Sen. Rubio Pokes Fun at Himself After Awkward Water Break During State of the Union Rebuttal

Sen Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) poked fun at his awkward water break that occurred during his response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address on Monday.

Shortly after his rebuttal speech concluded, Rubio tweeted a photo of the water bottle that interrupted his speech via his official Twitter account. Perhaps he was trying to beat his critics to the punch.

The water sipping really appears to be overshadowing his actual message as social media lit up with people commenting on Rubio’s thirst. There were certainly moments where Rubio appeared to be uncomfortable or nervous during his address on Monday, but the focus has certainly been on the following portion of his speech. Watch the video:

Garrett Jackson, Mitt Romney’s personal aide during his 2012 presidential bid, tweeted that he “would have had that water bottle closer, had it been the Gov. Haha. Marco needs an aide.”

UPDATE:

On Wednesday morning, Rubio joined the “Fox and Friends” crew to explain his response, and the now-infamous water incident. He said that he would have rather reached for the water than not have been able to pronounce his words because his mouth was dry. And he even had a little more fun, interrupting the interview for another water break:

New headline from the White House, “Rubio almost wets himself over Obama speech”. What a bunch of dimwitted dishonest dolts, deliberately dealing deception . Oh, sorry. Just me playing a Liberal reporter.

I hope the Republicans aggressively attack the democrats for their attack on style instead of substance. Force arguments on the merits of what was said. Show the ill-informed voter that this is exactly what they did to destroy Romney, and that they need to be called out on issues. The Dems are wrong on nearly every issue (in the voters’ mind), so we need to force the argument.

How in the world can anyone take the media seriously when they resort to ridicule of a national Senator for such a trivial matter as getting a drink of water. The liberal media cannot argue the political and economic points and so rely on personal attacks to marginalize conservatives. Kill the messenger appears to be the solution from the left.

Any speech other than the President’s was great!

Rubio is well spoken, he understands and knows economics as related to government. It’s not government that will raise you out of poverty…it is about you having the initiative to climb out of the ditch with minimal assistance from the government. Our nanny gov’t is perhaps too far out there to pull it back hard and fast.

When you poke the system AKA balloon here, it pokes out there…you poke it as fast and furious as the last two presidents (more so under Obama) have the system AKA balloon becomes inelastic. ECON 101 and POLI-SCI 101 from the 60′s. Oh and the SOC department knew that too. ;)

Marco Rubio has struggled with water his entire life. He floated
on an inner tube for 90 miles to get here from Cuba. His father
was an irrigation technician (landscaper) which embarrassed Marco.
Finally, most of his hair has been washed away into the shower drain.

In the primaries last year, the Repubs had a choice. They could have used the attention to the field of candidates much better to get out the conservative message. Instead, they acted like there was a much division inside the party as there was between them and the Dems. We have that choice to make again. Agree on the core conservative principles and then respectfully debate them. Get the media’s attention by the fresh, uplifting approach. How much worse off can we be than we are now by trying to be Dem-lite when the Dems have moved so far left, they are off the grid.

Of course, the lefties from the mainstream media will focus on the bottle business. That’s a floor manager’s problem. Appearently, they did not think about how close to set the bottle in order to prevent his having to do the dive for the bottle routine.

Rand or Rubio-please oh Lord give me either!

I want to talk about Rubio first. He has heart and he can define an idea. The problem that Libertarians, Tea Party, Conservatives, and Reagan Republicans have is that no one has emerged that can communicate the IDEA of America. I have watched him over and over and he can. And, he is informed. I also think he is a worker.

Rubio may need to practice his water bottle reach but his substance was TRUE.

Now I want to talk about Rand Paul. I like him. He is technically talented, he is experienced, AND he does communicate…but can he reach the people I think that Rubio can? I don’t know. Though I like his style, I try to imagine him trying to influence certain groups, such as moderates or Independents or floundering left leaning voters and I wonder if they get him. Even though he is closer on the social issues to them than Rubio would be. We’ll see. I think Rand Paul is a worker too.

This makes me remember the Presidential debates. Though I can not understand how people can not get the idea of America, I can certainly see how they did not get the message.

And by the way…so big fat deal that Rubio had dry mouth. At least he does not have flies following him…everywhere. I just wish he would have taken a swig earlier, it looked uncomfortable.

I don’t see the nervousness. I just see he needed some water…which was placed akwardly out of his reach…he grabbed it quickly….HIS Mind was more on ‘Speaking’ rather than how ‘Classy and Suave’ he ‘looked’ getting a sip of water.
That’s MY opinion and I’m sticking to it. ;)

Yes, the bottle was a little too far off camera…and a glass would have been much more aesthetically pleasing.
But… SO WHAT in the big scheme of things?! Seriously, the ship IS sinking, and Republicans/conservatives/non-liberals/independents NEED TO STOP EATING THEIR OWN. Be smart, united (no third party BS), and most of all: pragmatic. That’s how the Democrats WIN elections (as in, “reign victorious”) over and over and over again to spew their suffocating big-government legislation…pay attention to the opposing team’s strategy and take note!

Instead, try eating Democrats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! While they’re tasteless and not very nutritious, there are an awful lot of them out there.

His speech was the best last night, he is even more articulate than Obama, way more, he doesn’t need a teleprompter in everything he does. Here is his full speech: http://www.thedailycandidate.com/video/2013/feb/rubio_sotu_response.html
