Female Golfer Gets Bitten by Deadly Black Widow Spider During Tournament What She Did Next Is Incredible

While playing in a pre-qualifier for the Women’s Australian Open in Yarralumla, Australia, Ladies European Tour rookie Daniela Holmqvist felt a sharp pain in her leg on the fourth hole. When she looked at her leg, she saw a black spider crawling off of her, which her caddies immediately identified as the deadly Black Widow.

The pain in her leg was instantaneous and severe. Holmqvist’s caddies told her that venom from a Black Widow can kill a child in just half an hour, so they knew something had to be done fast. Most people would probably head straight to the emergency room — but not Holmqvist.

As her leg started to swell, the golfer pulled a golf tee from her pocket, cut open her skin and squeezed the venom out. The Yahoo! Sports blog “Devil Ball Golf” speculates, quite accurately, that Holmqvist just may be the toughest golfer in the world.

“A clear fluid came out,” Holmqvist said. “It wasn’t the prettiest thing I’ve ever done, but I had to get as much of it out of me as possible.”

Then she finished the tournament, finishing out her round and shooting a 74. Unfortunately, she was four strokes short of qualifying, though she probably should’ve gotten a few strokes taken off for playing after getting bit by a Black Widow.

Holmqvist seems to be embracing her new nickname: “The spider woman.” Oh, and she also went to an actual doctor later on and is recovering nicely.

“So I went to see a doctor.. On a double dose of antibiotics and some other stuff 4 times per day. Also the wound needed some attention,” she tweeted, later adding: “I asked the doctor if I could do a workout today… Her response ‘the death-stare.’”

    Bogus story. The amount of venom that would be injected by the spider would fit on the head of a pin.
    The Black Widow’s venom drop for drop is the most toxic know, she certainly was in danger of becoming very ill, but it would be impossible for her to extract it because of the tiny quantity.

    Or you could just take it as good advice. Doing something that is unwise does not necessarily make you brave. Many times there is a thin line between bravery and stupidity. Forging forward without knowledge, and thereby putting yourself or others in unnecessary danger does not make you a hero.
    13000 people in the US died last year in the US from just Methicillin resistant Staph, and Flesh eating Strep. Both of these just two of the numerous bacteria that could be introduced by sticking a golf tee into your leg. Over 100,000 people died in the US of infection last year. Infections such as Flesh eating Strep can become apparent within hours, and lead to limb loss and death within 24 hours. Between 1950, and 1989 there were 63 deaths from Black widow bites typically in people with other comorbid conditions.

    Actually you could just take this as good advice in the event you ever get bitten by a black widow, and you are wrong about that it takes awhile for an infection to take hold. People die every day of infections in hospitals all over our developed country. Some bacteria have become very resistant to anti-biotics, and in fact evidence of an infection can appear quickly. Flesh eating Strep infections can lead to limb loss and/or death in under 24 hours in an otherwise perfectly healthy young person.

    Could you imagine the frenzy if BHO had been bitten by any kind of spider? …The Secret Service would be apoplectic, The MSM would be absolutely bonkers, His cabinet would be fleeing to non-extradition countries and BHO would be crying like a little girl.

    Sorry but that was not venom coming out Black widows are not as deadly as many think it can be very painful yes but not deadly seeking help is advisable. I have been bitten by many a black widow it stings like heck and I didn’t feel very good for half a day but that was it. Where I lived as a kid growing up was Black widow heaven they were everywhere hundreds of the little black monsters but it was imposable to avoid them as they hide under almost anything and everything I would find the fuzzy egg balls all over the place.

    I say whoopee she knew she was ok a little squeeze for good luck and back to work.

    Been stung by a scorpion one time also was very sick for one day that was it

    This one time i was playing golf in combat and someone shot me in the leg , and i put a tourniquet on it and stopped the bleeding , and finished playing my round of combat golf. …….lol…..this is just common sense that you take care of your self.

    It was a late summer day my son had made the all stars baseball team,I had showed up early for his practice no one was their yet,I had to take a dump so I headed off to the blue room(port a potty) Sat down,but I had not noticed the web that was just bellow the seat. All of a sudden I felt a pain in my balls(nut’s,marbles ******) I looked down and their was the biggest black widow I have ever seen,I rushed into the emergence room,they told me they couldn’t do much for me I would just have to wait and see. It took weeks to fully recover from this bit my balls turned black and swelled to the size of plumbs.

    Back in the late 80′s there was a motorcycle roadracer, who’s name I forget, that during a race experienced what is called a ‘tank-slapper’. The cause of that is usually an event that causes the motorcycle to go into into violent oscillation. Generally the bike throws the rider. In the case, the guy was launched off of the seat, but landed back on the tank. He managed to regain control and *finished* the race. The catch? When he landed on the tank, it crushed a testicle. Lesser men would have tottered off the track and crawled away to die…
