‘Unacceptable’: Teacher Suspended After Allegedly Pouring Pencil Shavings Into Student’s Mouth

Marquis Jay, Arlington Student, Says Teacher Poured Pencil Shavings Into His Mouth

(Photo: CBS11)

13-year-old Marquis Jay was sitting in his 8th grade class at Boles Jr. High School in Arlington, Texas when he says a teacher punished him by pouring pencil shavings into his mouth.

Jay explained that he was slouching and leaning with his head back and mouth open when the teacher tossed in the wooden shavings, but says that’s hardly a sufficient justification.

His mother, Deidre Brown, added for CBS 11: “I wanted to cry because it was like how could she do that…What kind of message is it sending to the kids? She is supposed to be the teacher – the adult.”

Jay says the woman wasn’t even his regular teacher, but someone who swung by to help ease the burden in their classroom.

According to CBS 11, the school’s director of communications said:

“This incident is unacceptable and was immediately and fully investigated by the AISD when it occurred almost a month ago. The district took appropriate disciplinary action…The school has been in constant communication with the student’s mother about this incident and other matters. At no time has mom expressed any concerns about the manner in which this situation was handled to the school or the district.”  [Emphasis added]

But according to a Friday report, the mom doesn’t quite agree.  The teacher was reportedly suspended and asked to apologize, but Brown would’ve preferred to see her fired.

“I don’t even think she should be teaching if she can’t have the patience to not know that’s not something she is not supposed to do,” Brown concluded.

The parent asked wha kind of message does it send to the students, How about sit up straight, no sleeping and keep your mouth shut and we need more teachers like her, don’t suspend her give her a raise. Maybe the parents should be more involved in the kids life and get them in bed at a earlier hour so he gets plenty of sleep.

I guarantee you there’s more to this story. I wouldn’t be surprised if this kid was mouthing off to the teacher being disrespectful, like most of them kids are these days. When I went to school, kids got paddled all the time for acting stupid and there wasn’t one of them that didn’t deserve it. There are no scars left from that either emotional or physical. Political pansy correctness is breeding a generation of disrespectful pieces of s**t.

Mamma needs to put her 13 year old boy to bed at a decent hour so that he is not falling asleep in class. Teacher shouldn’t have done that.

Had that been my kid bedtime would have been moved up and teacher & probably principal would have been talked to but not the media.

While in a college class of about 300 students I once awoke to the sound of the teacher instucting the class from right next to me. And I was sitting toward the back of the lecture hall. I was mortified and it was the right thing for the teacher to do. I worked my way through college so there wasn’t always time for enough sleep.

It is typical that if the student is disrespectful, the parent is disrespectful. Instead of condemning the teacher, he/she should be congratulated on a well placed shot with the pencil shavings.

I had some good parents and some BAD TEACHERS! Some times a kid is “defending” himself against such teachers and when I went to school teachers ruled with too much power. Hitting kids. Slapping kids. Paddling kids. I don’t know what this kid said or did. But, there is NO excuse to put pencil shavings in a kid’s mouth. The kid could have choked or worse. There are PLENTY of BAD TEACHERS where kids are pushing back to defend themselves. Yet they are sent to the principal’s office and never believed. This disgusting public school system PROTECTS ******* teachers like the one above because any teacher who would do that to a kid is a straight up A$$wipe! I battled BAD TEACHERS all my life in school. My parents taught me to stand up for myself and if any adult messed with me I was to defend myself. I never once went to the principals office. EVER! I questioned my teachers. I framed my arguments this way. My parents were never called because
they taught me since I was little to handle my own business. I don’t know this kid but I know so many kids in school who were abused by teachers because they could. I saw so many kids expelled for just defending themselves. They were all labeled “trouble makers” by teachers. Not one single teacher messed with me. They knew better. They knew I meant business. I had my arguments down pat for my lessons. I was prepared with my schooling. There are tons of kids labeled “disrespectful” when they are defending themselves against abuse.

The young man had his “head back and mouth open”. He was asleep.

This seems to be a fairly light-hearted way of pointing out the error of his ways. He was uninjured, except for his pride.

Instead of changing his behaviour and his contempt for his teachers, he went home and told his mother. Is this the sort of behaviour that one wants to instil in one’s children?

Does his mother support the teachers who are struggling to educate her young while they openly sleep in the classroom? No, she demands that the teacher forfeit her job.

These are immature, impressionable young minds that are being handed considerable power over teachers and other adults.

Do you think that the lazy and insolent won’t use it?

Do you think that this doesn’t reinforce the sense of entitlement and immunity from consequences that is blighting the lives of the young?

My eldest daughter was difficult to handle when she started school. I told the teachers that I would support them 100% in any punishment for bad behaviour, including smacking if necessary. (They didn’t smack her.)

As soon as she realised that she couldn’t worm her way out of the consequences of her behaviour, she settled down and started to work.

Now, at the age of six and a half, her reading ability is a full year above her age. She has a passion for learning that and other abilities that make my heart soar with pride.

    Her teachers did that…
