Once You See the Video of a Skateboarder Setting Off a Speed Camera at 68 MPH You’ll Realize Why Cops Are Looking for Him
It’s not just the video showing South African skateboarder Decio Lourenco speeding downhill in and out of traffic on a busy road that has him in hot water with authorities. He apparently set off a speed camera in a 60 kilometers per hour zone (about 37 miles per hour) going 110 km/h (68 mph).
Lourenco could face arrest.

“We have handed over the matter to traffic officials and want him arrested,” JP Smith, a Cape Town safety and security official, told Reuters.
“The speed limit is irrelevant. He is seen careering down the road in a reckless and dangerous manner.”
The road Lourenco was zipping down is called Kloof Nek and is sometimes closed and used for extreme skateboarding events. The law in the city, according to Reuters, does not otherwise allow skateboarding on the road.

Here’s what the National Skate Collective, a nonprofit in South Africa that serves support skaters and skateboarding initiatives, said on Facebook “the city is trying to shut us down. They want to arrest one of our own, Decio!”
“What do you think we should do? Mass action? More meetings?” the post continued.
Watch Lourenco’s dangerous “Spoofing the Traffic Camera — Longboard Without Limits” stunt, which has garnered more than 500,000 views since being posted on YouTube Jan. 26:
The video bears the description that the skater is “a highly trained professional” and that the group “insists that no-one [attempt] to perform this stunt.”

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 12:40pmWere the authorities looking at the same video that is posted on this page? I saw no recklessness, only highly controlled professional maneuvering that did not include weaving in and out of traffic. The (body close to the pave) shots were controlled maneuvers to kill speed in preparation for a turn. Cite him for speeding, but nothing else.

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 12:06pmYep the libs are already trying to kill this video, global safety laws guaranteed to make certain that there is nothing in society worth keeping. They must not study psychology much because, once apathy starts then so too does indifference to things like State operated genocide, eventually the dangerous nuts with WMD’s don’t care anymore and start using their weapons for fun. That’s been shown in quite a few science fiction distopias. They need to keep those with radical tenancies having FUN! From history it’s very scary when they put their minds to war or destruction.

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 10:51amSkateboarding is a great sport in a controlled environment. Teen boys love it. It requires strength, endurance, perserverance, concentration and competition. All the things that need to be exercised in growing boys. The energy and testosterone used in developing the skill leaves little time and energy for drugs and other mayhem. Bravo to the Skateboarding Initiative!

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 3:10amI remember when I was a kid in the early 80′s there were cops in my neighborhood with a speed trap. We bugged them to clock us on our bikes going down hill. I think I got to about 35 mph on my Bike, My friend got over 40! The cops were really cool but that was a different time. That kid in the video is AWESOME. The only thing I would worry about is the High Speed wobbles. Once that starts happening your up a creek. I never went that fast but we didn’t have hills like that growing up. I am sure if we did we would have been doing the same thing. It’s good to see people with a sense of adventure. That’s what life is, an adventure.

Posted on February 9, 2013 at 12:52amActually, Blaze I don’t understand why cops are looking for him.
Ok, I do understand, because we’re living in a world-wide police state where any self-expression is swiftly becoming discouraged or forbidden. But in a rational world, there would be no reason for the cops to be looking for him. It was a supreme expose of athleticism and adrenaline. Absolutely amazing. Perhaps stupid, but hey: he knows the risks, he’s not putting anyone but himself in danger, and he chooses to do it anyway. Live and let live.

Posted on February 8, 2013 at 9:27pmFirst thing I noticed was how nice their roads we’re compared 2 our roads here in bankrupt California. But thats not saying much considering our pot holed roads are killing more people than guns. Our roads are worse than even Mexicos!!!! No joke!!! They really are worse than that third world country now!! Couldnt skateboard or even bike here if we wanted to like that video.

Posted on February 8, 2013 at 9:16pmWhat are you going to do if his skateboard wheel pops off, and he is heading out of control into your late, when you are driving your car? Are you going to:
1. Plow into him, he deserves it?
2. Veer into the sidewalk, possibly killing pedestrians?
3. Veer into another car, killing yourself, a mother and her two kids?
4. Don’t use your head, just laugh about this, and drink a beer?
