Bill O’Reilly Calls for Gun Registration on Letterman: ‘Just Like You Have to Register Your Car’

Bill OReilly Calls for Gun Registration, Corrects David Lettermans Automatic Gun Comments

On Monday night, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” where he defended the U.S. government’s use of drones and answered David Letterman’s questions about gun control. During the exchange, O’Reilly called for gun crimes to be “federalized” while also laying out a proposal on gun registration.

Other subjects that the two men covered included the film “Zero Dark Thirty” and the new Esquire article that documents the purported life struggles of the Navy SEAL who killed Osama bin Laden.

But while the appearance covered a variety of topics, O’Reilly’s proposal for guns were some of the most interesting. Here’s a transcript of his comments:

“Here’s what you do with guns…you federalize all gun crimes, number one. You take it out of the local jurisdiction and state and you federalize it, right? So therefore if you’re caught in a gun crime holding up a 7-11, you get a mandatory 10 years if you’re convicted in a federal pen, on top of whatever Slurpee you stole.” [...]

The second thing you do is, if you buy a gun, you have to register the gun — just like you have to register your car, alright. Now, people say ‘Oh, slippery slope, they’re gonna come–. Hey, this makes it easier for the government to take a thug who has a gun that’s not registered and put him in jail for 10 years.”

Later in the interview, Letterman expressed some confusion surrounding the difference between automatic and semi-automatic weapons. After the host asked why people need automatic guns, O’Reilly corrected him, noting that these firearms are illegal (although he didn’t get into the nuance of acquiring permits for them).

“What about the … automatic weapons. I still don’t understand the need for an automatic weapon,” Letterman said. “I’m not against guns, but I don’t get the automatic weapons.”

O’Reilly tackled by trying to explain the difference between automatic and semi-automatic weapons.

O’Reilly is completely wrong. Our gun ownership is a RIGHT. Registering guns will only affect law-abiding gun owners and will be used to tax and harass us. If you want to hammer gun criminals go ahead, put them in work prisons reminiscent of the road prison in Cool Hand Luke. Make ‘em work and sweat all day. Make the criminal miserable and not those who obey the law.

Too much bad human history to buy into that slippery slope! Too many corrupt and tyrannical governments have existed to fall for the old lie of “Trust us, we’re from the government and we are here to take care of you”! Marxism is a terrible master!

a criminal will register or just give up their gun…so if we all follow the law why do I have to have uninsured motorists insurance if all cars need registration and insurance?

If we don’t arrest people prior to committing a crime what good does registration do?

There’s just no cure for this special type of stupid

O’Reilly is your stereotypical N.Y. know it all, wizard of smart. He worships at the altar of big govt. Claims to be such an expert on history but is apparantly ignorant about what tyrants do. I have too many friends that were victims of Castro and of the Sandanistas in Nicaragua to believe it can’t happen here. Nazi Germany, Cuba, England, Australia all required registration and all of them eventually DID confiscate most if not all weapons. But I guess we’re so much different than them that we’ll never let that happen. After all Obama said so.

Orielly, fox, Rubio, Obama, Brown, Beck …all of them on both sides of the political scene are part of the same nexus, like two sides of the same coin. They all have an interest in the status quo, hence they all become the enemy of change or return to the founding values. Non mob, non freeloaders, non fools, and non racists …therefore non democrats and their republican counterparts are vested in the current American fiasco, and thinking Americans have moved on. Real change will come when these republican and democrat vestiges of a failed system are moved aside by passive or active means…be alert to your well being and look to guidance from Jefferson on re-entrenching corruption.

If Fox News wants to reverse its ratings slide, they need to can O’Reilly and give Hannity the 8pm slot.

They could also try giving Glenn Beck another chance in prime time, but I bet he’s more than successful enough with The Blaze to care enough to join Fox News again.

I am all for North America and Mexico sitting down and dividing up the three countries as the people see fit. Everyone can be assigned or be relocated to the one they are best suited for or chose to live in.
The entire South, Midwest, and Rockies along with Western Canada and Alaska go together and become the Conservative Republic of America. No whiny liberals or government handout survivors will be allowed here.

The Eastern part of Canada along with the Northeast and Mid Atlantic with MN, WI, MI, IL and the northern halves of IN and Ohio go together with them. This will be The Socialists States of America.

The final country will be Mexico, CA, OR and Washington State. All Hispanics go here along with the people in the three states listed. Hollywood actors will remain in this region as well. This will be the The States of Confusion.

All current and past criminals in jail or out will be gathered up and sent to Hawaii which no longer will be long to the Americas. They obviously are good at creating birth certificates so they can give all the criminals a new start on life in their new land.

Anyone currently on the government payout programs will also be rounded up and given a choice to go to the Northeast or The Mexico State of Confusion. After that the countries will move forward and manage their own destiny.

Washington DC will be leveled and will be a neutral area for all to have free access to come to anytime as a reminder of what happened when the gov’t we

O’reilly is a moron who hasnt a clue of how gun registration is the first step to eliminating the 2nd amendment. O’Moron needs to read up on history of how Hitler was able to confiscate the guns with ease, the Liberal Weimar government had registered all guns in Germany and when Hitler came to power and decided to round up the peoples guns he went right to those registered homes and picked them up………the rest is history!

California can’t even keep the ones they have already locked up!! “Court order means early release for California inmates”: http://tinyurl.com/bjo2m3a

Bill was so pleased with himself in 2008 for his “shootout” interview with Obama (about shooting hoops??) .. All he talked about for months. Of course that toad McCain wouldn’t do the Factor, so one guess who Bill voted for.. He thinks he speaks for all the little people?? Go away. How does he get a show? I can’t stand him, and you know you’ve reached the peak of libtardism when Letterman agrees with you. Good grief..

This is the second place where Bill has it wrong. He was first wrong on “big oil” and now on guns. News Flash Bill, criminals do not buy guns legitimately and registration would only work to track people who follow the law. There are enough laws now to deal with crime and his ideas have no real chance of improving things. I have quit watching him!
