The head of President Obama’s Small Business Administration on Monday announced that she will not stay on for a second term.

“After four years as Administrator of the SBA, I have let President Obama know that I will not be staying for a second term. I will stay on until my successor is confirmed to ensure a smooth and seamless transition,” said Karen Mills in a statement posted to the agency’s website.

For those of you unfamiliar with the agency, the SBA arranges loans, loan guarantees and other assistance to small businesses. Most recently, the SBA stepped in to assist businesses hurt by Superstorm Sandy, approving more than $1.1 billion in disaster loans to residents and businesses in states affected by the storm.

In a statement Monday, Obama applauded Mills for “making it easier for small businesses to interact with the federal government”:

I want to thank Administrator Mills for her outstanding work on behalf of America’s small business owners and entrepreneurs. I asked Karen to lead the Small Business Administration because I knew she had the skills and experience to help America’s small businesses recover from the worst economic crisis in generations — and that’s exactly what she’s done.

Over the last four years, Karen has made it easier for small businesses to interact with the federal government by reducing paperwork and cutting through red tape. She has played a leading role in my Administration’s efforts to support start-ups and entrepreneurs.

And she was instrumental in the passage of the Small Business Jobs Act.

Because of Karen’s hard work and dedication, our small businesses are better positioned to create jobs and our entire economy is stronger. I want to thank Karen and am grateful for her service.

Mills is the latest executive branch official to leave at the beginning of the president’s second term.

She joins Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Labor Secretary Hilda L. Solis, EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, and Energy Secretary Steve Chu in saying “no thanks” to a second term with President Barack Obama.

Mills has served as SBA administrator since 2009.

  I’m wondering exactly what the SBA did other than offer assistance with HEAVY strings to small businesses? Nothing. Seems to me Ms. Mills is probably bored with doing nothing all day. Posts like this are another of our deficit problems.

  I’ll tell you why, if you haven’t noticed, the articles here on this site are mostly fluff. No hard hitting news here any longer. I don’t know if its Glenns way of desensitizing us or if he is just doing it to get us mad. Either way, you better go to the dredge or some other place to get hard line stories now days.
  Pretty hard to critisize and bemoan when there is no teeth in the article.

none of this matters… the President will merely appoint someone equally unable to see reality to the post and continue with his agenda.

After SecState, SecDef, SecT, DHS, and HUD the rest are minor players, anyway. Making an issue of it smacks of ‘what is the other hand doing’

how many new executive orders will come out while the press mulls who will takeover this position.

We see small businesses failing left and right and she “helped them”! The direction of this economy (down) is not helping any if the small businesses. All they have done is more rules and more regulations. Then add how much obamacare will hurt small businesses too.

It is all a tactical move. Leave the post before the heat comes down. Then, when the investigations start, they will be long gone, unreachable, etc. etc. Just like Benghazi. They are playing this like a game of chess.

I like the comment that they are leaving because they do not want to be tainted with what they expect to happen in the next 4 years. Does anyone know if the changing of cabinet members is common with 2 term Presidents? Does this mean we are about to the the “second string” players?

A little quick investigation to your question is this common for 2nd term presidents yielded discussion on NPR’s Talk of the Nation on 12/12/12: Paul Light of NYU’s Wagner School of Public Services says that these departures of close cabinet members are precedent setting or near precedent setting.   Ok so what did you think of the clown who’s policies and failures actually trashed the economy, led to the bank bailout and left a $1.2 billion run rate deficit and the worst recession since the great depression when he left office. You keep focusing on the PRESIDENT who you obviously don’t like while military contractors, infrastructure companies, IT companies, big banks, big pharma and the wealthy people behind them keep using the federal government as an ATM. You rant about food stamps but don’t realize it is not the poor who lobbies for food stamps, but the food producers and food suppliers. Follow the money and stop trying to put forth the notion that it really matters who sits in the oval office.

  @Jrook – You are correct in your assumption that I do not like the current president, in fact I despise him. You can point the finger where ever you will. More than 4 years in, as evidenced by your post, George Bush is still to blame in your feeble mind. This country used to deserve a leader as president- but the mass of the populace- yourself included- have become so dumbed down and dependent, that you can’t think for yourself. So we end up with the likes of Obama- who has never led ANYTHING- as our leader. Any student of history can see where his policies will lead us and it ain’t good, but with the progressive educational agenda in the schools I would not expect that most have learned any history.

  I know MANY small business owners. I am one myself.
  No one I know has EVER taken a small business “loan” from the SBA

  LIE.
  Nothing has changed or improved. NOTHING.
  The economy IS WORSE than 2009 = more debt, more regulation, more uncertainty
