Tony Bennett’s Confusing Gun Theory: We Need Gun Control to Prevent Times Like When the Nazis ‘Came Over and Created Tragic Things’

During a Wednesday press conference, singer Tony Bennett invoked a Nazi reference to preach gun control. But take a listen and see if you can figure out exactly what he’s saying:

Here’s a transcript:

QUESTION: How important do you believe it is to solve the problem of possible mental illness from some people and prevent the shootings before it happened and how do you think the industry of entertainment also can fulfill to create a new generations of young people that are not so sensitive to this type of tragedy?

BENNET: Well, we should just care for our children so much and make sure that… my own children were told just don’t ever have a gun.Β  No guns in my house, they’re not allowed. And I just believe that assault weapons, they were invented for war, they shouldn’t be on our streets here.

It’s the kind of turn that happened to the great country of Germany, when Nazis came over and created tragic things and they had to be told off. And if we continue this kind of violence and accept it in our country, the rest of the world is going to really take care of us in a very bad way.

We should learn that we’re the greatest country because we are all different nationalities and all different religions and we should show the rest of the world how to behave. Thank you.

Clear?

“Tony Bennett is apparently unaware that the Nazi party was actually created in Germany and did not ‘come over’ from some other country,” Newsbusters writes. “He also is apparently unaware that gun control laws were one of the many restrictions placed upon citizens under Nazi domination.”

Later in the day, Bennett was asked about the comment by Wolf Blitzer — and it didn’t get much better (that parts starts at about four minutes):

Better?

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

      @ CABERNETQHS

Sadly I agree. I lost my father a few weeks ago and, while he did not lose his mental faculties, he did find it difficult to concentrate and to voice an opinion on a complex subject.

I recognise a little bit of this in Mr Bennet and I think that it’s a little sad. His son made a good attempt to protect him and to make coherent explanation of his views, but the truth is obvious.

We shouldn’t mock him because sadly we are all mortal and this will come to all of us also in one form or another.

I do think that it was rather cruel and self-serving of the anti-gun crowd to wheel Mr Bennet into the front lines of this particular battle, but that is their nature.

As an aside; I thought that the facial espressions of the two women to the right of Mr Bennet (in the medium close-up shot) advertised their probable character…

Well i’m long since tired of being lectured to on anything by celebrities/entertainers – most who probably don’t even have a GED. But at least give him the benefit of the doubt with the excuse of dementia/senility. He was a combat infantryman in WW2 europe, but he apparently cannot recall anything of the day and what exactly nazi germany did and how they were able to do it (disarming or confiscation, especially for the less desirable).
And I’m sure he was around lots of guns when he started to make a name for himself, considering the company he kept and who they were associated with (sinatra). And I doubt any of those guns were legally obtained, probably most had the serial numbers ground off – drop guns you know? In case someone had to disappear in the desert

Hitler took guns away from Germans and Jews. Germans and Jews handed over their guns before they knew what the Nazis planned on doing. The only Jews who survived were those few who kept their guns and hid out in the mountains.

I don’t know if they’re missing Tony yet at ‘Shady Pines’, but there is an ‘all points’ out on some nutty doofus who claims to be their ‘Sensi’. Apparently the person has not been well for a long time and was initially picked up while running around in one of those goofy female body part Code Pink costumes. When originally captured, he was mumbling something about: “sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t.” I think he was originally apprehended in an adult book store, in the novelty section, trying to pleasure himself with a noisy marital aid.

Froggy, this is much more complicated than you think.

Jews who owned guns were generally able to keep them until 1938, when they were prohibited–to Jews and Jews only.

The general idea was that bearing arms requires “honor,” something Jews supposedly lacked. At the time, Nazi policy was to make life so miserable for German Jews that they would–to coin a phrase–”self-deport,” leaving behind all their assets including weapons.

The Holocaust as we understand it–systematic extermination of all Jews–did not really take hold until 1941, by which time not only Jews but non-Jews had been disarmed–in Poland, France, need I go on?

Armed occupation usually requires disarming the locals, in Iraq in 2003 or in France in 1940, and even so, French farmers were able to keep guns used for shooting–how do you say “pesky varmints” in French?

Germans, meanwhile, were positively encouraged to take up firearms, for manly sport and, of course, to prepare them for war.

Hitler did not need to rely on gun control to maintain power, since he had the Gestapo and a civil society which had simply been devoured by his party, mostly by intimidation without actual use of force.

He’d had an armed party militia since 1920, and so long as he gave his generals rearmament and the prospect of avenging 1918, he could rely on the military.

Ordinary Germans could plink away so long as they could not form a political opposition.

In real terms, the Nazi war against the Jews of Germany and other German-occupied areas would have required a much larger commitment of manpower and resources had the Jews been well armed. It would not have saved very many Jewish lives, but the war would have ended sooner, as fewer resources would have been available for the fronts. No question that the Nazi commitment to the Final Solution would have trumped even the war effort against the allies.

Tony’s minders would do well to keep him away from interviews. I don’t think his mental faculties are as sharp as they need to be for such things.

Either that or he’s trying to hang on to what’s left of his legacy. Bennett was a crappy entertainer then and a crappy spokesperson now.

The limits of stupidness of the Kenyan King Cult knows no bounds.

I hereby make a call for MORE guns. We would save hundreds of billions of dollars
incarcerating parasitic maggots for life if we went back to the cowboy justice system.
I would bet my own life that the crime rate would drop like a stone.

If we executed all violent criminals and more law abiding citizens were armed we would have a safer society that’s for sure. These ‘gun laws’ are designed for one purpose,to keep guns out of the hands of the already law abiding citizen. Our public indoctrination centers are churning out brain dead pansies incapable of defending themselves and brow beaten to not express their opinions,it’s enough to **** off the pope.

Tony is obviously in early alzheimers the first thing the nazis did was unarm the population. There by eliminating their ability to resist. And they told them it was for the safety of the german people and Hitler publicized the policy while standing with a group of German children……reminds me of someone else

Don’t be too hard on the troll…see he’s “forced” to keep coming up with all these names for himself. He deserves some pity the poor wretch.

WANG FOR BRAINS, LOL, Nice try, but, it seems to be you who brings that up all too often. As I responded to you on another post, I am in no way like you or your fantasies. As for Alabama, I have not lived here all of my life. But, if you are fantasizing about being a Hollyweird designed Georgia hillbilly, its too late, Deliverance was already made a long time ago. Drool much over the thought of Ned Beatty’s backside?

I don’t think Tony ever had one to leave there (a brain in San Fran). Judging from the nutty people that live in San Fran, old Tony left a steamy fa-heart there and has been proudly singing about it for years. Look at Blinkie Pelosi. She’s from there, and she not only looks high off something, it’s probably why she’s nuttier than a fruitcake. Plus, methan is the leading cause of halitosis. Have you ever gotten a load of Peloi’s rotten breath. Stand back. Now that’s a weapon that should be banned.
