It’s Been a Bad Week for Robbers in Detroit: Concealed Carry Holders Fight Back and Open Fire
Twice this week robbers in Detroit were shot by concealed carry holders who refused to be victims.
On Thursday night, a pair of teenagers approached two utility workers with the intention of robbing them. What the criminals didn’t know is one of the workers was a concealed carry holder. He pulled out his handgun and shot both teens, injuring them — one crucially and the other seriously.
“He’s protecting himself. I mean, he’s licensed to carry a concealed weapon, you know, so he knows what he’s doing,” said Denzel Williams, who heard the gun shots from a distance.
Last Friday, a high school basketball coach was walking two female players to their cars after practice when they were approached by two teen boys. The teenagers “announced a holdup” and grabbed the coach by his chain necklace and stuck something in his chest, WXYZ-TV reports. Police did not reveal if it was a gun.
After struggling with the teens for a period of time, the coach is able to get some distance between himself and his attackers. The 70-year-old coach then pulled out his concealed handgun and fired at the robbers, hitting both of them, one of them fatally.
Police say 16-year-old Michael Scott was killed in the botched robbery attempt. His 15-year-old accomplice was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Though the high school coach was initially taken into custody, a police source says the shooting appears to be a justified, self-defense homicide.

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 9:38amThat is how it works. Instant help that you are wearing. Calling the police when the robbery started would be a waste of time. Criminals are not the brightest bunch but they are not stupid about the prospect of getting killed over a few dollars or a watch.

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 9:28am@geneblister, WRONG. If you pull it, use it. Center mass, double tap with the intent to KILL. Dead men cant sue, dead men cant shoot back, dead men cant commit further crimes. Shoot to kill or keep it in your pocket.

They already have guns, they don’t bother with the permit. And bad guys with guns have been shooting innocent victims for a while now, so the only thing that will change is more good guys with guns will be better prepared to stop bad guys with guns. end of story.

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 9:13amPolice are hard to find in Detroit, heck in Michigan, so citizens must defend themselves. Last time I called the police they did not come and the dispatcher called me an hour and a half later and asked me if the guy was gone. I live in a rural area and some drunk, belligerent guy was thrown out of a moving car in front of my house at 3 am. He laid in the road yelling horrible things including “I am going to kill you” over and over again for an hour. My daughter and I sat up with guns and in the morning had to search our barns for the guy. Lucky for him, we did not find him. He walked off somewhere. So you must have the ability to defend yourself, you can’t rely on the police.

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 9:04amThere was no reason to arrest the CCW holder in the first place. When the cops shoot someone, they don’t arrest the cop, ever!

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 8:52amWhat the left will never admit is that a legally armed populace deters crime. There are literally thousands upon thousands of incidents evert year in this country. How often does the lame stream media report these legitimate uses of firearms in defense? The answer is very rarel, but a nut job or a crininal who uses a firearm is always reported.

I love the firearm pic above…a Springfield, probably in the 9mm or .40 caliber…maybe a .45. The beauty of that firearm is it’s capacity; it will hold between 16-19 rounds in the mag, plus one more in the chamber, making it a true equalizer in the event some whackjob comes into the theater where you are enjoying the show.

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 8:01amThe teenage robbers are the output of the NEA public school system run by totalitarian democrats. The new Core Curriculum is designed to lower standards and dumb down the population. By not educating the children they create unthinking and uncritical democrat totalitarian voters.

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 7:28amThese types of stories should be covered by MSM but I doubt it will because it doesn’t fit their progressive agenda.
If you want a good deterrent to crime then let the criminals know there are fatal consequences to their evil ways. When under attack, if your properly prepared, you (the victim) can be the judge, jury and executioner.

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 7:24amHey Pete Saira Your logic is wrong, criminals won’t get conceal carry because they have to be registered with police and would be denied.
Criminals prey on the old and weak. They are all a bunch of cowards when they are confronted
by someone who will fight back they either run like sissy’s, injured or killed.
That’s way chose the 70 year old coach

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 2:48am“Could the recent shootings be the start of an alarming trend”? Mr. Newscaster who said this is obviously ignorant, biased, a liberal or just a dumb city boy. The citizens of America are wise to take back their country from the bandits. Addressing Mr. Newscaster…is it better to lay down and become a victim or stand your ground and protect your constitutional freedoms? A great man once said “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Benjamin Franklin. Maybe Mr. Newscaster should invest a little time reading and more pointedly, hearing.

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 2:34amDon’t forget to spend a bit extra and get mag holsters for your belt, gang. If you’re carrying a semi auto and get a feed jam, broken mag spring, you have to eject that puppy and slap another one real quick. In fact, I drill at this with an empty weapon and mags, of course, containing nothing but Snap Caps.
If you can’t manage this….stick with a revolver….far less chance of any malfunction.
