Heroic ‘Super Dad’ Dies Protecting His 11-Year-Old Daughter From Armed Home Invaders

A heroic father is dead after he tried to protect his 11-year-old daughter from two heavily armed men during a home invasion.

Police say the incident occurred late Tuesday night in Miami after two black males entered the home with the intent to rob. The dad, identified as Maurice Harris, 36, jumped up and fought the suspects when they attempted to enter his 11-year-old daughter’s bedroom. The dad was fatally shot “several times” during the scuffle.

Certainly a father and husband’s worst nightmare, the two armed men also held Harris’ wife at gunpoint during the home invasion, according to the victim’s mother-in-law Annie Streeter.

“One of the guys tried to get to his daughter’s room, he jumped up and they were fighting back and forth,” Streeter told WSVN-TV. “I guess that’s when the gun went off.”

Harris was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“We call these two men beasts. These men are beasts…They storm inside the house. A little girl was asleep when she was surprised by the gunfire. The father was just trying to protect her,” a spokeswoman from Miami police told the Miami Herald.

Neighbors are recognizing Harris as a real hero. “Unfortunately, he died but he’s super dad,” Terry Jones told WSVN-TV. “I hope I have that much courage if something like that would’ve happened to me.”

Once again the Police ( Government ) arrived to draw a chalk line around the dead body(s). Government can not protect you, even if they really, really want to do so. Support Legally Armed Citizens. Gun controil and Gun free zones get good people KILLED !

  By the way, whatever happened with that story about Autumn Pasquale? You know, the 12 year old whiter girl that was killed for her bike parts. It seems that as soon as the MSM discovered the two teen killers where black, that the story was no longer worthy.
  
  I wonder why the MSM did not make a hero of Autumn? Perhaps it was because unlike Trayvon, she was not found with THC in her system, the school never busted her for pot, nor did authorities ever find her with burglary tools, and jewelry not belonging to her.

I am female — I do know what I am doing but, with that said the average person a woke in the middle of the night without understanding muscle memory aka proper training mindset is going to be so stressed out– missing is what will happen !!! along with having 2 shots and more bad guys thank you I will keep my 30 !!   It might sound crazy, but my wife and I have discussed and planned how we would handle such an attack. I would hope that if somebody or multiple people were to kick in my door that I would be able to get to my firearm in time, but if not my job is to get between the intruders and my family and hopefully give the wife time to get one of our many firearms. We both know we are to fight till death to save our children, because nowadays you never know what the intruders want. Too many times people submit thinking they only want money and then they will leave, but end up unarmed and the women and the children are left at the mercy of sick deranged people. We know that disarming ourselves and surrendering is not an option. This man is a hero, but I wish he had armed himself.

The answer is because blacks killing whites is a common crime it happens everyday but a white killing a black now thats a story. other would argue that MSNBC,ABC,NBC,CBS,AND CNN along with the majority of printed news won’t run the story for fear of generating racial out rage among the whites race.   @ Country This is only how we have handled home security and again this is what we have done ,, the training my hubby was a part of is close quarters the worst nightmare for them to face at times in urban enviro getting in silently as possible – fast – we brought this to our home ,, this is not about getting out its about someone getting in take your standard door on either side there is studding put in hangers ( holders ) to it by 3 sets set apart abt 2 – 3 feet buy 1/2 in steel pipes it is the katy bar the door ,, even if door is somewhat kicked in they still have to manage to climb through that space givin average size of a man lol you will hear this going on believe me ,, windows he is making custom sanded side plywood 3/4 inch thick and doing the same to all windows and we remove them when we want light ,, remember that if your family is at home and you are not this will help keep them safe .. again this is what we opted for and it is cheap – better than an alarm system – its a barrier between your self and the bad guys and then fire at will I hope this helps and gives you idea’s

  Yes..and I am guessing that the police have not even caught the perps..This also brought to mind the staggering robbery/kill rate here in this country..and Chris Kyle..I searched the penal code in Texas and found that there seemed to be nothing to support being able to charge Eddie Ray Routh with Capital murder..as I always thought that was reserved for killing a police officer..but then they came out and said that when a killing happened in the commission of a crime..such as Routh taking Kyles car..that made it a capital offense..If that is the case..then why aren’t guys like these charged with capital offenses? You never hear of anyone being charged with that unless it is an officer killing..they usually serve a few years and are back on the streets..

  I hand out NRA stickers to all my friends and ask them to put them on their windows, doors, and cars. Even if they don’t own or hate guns, that sticker puts doubt in the minds of armed monsters that there could be a gun in that house. When a police officer stops a car with a NRA sticker on the window, they are put a little at ease knowing that NRA people are law abiding and not dangerous. When I travel to other cities on business, I always place an NRA sticker on the rented car so local monsters think twice that I may be armed.

  I have never lived in a neighborhood that rough. I have lived in a neighborhood rough enough that is was in 1/2 a mile of 2 murders. Also one of the near residents had 2 pit bulls. Why? I don’t know he lived in a townhouse & there could not have been sufficient room for the dogs.
  
  But If I had lived in Recife, I would have lived in the same neighbor hood as you. As it was I lived 2 blocks (large ones) from Mario Andretti in the less wealthy section of the suburb. I only lived there after some arms were viciously twisted. Had they not been I would have lived in a house at the end of the run way of Congonhas.
  
  Personally, I think you live in the Northeast Corridor & work for an outfit like Media Matters.

  Why would I not live in that neighborhood? Because I am smart enough, lucky enough & make enough to live in Red districts that are not run by Democrats. It comes down to crime, schools, taxes & then everything else. You average blue area fails. So no I would not live in that district. Although I would live in a district/neighborhood that was predominantly nonwhite. But those people would have conservative & not liberal values whatever their color. That is the difference.

This is so heartbreaking perhaps he wouldn’t be dead if he had been armed as well. This will greatly increase if they continue to pass “gun control” laws. They will be armed we won’t. Even if they say just stricter background checks what will those involve. Will it say if you ever took a anti-depressant you can’t have a gun? You really need to wonder what they will be checking.

  Were there guns in the house but they were taken by surprise? Or were they disarmed by Federal or Florida statute? Or had they bought into the Progressive Screeds to be a “good peasant”?
  Florida law is easy to get voting rights back after felony, but near impossible to get gun rights back. That alone, might be right, might be wrong, but should not be that different a standard.
  Federal law retroactively changed the punishment for domestic violence (while dropping the standards required to convict a male) to include gun prohibition.
  He might not have been able to legally have a gun, and that makes a difference.
  And when that disarmament is known, it makes for a more appealing target in an otherwise gun owning state,

I would rather be a killer of thugs and possibly be in jail than a dead hero. Too bad he was not armed. Too bad his daughter was not armed. This could have been a lot worse. The dad’s effort was heroic. I applaud him for that. If I am ever in the same situation, I hope my effort is more effective than his. RIP

  His daughter was only 11. A gun represents lethal force, the kind you train your kid to handle under supervision on the shooting range. That does not mean you let an 11 year old keep a pistol in her nightstand !!

There are many youth capable of handling weapons and more would be capable if parents and adults wouldn’t run in the corner and hide whenever someone makes a PC statement.   1FreeVoice is free to be as ignorant as they wish. I had a semi auto .22LR High Standard pistol given to me at age 7. By 11 I had 14 guns, 12ga, .410/22 over/under, 30-30, Nylon 66, and others. All in my room throughout my childhood. I was more competent with firearms at 11 than you are as an adult. Had this incident occurred in my home I would have saved my dad as well as saving taxpayers from supporting two worthless evil thugs. Also, I would have saved all future victims from these thugs. So take your ‘moral sense’ and stick it. Nearing the end of my life and a couple traffic tickets are the worst offenses I have ever been guilty of. You are clueless as to what children taught well are capable of. In fact your mindset is so prevalent today I see little to no hope for the future of this nation.

If I had a son he would look like Maurice Harris. I will let others pick the “sons” they want, (for the political agenda they want to promote at the moment). Mr. Harris did what is right and paid the ultimate price, but his daughter is safe. Perhaps the next time the two robbers, examples of “the oppressed”, will pick a house where the father has a gun also and they can then meet their maker.

And yet, the morons on the left say “you don’t need an AR15. You don’t need that to protect yourself.” Well I know someone who was a victim of a similar home invasion. He fought off 3 guys with handguns with his Colt AR15. FYI, he went through a whole 30 round mag and half way through another one before it was over. 2 of them escaped wounded and were later arrested and 1 took 4 rounds to the torso(he left in one of those nice black plastic bags), while my friend, who was about 55 at the time, was unharmed. This man is a hero dad. It’s just too bad he wasn’t equipped to deal with a situation this bad. I feel for his family.

  Oh this was an OK Corral type deal. He was in a hallway shooting around a wall and the bad guys were in the dining room. I think he was firing em off as fast as he could. He had a coupler on the mags so he had 60 rounds ready to go. I’d imagine that in that type situation, your aim might be a little off due to the adrenaline. I know I’d rather not have to experience that. But then again, I’m better armed and 30 years younger than he is.

How big was the “gun free zone” this time? Without further information I would say there should have been an alarm and when the alarm went off Mom & Dad should have been armed in less than a minute. This is becoming the norm and we better get used to it by being ready for these issues.

“See, a gun wouldn’t have helped in this situation, he should have just let them take what they wanted and he would be alive today. Fighting back did nothing but get him killed. If we just ban all guns, this would not have happened.”

“When they catch these animals, public execution with a dull, rusty axe. Or if that is too much, life in prison. And everytime a gun is used in any crime, 20 years, minimum.”

  same should apply to law enforcement. no right to enter a private residence without owner’s/guest permission unless there is a “clear and present” danger to the home owner’s/guest’s life. no exceptions. period. your home is your castle. someone enter’s without your permission, unload on ‘em. if your wanted, cops are being paid by the hour. cut off the power and wait in a safe location for ‘em to come out.

But, before you blame the cops entirely, the fault falls entirely on our corrupt politicians, and ever corrupting court systems to include so many of the recent decisions from the SCOTUS.
