See the Prayer Breakfast Speech That’s Grabbing Headlines: Doctor Attacks Political Correctness, National Debt in Front of Obama

  • Dr. Benjamin Carson delivered a noteworthy National Prayer Breakfast keynote speech in President Barack Obama’s presence
  • Carson attacked political correctness as a “dangerous” threat to free speech and encouraged Americans to boldly share their views
  • The pediatric neurosurgeon also provided his theories about the national debt, deficits, taxation and health care, taking stances that were opposed to the president’s
  • Obama watched intently as Carson spoke for more than 25 minutes

UPDATE: Dr. Carson Reveals Why He Spoke Out Against Obama’s Policies at Prayer Breakfast — Plus, Would He Ever Run for President?

One of the more unique speeches delivered at this morning’s National Prayer Breakfast came from Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, a world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Taking the stage before President Barack Obama’s faith-filled address, Carson spoke for more than 25 minutes, tackling issues ranging from education to personal responsibility. His keynote, while predicated upon the theme of Jesus Christ as his ultimate role model, also took a starkly political tone, advocating against some of the very policies the president has implemented.

At the beginning of his speech, Carson shared an intense disdain for political correctness. Without getting too specific on the issue front, he said that Americans should stop being afraid to speak up and defend their beliefs; he also encouraged people to respect the individuals they disagree with. Carson held little back, condemning political correctness as “a horrible thing” that is “dangerous,” as it hampers freedom of thought and expression.

“We’ve reached a point where people are actually afraid to talk about what they want to say, because somebody might be offended,” Carson said, noting the example of people refraining from saying “Merry Christmas.” “We’ve got to get over this sensitivity and it keeps people from saying what they really believe.”

Carson encouraged discussion about societal issues, also pointing out education as an essential conundrum the country needs to confront. He highlighted his own path from poverty to success, sharing very personal details about his parents and early family life and subsequently described the importance of helping students seeking to advance academically through his Carson Scholars Fund.

The speech took an interesting turn when the doctor cautioned that moral decay and fiscal irresponsibility can have dire consequences — even for powerful countries like America. Here, he became even more pointed and impassioned.

“I think particularly about ancient Rome. Very powerful — nobody could even challenge them militarily…they destroyed themselves from within,” Carson continued. “Moral decay. Fiscal irresponsibility.”

While he said America’s issues are dire, he was positive that the nation can fix its ways, as there are bright and innovative people who simply need to come together to address the problems at hand.

“And one of our big problems right now…our deficit is a big problem,” he said, as Obama watched him intently. ”Think about it — and our national debt — $16 and a half trillion dollars.”

To illustrate just how massive the debt is, Carson told the audience that if they counted one number per second, it would take them 507,000 years to get to the sum total. The doctor said that the massive fiscal blunder is something that the nation must contend with. From there, he moved on to taxation, seemingly taking a stance in direct opposition to Obama’s.

“What about our taxation system — so complex there is no one that can possibly comply with every jot and tittle,” he noted, going on to call for a simpler (i.e. flat tax) system. ”When I pick up my Bible, you know what I see — I see the fairest individual in the universe — God — and he’s given us a system. It’s called tithe.”

Carson progressed, seemingly comparing the tithe, at least in principal, to the flat tax system. Rather than continuing to tier taxes owed, he argued that everyone should pay the same proportion and that, through this fairer system, money sent by wealthier Americans for protection abroad should be brought back to America to help build infrastructure and create additional jobs.

The doctor also addressed medical care, advocating for health savings accounts and railing against the notion that Americans should be sending money into a large bureaucratic system.

You can watch the entire, 26-minute speech below:

From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The INVISIBLE “GOVERNMENT”

“Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an INVISIBLE GOVERNMENT owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people. To destroy this INVISIBLE GOVERNMENT, to befoul the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of today.”
      ― Theodore Roosevelt

Those who don’t know this man, Benjamin, need to watch the movie about how amazing a man he is. He is one of the very, very few surgeons who uses prayer to guide his work. His story is amazing, his mother couldn’t even read, but tricked her boys into believing she could. She made them do their homework, and always keep ahead… He is one of the greatest, if not theee greatest surgeon in the world. Remember those twins that they said was impossible to separate, well, he did it. His very first noteworthy surgery was such a touching story and an amazing one. Clearly, this man is in touch with the spirit, because knowledge alone could not have lead him to believing it was possible to not only remove an entire hemisphere of a child’s brain, but because of how flexible the brain is at that age, can’t remember the word, but this little girl who had it removed, was able to talk nearly immediately and was walking with in days … No surgeon would take this chance, because of fear. Fear comes from knowledge, and will always be what drives the intellect. A man of faith can tap into the unknown, into wisdom, and this leads us to places where we have never been before. IF you know what you know, you can only do what you have done, getting what you have always got. This is the path of the intellect, the liberal, with fear, always driving them to try to control that which is uncontrollable. It is insanity, really.

If I were conspiricy minded, Ranger has about the right reaction to this- discredit the Doctor, and it just might happen.

If I were blinded by skin color, I would call this man Uncle Tom, or about the best person of that skin color and support him as such but still not see him as my equal.

If I were looking to set my own belief’s atop others, then I would declare my allegiance with this man and his beliefs because I share many of them.

Since I am not any of the above, I declare that I have a great amount of common ground with his belief’s, but as a person, there are likely areas we still would disagree on. However, notice that even President Obama, with whom I have very little common ground, did sit and respectfully listen to the speech, despite how uncomfortable it appeared to make him, he did look like he was listening.

Listening is the start of understanding. I suggest we all (myself foremost) take a lesson and listen to even those with whom we disagree, and try to find the truth and areas of common thought we share.

I applaud his speech and await the media reaction to it. I think it won’t get much play at all in the more left leaning media halls.

A true grit American spirit and story. No, Obama can’t touch him and I believe he, Obama would be afraid to try anything which could only hurt himself. Betcha that is why Obama pulled himself out of bed early and made a speech about Christianity because the good doctor is a Christian. I remember President Bush giving him that medal and I approved then and his speech now. Wish he were interested in running for President, but I’m sure he’s needed where he is. God Bless him, a wonderful person, I wish we had more of his kind in our Government.

I now have two GIANT HEROS from Johns Hopkins! Dr. Vivian Thomas and now Dr. Benjamin Carson! If you don’t know about Dr. Vivian Thomas, the movie “Something The Lord Made” was about him. It’s an amazing story! My daughter lives because of him, albeit many years later, but I will always be eternally grateful to him and his many sacrifices.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18pPecSv-kw

I think Dr. Carson is the type of man who could pull this nation up out of the moral cesspool we find ourselves in! Our country could live too, if we model it after Dr. Carson’s values. I pray our President listens to him and take his words to heart. They were outstandingly wise words. And I do think Dr. Carson pricked his heart at least three times, when he spoke of his mother, as I saw him brushing back tears. We should take up the cause Dr. Carson started, and start praying for Obama that God will touch him with the truth of what our nation is becoming. We need to take this seriously: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and seek my face, I will hear from Heaven and HEAL THEIR LAND!” The ball is in OUR court to P-R-A-Y! And, He always keeps His promises if we are faithful to His Word.

I think Mr. Obama has had deep hurts in his life, and followed a path laid out by others. We’ve all been there done that in some way, and have finally “seen the light,” and have chosen to follow it! Let’s pray this speech humbles him enough to see that glorio

Oh yes, and the perfect scriptures to back it up!

I hope everyone noticed Mrs obama clapping for lots of thisd mans remarks. BUT I hope you also noticed obama did not. And at the end when there was a standing ovation Obmas, Biden and others at the front tables did not honor him by standing. Or applauding. Now no one says they have to but it is giving the man his due. Obama was obviously bored (because he wasnt talking) and had the bad manners to show it.

Nice man nice speech the question is how many people really heard what the good doctor had to say?
The man’s story is quite compelling but seems to be the exact opposite of our current messiah in chief. The doctor seems to be quite conservative and believes in personal responsibility and self-reliance. The current trend in this country seems to be dependence and no responsibility. The look on the POTUS’s face the entire time was a man who was being punched in the stomach. The person who scheduled the doctor to speak is certainly in trouble at this time.
I can’t understand how the gentleman can make so much sense and people still refuse to listen to the sense being made. I want to have faith in my country but I’m beginning to think it’s nothing like the country of 30-40 years ago I grew up in. It had fundamentally changed even before Obummer got in.

Obama never heard most of the speech, because it was too early in the morning for this lazy-bones, bag of a president. Watch his eyes all through the speech, he is trying to stay awake. His eyes strart to close, then he starts blinking, then rubs his eyes to try to keep up appearances, but you can tell his mind was elsewhere and he was struggling to stay awake. Of course Oblameo didn’t applaud, because he didn’t agree with what he DID hear, and HE’s the king, HE doesn’t HAVE to applaud.

Reach out to the Conservatives who aren’t begging for fascism. I’m posting this at HuffPost, DailyKos, here, and Reddit last. Stop being idiot Republicans and start being Americans.
Here it is. The most important thing your eyes will ever see. It’s a Christian conservative site. http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/52923
Remember, your religion doesn’t make you great or an American. What you do to help and care for your brother does. Doing what’s right when no one is looking does. Believing in the constitution does. Making sure that the minorities have the same rights as the majority does. Good luck to you all.

Fair enough. The Woodrow Wilson Quote is in dispute. I am fully aware of his political ideologies.
Yes, he was a flaming progressive POS.

Forget that quote. Check the validity of the others. I am sure you will find that they are accurate.

Now, to get back to the issue at hand.

Regardless of the Authenticity of that quote, the FACTS remain.

Our Country adopted our 3rd central bank in 1913. That is when a federal income tax began.

In 1933 we declared Bankruptcy and had to surrender our Country and it’s assets to the PRIVATE BANK !!!!

In 1944, the Lien was transfered to the IMF and World Bank which created the U.N. the following year.

Thye U.N. then became the CREDITOR of the BANKRUPT UNITED STATES of AMERICA (a private corporation)

In 1992 under EO 12803 AMERICA WAS SOLD !!!!!

The investors and new owners of this Country have new plans and are being stymied by “American’s That cling to their bibles and guns”.

      THAT is the BOTTOM LINE.

I Loved it. Someone finally took it to nobama and hea had to sit there and take it. What he was essentially saying was if God only asked for 10% why does the government ask for so much more.

Did a little simple math. A couple living in California making $120K a year. They have 3 kids and both parents smoke. Obamacare will cost them $20K year , according to the IRS, plus about $5K in smokers premiums. That $30K or 25% of gross income. Their federal tax rate is 25%. State tax rate is 9.3%. Thats 59.3%.

Thats before paying at least 7.5% sales tax, property tax, local/district tax, dog/hunting/fishing license, telephone/electrical/heating tax, gasoline tax, etc. You get the point.

      God only asks for 10%

He seemed to glance toward Obama briefly and even seemed to gesture to his right when he said this. He just could not bring himself to say the word “MUSLIM”.

The good Doctor makes me rethink some of my views on the African-American peoples of this country. And that is no small feat. I am sorry if I offend anyone but I have lost all faith in the decency of black people due to the constant cries of racism and the blaming of whites for all of their communities problems. I have had serious conversations with close life long black friends and they always go back to slavery and discrimination. When I bring up the discrimination against whites currently their attitude seems to always be serves us right for the history of this country. Of corse that assumes I am responsible for the sins of my father and also that all whites were slave owners. And also forgetting all of the whites who gave much to end slavery and discrimination. I have been losing faith in these people as a race. But then I hear this man speak and I believe theres hope that one day we will be able to put this mess where it belongs, in the past and move on with the future and make this country the great place it once was and could be again when we get rid of all of the haters that do their best to divide us as a people along lines of race, class or whatever. And it’s time for us to be honest Obama is the worst person in a position of power i’ve seen in my life time.

We, all of us patriots need to find out what colleges are teaching these new drone goons and who is behind it. We need names and photographs of these traitors. Also, we need patriotic physicists to instruct others on how to jam the drone’s communications links with the satellites. We might be able to convert a microwave oven to do that. Again, it takes knowledge. More than I have. But I know there are patriots out there that know how to do it. Watch out for the wild weasels though. And the man used the G (od) word and the C (hristianity) word. In public. In front of Satan and his wife. I wish I had his courage, cuz I’m afraid he just may “disappear”. or have to go into hiding

Uh oh…the Libs won’t like this one bit

….imagine the audacity of a black man escaping the Democrat plantation ….being fiercly independent, making something of himself ….and then speaking out in direct opposition to those who believe that his place in society is living in the ghetto and standing in the welfare line.

Nope, they ain’t gonna like this one bit. They are going to have to do something about this guy…what if others try to emmulate him? God forbid this could lead to a whole generation of African Americans getting off the plantation and becoming fiercely independent and successful.

Obama will hire him somewhere in his administration so they can start brain washing him into what they believe, they can’t let a black man have independent thought especially one that no one has heard about yet but once this gets out to every outlet that will let it, this man won’t be able to be touched.

That was one of the finest speeches I’ve ever heard. Pure wisdom from start to finish! I could not help but notice Obama’s nose was in the air most of the time and he held his applause throughout most of the speech. This guy makes Obama’s words and actions look like those of a fool.

The Tithe is Old Testament (Contract) so each child could understand equality. To whom much is given, much is required is limited to New Testament because only adults can understand nothing is equal.

The graduated income tax and the Homestead act (private property ownership) is responsible for most low and middle class prosperity in America.

The graduated income tax has slipped into theft by deception. It requires more from some and less from others. It fuels the fires of greed and societal division. It optimizes the amount of money sifted out of the economy but maximizes waste.

The graduated income tax is inherently unfair and therefore wrong, no matter what the perceived benefits. Same applies to turning a blind eye to illegal immigrants because they can be paid low wages and keep our food costs down. Financial prosperity is a great evil if it is gained on the backs of others. Rich people who make money honestly and share it generously are a great blessing. The others are a blight and will be a blight as long as they exist.

The scaled income tax is deigned to keep people from advancing. Try working overtime and see what happens to your tax rate. I am a home owner and I would happily give up the exemption to be able to pay a flat percentage of what I earn and not have to pay $70-$100 to buy a program to help me or pay a professional to do it.

If he was white he would be branded a racist and be fitted for cement loafers. If he hasn’t had a closet full of prostitutes and sexual harassment cases (Herman, you disappointed me), then maybe he can run on a libertarian ticket for Senate. Too bad the GOP doesn’t want his ideas in their party.

And IF you think that Romney and McCain are Conservative Republicans, I suggest you’d PLEASE read up on what that word means, or used to mean anyway. What this man espoused today is Conservatism.

The Republican party is dead. There are some (few) that we libertarian/conservative/teapartie wackjobs put in the House and Senate in the 2010 Mid-Terms. But allas, the NeoCon/Statists hijacked the voice of “we the people” at the Rep. primaries and again at the RNC. Better wake up and smell the coffee Ma’am, and I mean that respectfully. I was a Registered Republican since I cast my first vote for Reagan and it has gotten “progressively” worse ever since. After this last election I changed my registration to NPA. We will probably never have another Ronald Reagan, but we can do a whole lot better than the bunch of RINO’s we have vacationing in D.C. now. So in answer to your question ; pretty much everything the Doctor said goes against the Establishment Republicans in the beltway now…and I love the man for it. Dr. Carson is everything that the Republican party should be, but isn’t.
