Dr. Benjamin Carson gave a wide-ranging interview on his background, political philosophy, ambitions, and celebrated National Prayer Breakfast speech on political correctness and the expansion of government, during an appearance on Fox News Sunday morning.
When asked if he is interested in ever getting involved in politics, the Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient and world-renowned neurosurgeon said “I dont have an inherent interested in doing it, but I will go where god wants me to go.”
Video of Carson’s speech in front of the president at the prayer breakfast has gone viral. In his remarks Carson attacked political correctness as a “dangerous” threat to free speech and encouraged Americans to boldly share their views.
“I’m not a Democrat, I’m not a Republican, I’m an independent,” Carson said Sunday. “If there was a party called the logic party I would be a member of that.”
During his appearance on Fox Sunday, Carson criticized the political landscape where so many things are ideologically driven in Washington D.C., and a fourth branch of government contends for power: special interests.
“We’ve gotten away from doing things for the people and accepted a system entrenched in corruption,” Carson said. “Every great nation, before it’s fall, has tolerated corruption. We have to deal with this.”
Carson said Sunday that his views and success can be credited to his Mother, who never gave up on him and “never became a victim herself.”
“We need to abolish the victim mentality, and get people reved up again. This is a can-do nation.”
Carson said that a system that rewards the victim mentality is antithetical to societal success.
“We need leadership that unites people, not leadership that divides it.”
