Outrageous Traffic Jam Caused by a Fiat 500 Making a U-Turn Involves Motorcycle Gang, a Religious Procession and Angry Italians
Have you ever had that feeling of driver’s distress when you’re trying to parallel park and then a car comes up behind you, pressuring you to get it right on the first try — and quickly? The driver of this Fiat 500 trying to make a U-turn in a tiny car-lined street in Napels, Italy, is sure to know the feeling.

(Image: YouTube screenshot)
At first he is just doing his thing — making progress inch-by-inch in the many point turn it would end up being before he turned himself around — then a car comes up on one side, adding some pressure.

(Image: YouTube screenshot)
Within a few moments another car boxes him in on the other side.

(Image: YouTube screenshot)
Then the stress-inducing honking starts and gawkers are brought to the scene to more stress.

In less than two minutes, more cars begin to box everyone in and more spectators come out. In their defense, some people eventually start trying to help direct the Fiat driver.
Then — and you can’t make this up — a motorcycle gang shows up. Then there’s a lot of Italian yelling.

(Image: YouTube screenshot)
If you thought the motorcycle gang was about as crazy as the whole backup would get — think again. Enter a religious procession.

Midway through, the person filming the situation decides to leave his bird’s-eye-view and go down among the chaos. There he captures more in-your-face Italian yelling and honking.

It is Pastor Dan that the YouTube description attributes to saving the day. (Image: YouTube screenshot)

Although everyone was so mad at the Fiat driver for causing such a mess, they were all so excited when he finally was able to unstuck his vehicle. They chanted “Bravo!”

As of now, we can’t say for sure if the event was staged. But either way, as you might expect, such a fiasco couldn’t remain hidden from the Internet for long. The video has gone viral since its posting last week, being reposted to YouTube several times with the original video receiving more than 700,000 views and other videos receiving thousands of hits as well.
Watch the nearly 10 minutes of building chaos from one car’s actions:

Posted on February 11, 2013 at 1:08pmIt took me a few minutes to understand why they did not just pick the car up and turn it around then it dawned on me – this is Italy. Since the government was not there to tell them what to do, they didn’t know what to do.

Posted on February 11, 2013 at 12:36pmThey should have gotten involved if they wanted this to end quickly.
When I was a teenager 4 of us were able to pick up a VW and turn it bumper to bumper between 2 posts.
Needless to say the guy that owned the VW did not find nearly as funny as we did when he came out to get in his car.

Posted on February 11, 2013 at 1:14pmERIC_THE_RED_STATE, LOL, I don/t know about that. Those Fiat 500s look almost exactly as they did when I first laid eyes on one back in 1981. They were just called Bambinos then.

Posted on February 11, 2013 at 12:31pmWhat an idiot. Make a U-turn in a tiny space like that? I guess the though of driving around the block didn’t occur (and I know blocks can be very long in Italy).
