Sen. Rubio Pokes Fun at Himself After Awkward Water Break During State of the Union Rebuttal

Sen Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) poked fun at his awkward water break that occurred during his response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address on Monday.

Shortly after his rebuttal speech concluded, Rubio tweeted a photo of the water bottle that interrupted his speech via his official Twitter account. Perhaps he was trying to beat his critics to the punch.

The water sipping really appears to be overshadowing his actual message as social media lit up with people commenting on Rubio’s thirst. There were certainly moments where Rubio appeared to be uncomfortable or nervous during his address on Monday, but the focus has certainly been on the following portion of his speech. Watch the video:

Garrett Jackson, Mitt Romney’s personal aide during his 2012 presidential bid, tweeted that he “would have had that water bottle closer, had it been the Gov. Haha. Marco needs an aide.”

UPDATE:

On Wednesday morning, Rubio joined the “Fox and Friends” crew to explain his response, and the now-infamous water incident. He said that he would have rather reached for the water than not have been able to pronounce his words because his mouth was dry. And he even had a little more fun, interrupting the interview for another water break:

The Associated Press contributed to this report

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Didn’t hear Marco Rubio’s speech. I do know that I prefer anything from him than I would from the likes of Bill Ayers and his wife that bombed buildings and killed Police Officers.

We do know that Bill Ayers and wife and others of his ilk fill our Universities and fill the minds of our youth to hate America.

Maybe the Blaze can take a cue from SNL, and present a short video on the etiquette of reaching for a bottle of water during a major speech to the Nation.

Does he grasp with a full hand or index, middle and thumb fingers? Does he grip around the neck of the bottle or a firm grasp about the body? How many steps towards a bottle are permissible before it’s considered rude? Left hand or right hand?

C’mon! If you’re going to make a big deal of it, do it right, and show us how it should be done! Next week, you can show us how to drool.

Did you watch the whole rebuttal? It was awkward. He obviously had dry mouth and his lips were making an odd smacking noise. Then he wiped the crusties from the corners of his mouth a few times. Then the water reach. After that he went into warp drive to get it all over with. I told my wife last night that this would be reenacted on SNL this weekend. The performance was better than Jindal, but not by much. The message was really good, but it will be overshadowed by the shaky performance. I was surprised and disappointed.

@Gonzo, funny how people don’t listen to the message anymore, just the delivery. I guess the words he delivered are forever mute because of an awkward delivery. I like the fact that he is human and has human failings. If you want polish, then there are a boat load of D.C. politicos that will fill the bill. Give me someone that has a heart and a heartbeat.

People will use anything to get your mind off of the substance of what he was saying so they will concentrate on the guy needing a drink of water…how pathetic! They should have had that water and a podium set up for him especially since they knew before hand that he was going to be speaking. It’s the “shiny object theory” at work…divert everyones attention to a stupid little thing so they don’t actually pay attention to the important stuff. I cried during his speech. They should have gotten him some water as soon as they noticed he clearly needed it. It was probably a lefty behind the camera.

Four more years of **** loss and he’ll be looking like a young Don Rickles.

Christie will mop the floor with this wannabe, time to send him back to finishing school. That was the best the Republicans have, are you kidding me?

Rubio, literally was not ready for primetime. Perhaps he was given the moniker of Republican savior a bit too soon. He wasn’t as goofy as Jindal, but his speech was much worse. It was small, petty, and disingenuous. In other words it was a microcosm of what the GOP has become.

      Moonbeamsun –

You gave no valid arguments as to justify your criticisms vis-a-vis Senator Rubio’s polemic. Indeed, you did little more than offer general, adiaphanous castigations (“disengenous,” “small,” “petty”) as well as those statements ad hominem (his ****).

On a full-scale contradictory note, you lambaste Rubio individually, all the while concluding he represents a Republican Party no less vile. (If true, then why demean Rubio, the man, given he’s simply reflective of the comprehensive picture?)

Nevertheless, my good man, I’m certain Mr. Rubio’s political career will far surpass the obvious limitations with which your liberal bigotry attempts to shackle him. Indeed, his against-the-odds success has already delineated him as the GOP’s young, energetic, attractive, upcoming star! (Dare I say, the GOP’s Obama [but with better politics!])

Oh, a final note: Please be careful when demeaning one’s appearance. After all, there’s a good chance that old bag Hillary Clinton may represent your party in 2016. If so, I think it’s fair to conclude Mr. Rubio will come out looking like a veritable movie star when juxtaposed to that quickly aging mummy!

@JUSTANGRY I hope you understand that I respect your position and your legitimate questions. Sure, Rubio may have voted the only way a person can when trapped between a rock and hard place: importantly, what was the context of those votes? ===> AND (sorry, must shout here) THIS IS WHY CONSERVATIVES/NON-LIBERALS MUST STOP FIGHTING AMONGST THEMSELVES AND GO AND *POPULATE* THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE.

Fine, be angry, but I’m telling you that the reason Democrats keep winning –repeatedly– is that they do NOT attack their own!!! They look stupid by not maintaining a sterling appearance, but those circled wagons sure do work, and that’s why conservatives keep floundering. Be smart, be pragmatic, and DO NOT sit on your hands or your votes when you do not have the “perfect” candidate! He or she does not exist, and we are doomed as a country if the naysayers can’t get their ____ together.

They missed a great opportunity again. Having an enthusiastic audience changes everything. I remember in the 1990′s and earlier at music award shows they’d have just celebrities in the front rows and they wouldn’t move during the show’s performances. Then, they finally cleared out the front 20 rows and had music fans there to dance and scream which made a big difference. It’s awkward to watch a band play and nobody move in the audience.

Why not flip over to Rubio in front of a crowd at a convention center and have him give a speech for the crowd? Time the event with a convention or something. That would be exciting. The one camera shot has to go. Good speech, but he’s a live crowd kind of guy.

His family actually went thru the system and popped out as they should have…Regan granted amnesty for 20M…and did nothing to stop the flow…do you clowns have a better plan that Rubio? I doubt you folks even listened let alone understand the issue…do you know at what point he will not support his own plan? You clowns would not know a good negotiator if one handed the keys to the car to ya. Willing to betcha you folks get taken every-time you step onto the car lot. Mooo on children…
