44-Year-Old Woman Goes to Hospital to Have ‘Hernia’ Checked — Walks Out With 10-Pound Baby She Wasn’t Expecting
A Michigan woman went to the hospital last week thinking she had a hernia. A half a day later, she had delivered a healthy 10-pound baby girl.
MLive reported 44-year-old Linda Ackley not knowing she was pregnant until Friday morning when she was admitted into Allegiance Health in Jackson, Mich. She told MLive she thought she would never be able to have children after she was infected with necrotizing fasciitis and underwent abdominal surgery two years ago. During treatment for the bacterial infection — a type that received media attention last year after a 24-year-old Georgia student lost several of her limbs due to it — it was even thought Ackley might not even make it, MLive reported.

Mike and Linda Ackley of Jackson, left, visit with people at the Jackson County Courthouse on Monday Feb. 11, 2013 to show their daughter, Kimberly Kay. Linda gave birth to the over 10 pound girl Friday night after finding out Friday morning she was pregnant. The couple had previously been told that they wouldn’t be able to conceive a child. (Photo: AP/The Jackson Citizen Patriot,J. Scott Park)
Reflecting on the previous nine months, Ackley said she wasn’t in pain and didn’t notice too much weight gain. Her menstrual periods were also previously irregular, so she hadn’t been too concerned on that front either.
The baby was discovered in a CT scan and doctors first they thought she would have a few weeks before delivering. That was until an ultrasound showed she was full-term and an emergency C-section was ordered.
Ackley’s husband, Mike, said he was happy, shocked and scared.

“Some people have nine months to prepare. I had [15] hours,” Mike, said to MLive on Monday, the day the mother and baby were released from the hospital.

Posted on February 13, 2013 at 3:35pmWhere’s the miracle? She had irregular periods; like millions of other women. She had a uterus; like millions of other women. She had sex; like millions of other women. There are approximately 500,000 babies born everyday on this planet. And, according to other sources, the couple assumed that she could not get pregnant.
Were she not obese this would not be a story. Focus on the problem. Obesity.

I might be skeptical on a lot of things, but I know an act of God when I see one. I’m sure this couple will be willing to give credit where credit is due as well.

Posted on February 13, 2013 at 3:18pmWow, you people are a-holes on this site. For all of your self-professed kindness, mercy, and godly behavior, you sure act like a bunch of liberal jerks. She doesn’t look obese to me, not for a pregnant lady in her 40′s and I doubt they get welfare. If she were a welfare whore, she would have been seeing a doctor regularly and the pregnancy would have been caught earlier. People who put off seeing a doctor for an enlarging hernia (if that is truly what she thought she had), do so because they don’t have the money, not because they are on welfare. She, or the writer, may have gotten the terminology wrong – she may have had a fibroid cyst on her uterus. They can grow larger and many women live with them without any symptoms other than a larger abdomen. If that is the case, it is perfectly plausible that she simply thought the fibroid was growing larger and any minor symptoms of the pregnancy (like weight gain or perceived cramping) she blamed on the fibroid or on simply getting “old”.
They look like a very nice couple, like typical Americans. I’m happy for them. Why all of the vitriol, at a time you Bible thumpers should be celebrating, is beyond me. The calloused remarks about her looks and worth as a human being is appalling. I expect these remarks on a liberal trash site, not from you Bible lovers.

Posted on February 13, 2013 at 3:48pmMelika, one can not grow a ten, 10, pound baby and think that it is a fibroid without the cover of obesity. And, if fibroid was the working diagnosis, an ultra sound, and not a CT scan would have been ordered. Finally, the treatment of necrotizing fasciitis does not end with sterility… she was still having irregular periods.
As an aside, who orders a CT scan without a pregnancy test?

Posted on February 13, 2013 at 12:22pmAll the negative, assumption based people need to stop and answer some questions: have you been pregnant? have you ever been told you probably can’t get pregnant? Unless you can honestly answer yes to both then shut-up. My pregnancies involved alot of baby movment, but I have no idea how I would interpret baby movement if I didn’t KNOW that I was pregnant. Not all babies move as much as mine did. I tried for years to teach children not to jump to conclusions that are not supported by the information provided. Are the majority of posters operating at the 4th grade level? So, until you have proof that would be admitted in court instead of conjecture, again, shut-up. Posted on February 13, 2013 at 12:03pmIs it possible not to judge these people and just be happy for them? It isn’t as if a women going full term without knowing she is carrying a baby is new! I was just reading in St. John chapter 5 that Jesus told the man who had an infirmity for 38 years to Rise, take up thy bed and walk. Immediately the man was made whole. This was done on the sabbath day. So was the man greeted by the Jews with happiness that his illness was gone? Heck no they told him it was NOT lawful to carry his bed on the sabbath day. You know our laws are getting to be just as stupid as not to be able to carry a bed.
Just proves there is nothing new under the sun. Man just keeps recycling the garbage.

Your use of inductive reasoning is so absurd. You sound like an idiot. Where I’m from in MI, like Hermit-The-Crab previously mentioned, there are way more conservative women than liberal ones. In fact, my county and about a dozen around it were red. We have one of the best state representatives right now that’s conservative. When you make an asinine generalization while also stating “It’s a fact,’ is so grammatically incorrect that I can see why most liberals think poorly of most conservatives. When you say things like that it just furthers the stereotype that conservatives are “at war” with women. If it is true that women helped elect Obama, don’t you think that conservatives should try to win them over instead of alienating them?
Maybe you should have a little faith in the female population. We’re not all idiots. THAT’S a fact.

The woman obviously doesn’t take care of her self. How else do you explain being pregnant and not noticing? If a person’s body is that eft up that they don’t notice something as major as being pregnant then how do you expect them to properly raise and take care of a child?
She was “going to get her hernia checked”? I’ve never had one, but from what I have heard they can fix those things.
