On Thursday, Duke University basketball players redeemed themselves after an earlier loss in the season to North Carolina State University, but their 98-85 win isn’t what’s being talked about now. A chant by Duke fans that is being interpreted as insensitive to an NC State player is causing a stir.
While freshman guard Tyler Lewis stepped up to the free-throw line, Duke supporters began taunting him. It’s unclear exactly what they were chanting but theories include “past your bedtime” and “how’s your grandma?” The bedtime reference would be alluding to Lewis’ young age and appearance, but if they were changing about Lewis’ grandmother, some think they might have crossed the line.
Lewis’ grandmother died on Feb. 1.

Lewis’ father, Rick, was in the crowd Thursday night and told the News & Observer that there was a moment when this insensitive chanting about his mother occurred, but “it was mostly ‘past your bedtime.’”
“It wasn’t the entire student section, I think a few tried to outdo themselves.” Lewis added to the News & Observer.
SB Nation’s Mike Rutherford’s analysis of the chatting though yielded this thought:
It’s sort of insane that Duke fans are begging folks to believe that they were chanting “past your bedtime,” since that’s maybe the lamest and least creative cheer I can think of.

Feb. 10, 2013 at 9:37pmAnd for all of you who think Duke is just for rich liberals, my son earned an academic scholarship to be able to go to Duke, works a job four days a week to cover that scholarship, and graduated from a military high school, owns a Webley 45, Rem Springfield 30-06, and knows more military history than most of these jokes being put up for Cabinet posts. Whether Duke is liberal or not, the fact is, my son earned his chance to study at a great institution and good on him.

I was at a NC State game several years ago, and the State student section was really on a player whose grandfather had recently passed away. So this is not anything new for these idiots.

I feel sure that the EYE WITNESSES PRESENT–like THE DAD, can judge effectively what was going on. They were IN the BUILDING, GOT “the vibe”. Was “MIKEY” (“give it to Mikey he hates everything”) over at SB Nation IN THE BUILDING? If not his ANALYSIS ain’t worth Sheite, now is it?

Compare that to the Big Black Driver choking NordiChicks.
2. UVA Wahoos, as you would expect from Mr. Jefferson’s University, have the Most Clever, Most Articulate and Erudite, the Most Witty, AND MOST BRUTALLY EFFECTIVE Taunts For All Occasions in the ACC. They could whup the French in Monty Python and The Holy Grail.
Oh and the News and Observer is the RALEIGH paper.
