Mainstream Media Contributor Falls for Fake Sarah Palin, Al-Jazeera Story (And Now It’s Been Scrubbed)

After parting ways with Fox News Channel, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will continue to reach out to Americans as a contributor for Al Jazeera English, according to Washington Post contributor Suzi Parker.

“Late last week Al Jazeera America announced the former vice-presidential candidate would be joining their news network,” she writes.

There’s just one problem with Miss Parker’s “scoop”: It’s 100 percent bogus. Her entire story is based on a fake report from the parody website The Daily Currant, the same site responsible for the “Ann Coulter Refuses to Board Airplane With Black Pilot” story that sparked so much hatred from the left.

Apparently, it didn’t occur to the author of “Sex in the South: Unbuckling the Bible Belt” that a “news” site with stories such as “Mugabe Bans the Color White,” “Cory Booker Gives CPR to Random Person at Super Bowl,” “Glenn Beck Calls 911 After Accidentally Eating Halal Pizza,” and “Vladimir Putin Kills Grizzly Bear With Bare Hands” could, you know, be fake.

But perhaps having filed the Palin story under “Too Good To Check,” Parker embraced the idea of the former vice presidential candidate moving to al-Jazeera and dove headfirst into explaining the dangers of mixing celebrity with politics.

“The Sarah Palin Story is a cautionary tale about what can happen when politics and celebrity meet,” she writes.

“Fame, not legislating, is clearly what Palin still seeks. She had to be at least a bit giddy last month when actress Julianne Moore won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Palin in the HBO miniseries ‘Game Change,’” she adds.

She goes on to cite Palin’s “interview” with The Daily Currant.

“As you all know, I’m not a big fan of newspapers, journalists, news anchors and the liberal media in general,” Palin supposedly said. “But I met with the folks at Al-Jazeera and they told me they reach millions of devoutly religious people who don’t watch CBS or CNN. That tells me they don’t have a liberal bias.”

Parker couldn’t pass up the opportunity to mock Palin.

“Ironically, Fox News recently called Al Jazeera ‘an anti-American terror mouthpiece,’” Parker notes. “Bless her heart, is Palin trying her best to stay relevant while her 15 minutes fades into the political history books?”

What’s odd about the Parker SNAFU, as Mediaite’s Noah Rothman notes, is that her story includes numerous links and citations. So how did she miss the fact that The Daily Currant is a gag website during her research?

Anyway, it wasn’t long before the Internet informed Parker and the Washington Post that their story was less than accurate. They quickly issued a “correction” and scrubbed any mention of The Daily Currant. But, you see, once something goes on the Internet, it’s forever:

Final Thought: Parker shouldn’t feel too bad for playing the sap. After all, it’s not like she’s the first person to fall flat on her face over a fake Sarah Palin story. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow beat her to the punch a long, long time ago.

Sarah Palin is a truly liberated woman. Why do the left not have any? And why do they hate liberated women when they come along? This author is not liberated. She is ‘owned’. She wrote an entire story proving it. As proof: She could have written a story about Palin’s positive successes, and SHE would be demonized for it. She is owned and isn’t even liberated enough to fathom the possibility.

  I don’t often get my skivvies in a knot over the deliberate publishing of fake, unsubstantiated “Journalism” by a “News Service,” but when I do; I prefer to be outraged by a news story “rumoring” the next Director of the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States of America is a practicing Muslim (but nobody knows).

  Wow, that sure is “interesting.” I knew that Brennan prefers to call Jerusalem by its Muslim name (“Al Kudts” — or however it is spelled), and that he has come out against any war on “terror” or war on “terrorism”. I can understand why he would keep his Muslim religion under wraps (like Muslims keep their women under wraps). Given the CIA’s recent historic role in combatting Islamic fascism and terrorism, it certainly is ourageous that there has not been any discussion of Brennan’s religious affiliation.

  Thanks LOL I also wonder how many people know that prior to the white man arriving in Alaska the Inuit and other First Nation people living there traveled between Siberia and North (the real) America and parts of Northern Europe for centuries. Funny thing about deer hunting. You can kill a deer and the others scatter, but if you wait long enough, the others will come back if it’s a good spot for them. They will act as though the dead deer is a rock, they just do not care as long as they feel safe and have food. Liberals are the same way. As long as they get their free stuff it does not matter if they are surrounded by death and decay (Detroit, Philly, Chicago). Facts do not matter, as long as someone is directing them to the free stuff. Lies are told to them every day and the facts stare them in the face, which they treat as nothing more than some rock on the ground. Media is the same way, if it feeds their ego, feeds their agenda, feeds their faith, then truth is nothing more than rocks on the ground. These are mere animals you are looking at in the zoo. Unfortunately, the animals are running the zoo. There are dead animals everywhere but it doesn’t matter. Facts will never matter. They simply do not think or reason out facts. They see what they want and they run to it…to hell with results. This is why it is easy to hunt some animals, they are predictable. Liberals will never have the ability to learn beyond getting food in their belly. Control the food and you control the herd. Obama controls the food and that is the only fact that matters in this equation. A dishonest media is irrelevant.

The journalist today have no idea what investigative reporting, or the need for the truth, is all about.
Anyone reporting for a non-Fox story will use anything they come across that fits their own personal agenda.

Suzi is a liberal! Therefore she hates Sarah Palin for being a conservative.
I doubt that Suzi has ever talked to Sarah or has any idea of what Sarah’s real life is about. She has her sources and they are all left wing progressives.

She finds some rumor about Sarah, so she feels obligated to spread the word. The truth is never considered, it’s the good intentions of Suzi to inform the masses of the evil Sarah.

Hilarious. So sad, and yet so telling. Maybe Miss Parker needs to learn how to do some real work first – maybe making sandwiches at a Subway would help her learn a little about process? – and THEN she can start moving toward her goal of being an actual journalist.

I wonder how long it will take for her to learn? Typically, that kind of real-world learning curve is VERY steep for rabid liberals. And it generally does NOT include leg tingles, a la Chris Matthews.
