CNN Panel Clashes After Contributor Suggests Alleged LAPD Cop Killer Can Teach Us a Lot About ‘Institutionalized Racism’
A CNN contributor on Wednesday said that the story of suspected cop killer Christopher Dorner can tell us a lot about corruption, “institutionalized racism,” and give us a framework to examine how “America operates in general.”

Dorner allegedly shot and murdered Keith Lawrence and his fiancée, Monica Quan, on Feb. 3. Four days later, he allegedly shot and killed Police Officer Michael Crain, a decorated U.S. Marine and a father of two children. (Facebook/Reuters).
“He says a lot about more than just guns,” said Politic365′s Jason Johnson. “He tells us a lot about how our urban police departments are working, he tells us a lot about corruption. He tells us a lot about institutionalized racism. His story is the kind of testimony that we need to take a look at how America operates in general.”
CNN’s Carol Costello jumped in to point out that being “evil and vile” — as Dorner has been accused of being — makes it awfully difficult for anyone to take his supposed “message” seriously.
The New York Times’ Ross Douthat chimed in to point out that “crazy people” are capable of making good points “in the course of coming to evil conclusions,” but also noted there’s a double-standard clearly on display in the Dorner case.
“Now you have a psychotic killer who has published a manifesto that expresses basically left-wing ideas and the takeaway is supposed to be that we should enact left-wing policy proposals?” he asked, noting that this was definitely not how people reacted after Jared Loughner shot and killed six people in Tucson, Arizona.
“It seems like there’s a slight double standard in how the media reacts to these kind of rampages, don’t you think?” he pressed.
The panel then turned to CNN contributor Van Jones who was not at all pleased with the discussion.
“There are many better spokespersons for the cause of racial justice than this murderer,” Jones said, adding that we’re going “down a very dangerous road.”
We should be talking about the victims, he said, and “the legitimate people who have been trying to make positive change in peaceful, lawful ways.”

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officers Ken Owens, center, and Bernabe Ortiz search a home for former Los Angeles police officer Christopher Dorner in Big Bear Lake, Calif, Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013. (AP Photo).
Johnson jumped back in to defend his earlier point.
Dorner isn’t “the Rosa Parks of gun violence,” he said. But “his story is telling and the kind of thing we can learn from — it doesn’t have to be an either/or.”
Jones countered by saying that it’s fine to view Dorner’s case as one of a mental health issue, but “I don’t want to validate his political thinking while people are literally planning funerals.”
Douthat sided with Jones, leaving Johnson all alone in his argument.
“In these kind of moments,” Douthat said, “you know, you want to focus on the victims, you want to condemn the crime, and you want to save the political points the person may have been inspired by for a more appropriate time.”

Posted on February 13, 2013 at 8:39pmWell you can bet Dorner did. However, he is/was a very interesting interesting person. On one hand he claims/implies his actions were provoked by the LAPD for civil liberty violations and other constitutional reasons while referring to others as “tyrants” then he goes on to praise Obama and numerous progressives (and republicans)…. At one point in his manifesto he claimed he supported the federal government “100%.”
Not exactly a balanced manifesto, although I do agree with his position on the LAPD and cops in general.
Unlike most posters here I have had the opportunity to get kicked in the head by a cop for no reason.

Your taking away their ability to later claim that poor Dorner is a victim too. Kind of like the other cop killer Van Jones thinks should be set free and was wrongly imprisoned. Where Dorner screwed up is by killing someone other than cops. There is no defense as of yet for that.

Pretty much every time an affirmative action hire gets fired the first thing they cry is racism. While he is still a cop-killer who took his job too seriously – he was most likely motivated by bad experiences with the corrupt LAPD. This does not excuse his actions, but it does shine light on evil system, know what i mean?

http://www.salon.com/2013/02/12/were_dorners_complaints_legitimate/
Given that the training officer is not going to incriminate herself. This 4 to 2 or 3 to 2 against Dorner.
Note that Gettler is mentally ill & often says yes to anything according to his father.
Dorner lost, right or wrong. I think it was wrong. But the stupid SOB shoots his defense counsel’s daughter? That is beyond the pale. If it were the training officer or the Review board, that would be one thing. He shot a total innocent. Also you cannot right every wrong. Just because he did not win does not mean that he could not win in the future. Speaking of the future police & people being taken into custody will have much better protection from bad conduct or false accusations with the use of police cams & civilians filming police in public.
What Dorner did was very wrong. He just poured gasoline onto any race problems we have.
You pick & choose your battles to win the war. Dorner picked the 1st battle offered & got routed. Big surprise.

You were the one that said Dorner was of sound mind. The more I think about it, the more I think he was insane. Like Mike Savage said “Liberalism is a mental disorder”. So Dorner was a little bit loopy, but stewing about his treatment right or wrong (I am of the opinion that it was wrong & have said so before), still does not give you the right to shoot or otherwise harm innocent people. I have seen plenty of people less qualified get jobs that I should have had. And I was angry. but what I didn’t do is start whacking people. Yes, Dorner became crazy. He could not even plan a getaway.

Most liars think everyone else are liars. We should see that many black people have deep seeded hate for white people. They blame others for their problems that they them self create and even keep voting for. This guy proved through his actions that he should have never been a police officer in the first place. Who knows what other things he has done to others when he was a cop when he is walking around with the mind set like that. He is the product of a government that has created propaganda for 50 years. Posted on February 13, 2013 at 3:41pmso the contributor chooses to ignore that some of those killed were ‘of color’… that there was not a racial or sex component to the firing, merely the issue of credibility.
That’s the race batier and closet racist’s attitude toward anything where race might be injected into the conversation: use the tragedy (whatever it is) as a springboard to claim that racism remains a problem.
Frankly, that attitude in the MSM and in politicians perpetuates racial problems, because it gives the sheeple tacit approval to claim it’s racism when anything bad happens to them, rather than their behavior or the behavior of those around them.
Beauchamp or such is coming out with a series on ID telveision that purports to show how black people have been mistreated by police and citizens due to racism, and claims the idea was born when Trayvon was killed… so clearly this journalist never bothered to listen to all the facts, instead relying on the hate and race baiting of some ‘leaders’ of the black community.
To be sure, racism still exists… Sadly, it exists on both sides of the color barrier, and many of those claiming to be fighting racism, are now perpetuating it, for without it, what else would they do?
