L.A. Police Shoot Two Innocent People During Manhunt for Ex-Cop
Los Angeles-area police shot and wounded two innocent women early Thursday during a manhunt for an ex-LAPD officer suspected of shooting three cops and killing a couple.
The two women were delivering newspapers, the Los Angeles Times reported. One was shot in the hand and one was shot in the back:
The women, shot in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue, were taken to area hospitals, Torrance police Lt. Devin Chase said. They were not identified. One was shot in the hand and the other in the back, according to Jesse Escochea, who captured video of the victims being treated. It was not immediately known what newspapers the women were delivering. After the shooting, the blue pickup was riddled with bullet holes and what appeared to be newspapers lay in the street alongside.
[...]
A second shooting, involving Torrance police officers, occurred about 5:45 a.m. at Flagler Lane and Beryl Street in Torrance. No injuries were reported in that incident.
Chase said that in both instances police came across vehicles they thought were similar to the one [suspect Christopher] Dorner is believed to be driving. Neither vehicle was Dorner’s.
“Now it appears neither of them are directly related,” Chase said. “In both of them, officers believed they were at the time.”
According to the Associated Press, the first shooting occurred while officers were guarding a target in a multi-page manifesto Dorner wrote threatening other members of the LAPD.

Posted on February 7, 2013 at 7:26pmReprise from other Dorner the Dope thread.
I tried, I really tried, to give the POS a decent hearing. Went to Gawker got as far as his “list of places I have lived.”
The following conclusions were inescapable.
1. He’s mental.
2. His fellow cops are often pieces of sheite and of no noticeable higher Moral Integrity than the rest of us. Which begs the question–WHY should such immature and undisciplined individuals have power over ANYONE? This in SPITE of the fact we have only Officer Sheitebag’s Word for anything that happened. Even if he made up 90% of it and Spun the rest, NOBODY here comes across as worthy of the Badge. So why should they HAVE one? Why should THEY have the PRESUMPTION of Ordering their scarcely less honorable Fellow Dumbcits around?
This tends to confirm, based on a reversal of early experience late in my life, my recent experience that most cops do NOT have even BASIC integrity or sense of SERVICE, just a Glorified Pack Instinct. I’ve SEEN it. It disappointed while piszing me off. But then that’s the Nature of Our Debased Republic.
3. Even granting the Principle of “presumed innocence” and “not wanting to unfairly smear someone in the press” The LAPD is COVERING UP for their own “Blue Line” here. UNACCEPTABLE!

Posted on February 7, 2013 at 6:00pmA p#g got shot near where I live a few years ago and I saw them coming in my rear view and I barely got off of the road in time. There was six cop cars doing about 130 mph right down the white line. They didn’t give a damn who got in their way.
They go into a feeding frenzy when it’s one of THEM not just one of us that gets shot.

Posted on February 7, 2013 at 5:06pmI read a story (via Drudge) about this that included a picture of the back of the pick up – it was really shot up. I really don’t think there will be anyway to spin this where the officers don’t come out as “shooting first”. I just hope there’s dash cam video if the officers acted appropriately. Without it, they’re done.

Posted on February 7, 2013 at 4:50pmwasn’t it California police that fired like 42 rounds at a perp in a truck at POINT BLANK RANGE and didn’t hit a thing?
Mayhaps O Biden n Feinstein need to confiscate the weapons of LAPD to reduce innocent deaths due to gun violence.
sarc off… seriously, how are the ROE so badly bungled that women totally uninvolved with the man they are chasing are killed. Cop killers and killer cops seldom make it to trial, but it doesn’t mean you light the offender up before making positive Ident!

Posted on February 7, 2013 at 4:43pmMore bad cops in the news, here you got a cop suspect and the other cops are shooting unarmed citizens for not reason other than they could. I know we will hear how the ‘Officers Feared for the Safety and the Safety of others” as thier excuse but the tragic thing is they want to take away our guns. Seems like to me now, more than ever , EVERY CITIZENS NEEDS TO BE ARMED. If it isn’t the criminals trying to hurt someone now we have the police trying to hurt someone… These cops need to be fired, prosecuted and the weapons taken away along with their right to carry or own a weapon… There is no excuse for their actions no matter how people will WHINE about how tough their jobs are. They were trained professionally and have demonstrated they cannot be trusted with a fire arm

Posted on February 7, 2013 at 4:07pmPlease don’t act surprised these kinds of deaths happen often. I’ve been warning friends in Kansas City to watch out after an officer is hurt or worst yet killed. A woman with lupus was killed as was a 13year old car thief; both died when officers felt threatened. Both following deaths in the police force, sad yet how do police maintain respect if they let people think that cops aren’t tough. People learn not to mess with cops after the cops have been able to show what can happen if they do.

Posted on February 7, 2013 at 3:58pmWAIT WAIT!!!
So you see a vehicle that LOOKS like the suspects car, and you start shooting at it??? Sorry, but WHY NOT perhaps check the license plates first, look IN the vehicle, THEN open fire once you have confirmed the suspect is the person in your sights??
Stupid, Incompetent, brainless doughnut cramming cops…. What happened to the good old days of Cops that were properly trained and NOT trigger happy?? I am starting to think that the police break the law more often than the citizenry… (and not just traffic violations, which we all know THEY DO break more than civilians…).. Some more cops that need to lose their jobs….

Posted on February 7, 2013 at 2:53pmThe police only carry guns to protect themselves… just remember that. Also, when seconds count, the police are minutes away. I am not bashing police here, they have a tough job and most do it well. But police mostly show up long after the crime has been committed. You are responsible to defend yourself.
I would suggest there be more vigorous training for LAPD, future and current officers.

Posted on February 7, 2013 at 2:45pmMaybe it’s time we demanded proof that every single cop in the country passes a gun safety test every year. They should only be allowed one chance to pass. Fail the test, and it’s wait until next year. There should be no compensation for time off, and the time off shouldn’t count for length of time in service.
Oh yeah – the test should be administered by a civilian in an open forum. No cheating.

Posted on February 7, 2013 at 2:42pmTo the LAPD Chief Beck: I want you to inform the public of what we as citizens are to do when stopped by the police so that your LEO’s will not shoot us!
Chief Beck and other SoCal Chiefs: Why is it that your officers intentionally use vulgar language and escalate situations rather than be professional and treat us citizens with the respect we deserve? In many instances such as the homeless man that was beat to death in Fullerton, LEO’s intentionally escalate the situation in order to trigger the suspect to react which as in this example led to the police beating this man to death as he cried out for his father to help him!
If the job is getting to your officers, then maybe they are in the wrong line of work.
