Sen. Rubio Pokes Fun at Himself After Awkward Water Break During State of the Union Rebuttal
Sen Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) poked fun at his awkward water break that occurred during his response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address on Monday.
Shortly after his rebuttal speech concluded, Rubio tweeted a photo of the water bottle that interrupted his speech via his official Twitter account. Perhaps he was trying to beat his critics to the punch.

The water sipping really appears to be overshadowing his actual message as social media lit up with people commenting on Rubio’s thirst. There were certainly moments where Rubio appeared to be uncomfortable or nervous during his address on Monday, but the focus has certainly been on the following portion of his speech. Watch the video:
Garrett Jackson, Mitt Romney’s personal aide during his 2012 presidential bid, tweeted that he “would have had that water bottle closer, had it been the Gov. Haha. Marco needs an aide.”
UPDATE:
On Wednesday morning, Rubio joined the “Fox and Friends” crew to explain his response, and the now-infamous water incident. He said that he would have rather reached for the water than not have been able to pronounce his words because his mouth was dry. And he even had a little more fun, interrupting the interview for another water break:

Posted on February 14, 2013 at 5:11pmI thought Rand Paul and Rubio both rocked it. They articulated the false truth’s of big government and the alternatives that provide real oppurtunities for success.

Posted on February 13, 2013 at 1:13pmPoliticians have discovered the value of the sound bite in destroying opposition. This win-at-any-cost aspect of politics is extremely distasteful. It is also quite dangerous in our multimedia world. If you listen to BO’s words, you would think he really believes in the ideals on which this country is founded. If you accept this awkward moment in MR’s speech as indication of lack of sophistication or credibility you would be making a grave mistake as well. Chevy Chase was able to effectively make Gerald Ford look like a buffoon by his pratfalls on SNL. Ford simply had an old injury that caused him to fall while descending airplane steps. Do we really want a world where a person is judged by taking a drink of water at the wrong time? Or an unfortunate fall is a source of ridicule? Beware of the mind games.

Posted on February 13, 2013 at 12:09pmIs it just me? I’m somehwat suspicious of whomever it was (the intern) who set up Rubios water. Those responsible for laying things out, were either intentionally or unintentionally derelict in their duties.
In all honesty, was there no-one (from the staffer who are always in charge of these things) who understood that tha mans water needed to be within easy reach?
I’d like to know if was RUbios people, or the union stage people who placed his water, basically out of camera shot.

Posted on February 13, 2013 at 10:46amI have become a pessimist when it comes to anyone who crosses the Potomac, so I am not sure what to think of Rubio. I didn’t watch his speech until this morning. It is very good. Why are we talking about water? Do the Rove Rino’s or the Dem’s intentional turn up the heat in the Republican room? Didn’t Jindal start sweating too?
It is always some distraction that takes away from the wonderful message they delivery. As a supporter of anyone honest enough to challenge the status quo – I will not join in the LSM squashing the real story – Rubio and Paul kicked “that guys” ****.

Posted on February 13, 2013 at 1:17pmThis wasn’t a mistake. It was physiology. He was in a relatively small space with the heat of lights and cameras. His only mistake was not anticipating the need for a drink and holding the water throughout the speech.

Posted on February 13, 2013 at 9:24amThis is to be expected from the liberal sheep.
NO REPUBLICAN will ever be taken seriously or have the substance of their speech payed any attention until we start mocking the left like they do to us.
We need to out Alinsky the left. There needs to be broad and overwhelming mocking of everybody on the left on a large scale. Put the shoe on the other foot. That is unfortunately the ONLY way to get ahead of them. Our society is so dumbed down that substance means absolutely nothing anymore.

Posted on February 13, 2013 at 9:24amI’m sorry, but why is taking a drink of water a news article? I mean is the “rubio reach” a new dance move or something?

Posted on February 13, 2013 at 9:20am@Gonzo Who are you addressing? Me? Yes, I did watch the entire rebuttal. I tend to listen to the words. Integrity and honesty play a big role as well. Further, the pressure is on anyone who rebuts a sitting President. I am proud of Marco Rubio. He represents the best of what America offers. If you were not addressing me, skip it.
