It’s Been a Bad Week for Robbers in Detroit: Concealed Carry Holders Fight Back and Open Fire
Twice this week robbers in Detroit were shot by concealed carry holders who refused to be victims.
On Thursday night, a pair of teenagers approached two utility workers with the intention of robbing them. What the criminals didn’t know is one of the workers was a concealed carry holder. He pulled out his handgun and shot both teens, injuring them — one crucially and the other seriously.

“He’s protecting himself. I mean, he’s licensed to carry a concealed weapon, you know, so he knows what he’s doing,” said Denzel Williams, who heard the gun shots from a distance.
Last Friday, a high school basketball coach was walking two female players to their cars after practice when they were approached by two teen boys. The teenagers “announced a holdup” and grabbed the coach by his chain necklace and stuck something in his chest, WXYZ-TV reports. Police did not reveal if it was a gun.
After struggling with the teens for a period of time, the coach is able to get some distance between himself and his attackers. The 70-year-old coach then pulled out his concealed handgun and fired at the robbers, hitting both of them, one of them fatally.
Police say 16-year-old Michael Scott was killed in the botched robbery attempt. His 15-year-old accomplice was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Though the high school coach was initially taken into custody, a police source says the shooting appears to be a justified, self-defense homicide.

P. Saria – I find your scenario laughable because almost universally criminals have juvenile or other records preventing them from legally buying a gun or getting a CCW permit. The teenagers in question weren’t even 21 to buy a handgun. GUN BANS DON’T WORK because they only affect LAW ABIDING individuals. The Liberal “justice” system only creates a revolving door, just run the rap sheets of those involved (ignoring the parents or community organizer telling the media they were a “basketball star who was never in trouble before”

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 8:26amI live in a Detroit suburb. The training I got to get my carry permit was conducted by a Detroit cop. He passed along important tips. Dead men can’t testify (so if you gotta draw, make it count), it is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6, and most importantly- the phone number of the best attorney in the area if you have shot someone in self defense. It will take a generation- but Detroit may finally get it.
@Pete – The background check they conduct before issuing a permit would likely rule out the issuing of permits to most of the human debris that would do these crimes- besides, they are carrying illegally obtained arms- they don’t want to self identify…

What Noah_fing-whey said couldn’t be more true. But to explain what happens you have to put together the chain of consequences. What you say may happen in a few instances, but in the grand scheme the chain plays out like this… When criminals understand that they may not survive the encounter they end up being forced to cope with the fact that they will have to obtain money and goods legally. Their productive engagement in commerce benefits the economy. the reduced crime rate and improved economy serve to increase property values thereby improving the financial lot of the citizens which then attracts quality businesses, producing more labor demands. More labor demands command higher salaries, which in turn increases commerce and the economy. all this improvement reduces the need for people to turn to crime, lowering crime rates, raising property values, attracting business….
Or you can cry that it will never work, the criminals will just shoot us and give them the world to appease them.
As for me, I believe that the majority of those criminals that would escalate will mostly have found that a well armed citizenry will have removed them from the equation before they can shift the balance of power to the lawless.

This guy is paid to much or is from a wealthy family.Only the rich politicians, bodyguardes, bankers & CEO’s were to be licenesed since the city can’t run without such important people. Little people can be replaced on the turn of a dime. Since they won’t recognize my Oklahoma carry permit the city is on my NO FLY LIST. In a city with such high mugging & murders I would be the tourest of the day.

And to those that said more range time needed, YES INDEED, the only good robber is a dead one. Also, I would recommend to all CWP holders or those awaiting their permit GET SOME REAL LIFE personal defense training (close combat training), and some tactical weapons training, the courses are around $200 each, but every advantage you have at your disposal is one more chance you have to come out of it alive.
Also, if you go to a knife fight, expect to get cut, if you go to a gun fight, expect to be shot, if you know you are going down, go down like a man.

If a minority is harmed in anyway by a White, then the motive is always racism, so therefore the White American would rather just take the beating and robbery thus becoming the real victim. If people would just start yelling that from every house top and every street corner, maybe those in power might get the message. Notice I said ‘might’. But we won’t know until we try. All we’ve done thus far is talk back about our rights, and gripe about the feds wanting to ban all firearms…..we haven’t really came back with our own rallying cry. We should lambast them with a chorus of demands….if they take ours then they can’t have any either, including their henchmen!
It’s time to stop griping and start yelling (can’t be mealy mouthed) some strong accusations where they belong toward politicians, bureaucrats, law enforcement, military, kings, queens, dictators, tyrants…..whatever the hell they call themselves.

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 9:34amWith with all respect, it is uncomfortable and unwise (and potentially unsafe) to carry in your pocket; too many variables. Smarter move is to purchase a holster and practice proper withdrawal and shooting technique. I have a friend who carries her blue rubber replica gun and practices while she is watching tv–totally safe, no bullets and it trains muscle memory to properly respond in a crisis situation. Concealed carry also requires a responsiblity to be proficient to extremely raise the likelihood of stopping the threat and also minimize the chance the bad guy will take your weapon and use it on you. Those who would shove the gun in their pants risk shooting some valuable treasure… and I do not mean dollar bills. :)

It’s more effective against human flesh, sucks against solid cover, unlike the 7.62 which can go through a cinderblock wall like tissue paper. The 5.56 round likes to rattle around inside the human body, glancing off ribs and ripping new wound channels contrary to the entry wound’s path.

Street justice use to be you did not get what you wanted in court or from the police and then you took action. A person refusing to be a victim is not “street justice” is it common sense.

Posted on February 8, 2013 at 11:38pmWhile it is sad to see people so young die attempting to commit violent crime, I have trouble feeling very sorry for them.
If they had been studying/playing sports/video games/you name it instead of out committing violent crimes, they would be breathing or not full of holes in a hospital bed.
It’s terrible that kids this young are getting into armed robbery, but there is a risk involved in such activity, and some of them will pay a very, very high price for their misdeeds.
May they serve as a warning to others not to go down the road these kids chose to travel.

I guess the victim dead would have been just fine with you. The police can’t be everywhere (or in Detroit often times anywhere) .. it is up to citizens to take back the city from the THUGS. No matter what their age is .. how is the victim supposed to know the age of someone trying to do them harm?

I cannot and will not cry for anyone who chose the criminal path and gets killed in the process. I have been dirt poor, lived with drug addicts and could have went down that path. I made my choice and followed that path God put in front of me. I can forgive, I will lend a hand, but I will not shed tears for those who follow the path Satan lays in front of them.

Hard to fathom that Dr. Ben Carson came out of the same failed liberal playground, Detroit. God bless the utility worker and the coach who refused to be victims and God bless the people, who for economic reasons still have to stay in Detroit. Obviously, the criminals didn’t listen to former Mayor Coleman Young, who ordered them to hit 8 Mile road.
