Heroic ‘Super Dad’ Dies Protecting His 11-Year-Old Daughter From Armed Home Invaders

A heroic father is dead after he tried to protect his 11-year-old daughter from two heavily armed men during a home invasion.

Police say the incident occurred late Tuesday night in Miami after two black males entered the home with the intent to rob. The dad, identified as Maurice Harris, 36, jumped up and fought the suspects when they attempted to enter his 11-year-old daughter’s bedroom. The dad was fatally shot “several times” during the scuffle.

Certainly a father and husband’s worst nightmare, the two armed men also held Harris’ wife at gunpoint during the home invasion, according to the victim’s mother-in-law Annie Streeter.

“One of the guys tried to get to his daughter’s room, he jumped up and they were fighting back and forth,” Streeter told WSVN-TV. “I guess that’s when the gun went off.”

Harris was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“We call these two men beasts. These men are beasts…They storm inside the house. A little girl was asleep when she was surprised by the gunfire. The father was just trying to protect her,” a spokeswoman from Miami police told the Miami Herald.

Neighbors are recognizing Harris as a real hero. “Unfortunately, he died but he’s super dad,” Terry Jones told WSVN-TV. “I hope I have that much courage if something like that would’ve happened to me.”

The gun went off???? The bad guy SHOT the good guy! It was a deliberate act on the part of a human being!

Where were the police? Aren’t they supposed to protect the citizenry?
Oops! My bad! The police are to enforce the law. They are not responsible for individual protection. That’s our responsibility, only some numbskulls don’t want us to do that. (banging forehead against the wall)

It is a man’s duty to protect his family. You can reasonably expect a criminal to be armed during a home invasion, so any man that does not arm themselves because they do not believe in guns is not a man and is a coward. God commands men to protect their families.

It goes beyond owning a gun: You must fortify your doors to give you time to respond to the threat. You must have a well practiced plan to safeguard your loved ones and protect them. God will judge this man’s decision to not be prepared in this dangerous world. Although only 1% of the population will ever need to defend themselves or family with a firearm, you must be prepared.

It is not an LEO’s job to protect your family. It is your job.

I want SOMEONE with the courage to do so, to ascertain the political persuasion of all criminals from now on. Want a D or an R beside the name of everyone arrested. (I would put serious money on over 90% being Democrats, liberal Democrats and Obama devotees, not just supporters, but worshippers. Next up, take the guns of all those that support confiscation, take the model of guns from those that support outlawing those models. Feinstein is such a complete hypocrite, as is 90% of Congress. So done with all of them. There is only one thing they care about and it’s their jobs and the back room wheeling and dealing to enrich themselves. Disgusting what has become of America.

  I completely agree with you on the epitaph, but if he would of walked into the hallway with a saiga 12 the head line would read… Father shoots 2 men dead trying to get into his daughters room. Charges are not expected and will receive key too the city. (Last part not likely but shoud be)

It would have been a much better “super dad” story had this man prepared ahead of time for such a contingency. Hindsight is always 20/20, but if you love your family you MUST think about such things and prepare accordingly. The vast majority of us will never have to deal with such a situation (thankfully), but if it comes, it comes quickly and it’s very violent. You have to be ready.

Get armed, get trained, get proficient and NEVER go far from a firearm (even at home!).

Ever see that movie Funny Games? If you’re ever feeling a bit complacent with your home security, watch it…it will get you on the right track.
