Dr. Ben Carson Fires Back at Critics: ‘Somebody Has to Be Courageous Enough to Stand Up to the Bullies’
Dr. Benjamin Carson won over conservatives when he railed against many of the big government policies endorsed by President Barack Obama during the National Prayer Breakfast last week, at which the president was in attendance.
However, the newly discovered conservative hero is also getting his first taste of criticism from the left who say his speech was inappropriate and even offensive. On Monday, he appeared on Fox News’ “Your World” with Neil Cavuto to respond to his critics.
“What we need to do is we need to be able to discuss intelligent ways of solving the multitude of problems that threatens to destroy our nation. And there are a group of people who would like to silence everybody and have everybody go along to get along, but that’s not going to be very helpful for us in the long run,” Carson said.
“Somebody has to be courageous enough to stand up to the bullies,” he added.
When asked why he took it upon himself to go “beyond medical policy” and address issues like tax policy, Carson went back to the Declaration of Independence to make his point.
“One of the things I also said during the speech, there will be some people who will say, but you’re a doctor and you’re a surgeon. You should be sticking to that,” Carson explained. “And I mentioned the fact that five physicians signed the Declaration of Independence and were involved in the framing of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and several other things.”
He continued: “There’s absolutely no reason at all that physicians, scientists, shouldn’t be involved in things that affect all of us. We’re people who’ve learned how to make decisions based on facts, empirical data, rather than on ideology. And one of the geniuses — one of the real things that made us a great nation — is that we brought people from all backgrounds into the legislative process.”
Watch the segment via Fox News/Mediaite below:
The doctor also said the support for President Obama’s health care law is low within the medical community.
“I know a lot of doctors. I work with a lot of doctors, and I didn’t find a lot of support for it. I find a lot of people who were really quite disappointed,” he said. “It’s an expansion of the bureaucracy.”
And of course, Cavuto couldn’t help but ask him about a possible 2016 run for president. Fox News host Sean Hannity asked the doctor the same thing.
“I’ve had people telling me that for many years now. If I had a nickel for everybody who told me that, I could finance my campaign,” Carson joked. “I’ve always said if God grabs me by the collar and sticks me in that arena, that’s the only way that I’ll do it.”
Finally, the renown neurosurgeon announced that he plans to retire from surgery in June to teach, because “an uneducated populace will fall for anything” and knowledge is so important in understanding the problems facing America.

Answer – No – I live in AZ and voted for Jeff Flake…he lived up to his name. Ran as a conservative, immediately got in to office and showed his true colors. I changed my party affiliation to Independent after being registered as a Republican for 30 years. I am done with men who lie to me to get my vote and who have no conviction once in Washington. I would rather vote for a sure loser than a winner who goes along to get along. I may as well have voted Democrat because that’s exactly how my senator and rep vote.

I am sure you visit sites like Move On and the Huff Post. The hate and vitriol on those sites is astounding, and overwhelming. It is impossible to say that there just a few left wing morons. I find that looking at events realistically is not being paranoid. I do find that having Americans worth 40% less than they were 5 years ago, and having Politicians get up and say the economy is in great shape, and getting re-elected by gullible lefties, a little hard to understand. Or how about blaming the big snow storm on Global warming, and in the same sentence saying that there has not been this bad of a storm since 1885. I wonder if they talked about getting rid of SUV’s and incandescent light bulbs in 1885. “How do you argue against that lack of logic”

Funny how you talk about people putting money in gold and such. Have you heard lately about China and Russia’s gold supplies? Do you honestly think that when the dollar collapses that everything is going to be hunky dory? Don’t kid yourself that Obama has some kind of magic dust to keep that from happening, because he doesn’t even have a clue. Yea printing 1.6 trillion dollars to pay t-bill holders is a magnificent plan. We as a country are the largest ponzi scheme ever created and it will collapse just like all the others.

That reason and logic lends itself to leftist thinking? When you think about blacks living in city slums who came out in droves for Obama because they demand more government cheese and they like brown skin, do you think them terribly wise? Do you think they even have a clue as to how our government or economy functions? When you think of all the hispanic voters (many of them 1st or 2nd gen Americans and many whom don’t even speak english) do you think them terribly well educated? When you consider all the highschool and college age voters who lack real world experience and true understanding, who have been fed liberal propaganda from Hollywood and Unionized teachers/professors do you think ‘logic’ and ‘reason’? When you consider all the unmarried women, many of which subscribe to the tennants of modern femanism, do you think ‘logic’ and ‘reason’? If we engagued in a logical discussion about tax policy, debt, gun rights, abortion etc. the leftist agenda would be dismantled. That is why they specialize in character assassination, and the control of messaging. Where conservative principals are introduced and allowed to flourish they succeed.

Posted on February 12, 2013 at 7:09amThomas Jefferson is a mere man. He is not the authority on all things, especially once he begins to dabble in theology. His assertion that our neighbors lack of faith and Godless lifestyle will do no damage is false.
Christianity does not teach forced conversion, however we are called to love our neighbor and to make desciples of all nations testifying to the name of our Savior Jesus/Yeshua. Words and actions reverberate through our spheres of influence. If a man lives in wickedness apart from Christ’s forgiveness, the consequence of his actions are both temporary and eternal. They will impact the lives of those around him. This is why we are called to warn others, if they openly reject the truth, we are to have nothing to do with them.

Posted on February 12, 2013 at 7:37amWe are currently experiencing how our neighbors own Godlessness will pick your pocket and do you bodily harm. Ask Christ or the Apostles if their neighbors Godlessness did them harm in this world! The Godlessness of Israel and Rome literally broke Christ’s legs. Both the Old Testiment and New Testiment make it clear that God will punish nations for their acts of Godlessness. Remember ‘Blessed is the nation whos God is the Lord’ Psalm 33:12. Conversion not by force, but born of free will and devine providence. We must revive these people from their slumber. ‘Awake sleeper rise from the dead that Christ may shine on you.’
As for Dr. Carson, I do not subscribe to 7th day doctrine, but given the option I would support him over the progressive agenda.

He had no problem with ‘freedom of religion’ that right for anyone to have any belief, as long as those religions didn’t force him through the government to pick his pocket or breaks his leg.
Yes, he was very critical of anyone with beliefs or not beliefs that tried to use their philosophies to control others.
What you see now, are people trying to use their religions or lack of religion to enforce their views on others, to create taxes, or commit fraud, war, etc.

Posted on February 11, 2013 at 11:14pmThe liberals hate anybody smarter than they are, they want sheep. To hear and obey their every little whim. Dr. Carson is smart enough to out wit the witless. Liberals aren’t use to somebody challenging them.

Posted on February 11, 2013 at 11:37pmI think they hate Truth and Reality even more. Plenty of them are intelligent (although you wouldn’t know it to hear them talk), but most of them don’t seem to be able to accept the Truth or the Reality that supports it.

Posted on February 12, 2013 at 10:38am@PGHPatriot and Denkat56, You two are funny. You’ve decided a whole bunch of things about Liberals, but you don’t seem to have ever talked to one of us. Really, it says more about you than it says about me. I don’t hate Conservatives. I’m exceedingly fond of facts and reality, but “truth” is something I leave to philosophy classes. I believe in facts and they have a well-known Liberal bias. Actually, Liberals don’t like sheeple, we prefer people who can argue their points with logic and verifiable facts. And we relish challenges. Liberal’s opinion don’t generally fit on bumper stickers or signs and we often have competing agendas; you have to listen closely to figure out what’s really going on. Denkat, I’m so glad you find Liberals intelligent. It’s often hard to come to that conclusion about the TeaParty, their signs are so misspelled and their syntax is often as garbled as their imagery.
I think I’d heard of Dr. Carson before today. I think I heard about him when he published his first book in 1990. I haven’t heard or seen anything written against him. Most Liberals don’t pay the National Prayer Breakfast any mind at all. Huffington Post and Media Matters did not cover his speech or President Obama’s (non)reaction to it. The only negative press was the stuff Cavuto invented for his interview.

Posted on February 11, 2013 at 11:12pmI love what the man has said so far I just need to hear the rest of his policy, so to speak. I worry that even if he is the perfect conservative candidate that unless he has a solid foreign policy someone like Hillary will eat him up. While, if that were to come true, that wouldn’t bother me one bit but the media will make it a big deal and the lemmings will do as they’re told when they go to the polls.
A lot of our foreign policy would take care of itself if we we financially solid, especially since the rest of the world is in financial meltdown. It’s a real shame. We had the opportunity to become an unprecedented power in the world and blew it because of our debt.

Posted on February 11, 2013 at 11:27pmHe’s not a politician, so he’s probably weak on foreign policy, however, probably more than makes up for it with Common Sense.

Are you kidding me? Obama was and is clueless on foreign policy……..as he is clueless on most everything. He is a community organizer/activist with zero credentials to be POTUS.

Posted on February 12, 2013 at 12:15amHaggard Hilliary and her Benghazi debaucle will not fade in time for 2016. There are too many still unanswered questions to give her a pass. My money would be on the good Dr.

Posted on February 12, 2013 at 4:09amRead his book, he has common sense ideas on foreign policy as well. He is not a neocon, but he’s not isolationist either. He’s closer to Thomas Jefferson in the issue. If you must fight for national defense, fight to end it quickly and get out. Don’t go around trying to police all the nations and stretching the military thin.

Posted on February 12, 2013 at 4:29amAlso foreign policy should be based on ‘complete knowledge and accurate information’. The fact is Ben Carson knows how it important it is to learn about foreign nations before deciding any actions for or against them.
He also understands that you need to surround yourself with experts in the fields, not just any political doner that tried to buy a seat.
Seriously, I’m pretty sure he could debate Hillary, and could debate her well. The thing he’d be blunt about it, clear and concise, while hillary tries to do the run around like she has done with Benghazi…

Posted on February 12, 2013 at 10:22amI agree that he’s a doctor not a politician. I also agree the man has more common sense in his little finger nail than Obama. I would trust him to learn what needs to be learned so he could construct a common sense national policy.
UTAHCATHOLIC: Comparing Dr. Carson to Obama isn’t the subject here and in the next election the comparison isn’t even an issue. I believe the dems will run Hillary. Will Benghazi come back to haunt her, I don’t think so. The last two debates took place right after Benghazi and had no affect on Obama even though the events were fresh in the mind of people.
We should be doing what the left does and start now devising a strategy around destroying Hillary as much as she can be destroyed. You know the left is already digging into Dr. Carson for anything they can find.

Posted on February 12, 2013 at 4:22amHe doesn’t consider himself ‘liberal’ or ‘conservative’ either. He just believes in ‘common sense’. He also believes you need true liberals and true conservatives in order to have proper ‘dialogue’ (dialogue needs to be open with no one trying to silence the other). Too much of one or the other could lead to tyrrany.
When he said an eagle has a right wing and a left wing, that basically describes his viewpoint.
He is completely against communist/socialist/marxist form of “liberalism”.
