy cops or by the actions of the ones they shot (for example, here in Vegas we had a cop kill a mother who was merely going for her cell-phone when he stopped her for shop-liftnig, but HE thought she was going for a gun and shot and killed her)

Cops can’t afford to take chances, so while I hate hearing that innocents get killed by cops, a lot of times you gotta look at it from the cops perspective and see what THEY see vs what the MEDIA tells you.

      Kalshion-
An accidental shooting by a “trigger happy” cop is no accident.

Obama & Co. are worried about us having guns? Bloomberg is probably saying ” See? I was right the first time”.

I’m shocked, SHOCKED that the LAPD behaved recklessly yet again. I just can’t decide if they’re just plain pigs or qualify for the more pungent rectal pores? Either way, nice job LAPD…NOT…!

LAPD are the most incompetent LEOs in the world. I come from LA and I will say that the LA riots were a good thing in that after the riots, for a brief time, the LAPD were respectful after. I’m white and I had my car searched for any traffic violation. Every chance the LAPD get they intentionally make enemies and all unnecessarily. I tried to complain about lies and dropped charges that even the prosecutors couldn’t believe by going into a police station to file a complaint and I was threatened with arrest if I didn’t leave. All I said when asked what the watch commander should do about this and I replied “fire him” and that was it. It was like a light switched on and he got aggressive and violent. There is a mental disorder at the LAPD. Roid Rage and other things going on. Scary stuff. If you think LAPD or any big city cops are out to serve and protect, well you will see. I am certain these guys would love to kick in doors of nonviolent people and kill them for sport if they could get away with it, and they do a lot of the time.

I just hope the victims were white. Otherwise there could be problems in la-loopy-do.

And these liberal do*ches keep saying the police protect the citizens. The city police are little more than nazi ss agents that will follow whatever order is given.

the police deserve what they get. They don’t bother to verify their target, they just shoot. No one is safe as long the police are running around with guns. Maybe CA needs to ban it’s officers from carrying, seeing how they can’t be trusted.
The LA police are the second most corrupt police force in the nation, the first place slot goes to NYC police dept.

no joke – the police can’t be bothered with verifying who’s driving the vehicle – just shoot first and ask questions later.
