Group of Second Amendment-Supporting Gun Makers Now Refusing to Sell Arms to Law Enforcement in New York (And Other Gun-Restricting States)

This story has been updated to add two additional gun makers and sellers to the list of those no longer patronizing law enforcement in states that do not support the Second Amendment.

Since New York State enacted its restrictive new gun laws, many manufacturers have sent that state (and others) a message: If local governments are going to severely restrict the ability of citizens to own guns, then these companies will not be selling to law enforcement in those areas.

Among the gun manufacturers sending that message:

Olympic Arms posted a press release on the company’s Facebook page earlier this week. Their intentions were quite clear.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Olympic Arms is a staunch believer in and defender of the Constitution of the United States, and with special attention paid to the Bill of Rights that succinctly enumerates the security of our Divinely given Rights. One of those Rights is that to Keep and Bear Arms.

Legislation recently passed in the State of New York outlaws the AR15 and many other firearms, and will make it illegal for the good and free citizens of New York to own a large selection of legal and safe firearms and magazines. We feel as though the passage of this legislation exceeds the authority granted to the government of New York by its citizens, and violates the Constitution of the United States, ignoring such SCOTUS rulings as District of Columbia v. Heller – 554, U.S. 570 of 2008, McDonald v. Chicago – 561 U.S. 3025 of 2010, and specifically the case of United States v. Miller – 307 U.S. 174 of 1939.

Due (to) the passing of this legislation, Olympic Arms would like to announce that the State of New York, any Law Enforcement Departments, Law Enforcement Officers, First Responders within the State of New York, or any New York State government entity or employee of such an entity – will no longer be served as customers.

EFI, LLC has a long-standing policy of not selling to law enforcement in states that restrict private gun ownership. TheBlaze interviewed EFI’s President Melinda Meador on the subject. Her statement was quite succinct:

“We refuse to recognize law enforcement exemptions on gun control. If a product that we manufacture is not legal for a private citizen to own in a jurisdiction, we will not sell that product to a law-enforcement agency in that jurisdiction.”

The company’s policy supports a broad market strategy for sales. Meador reminded us that “law enforcement sales don’t make up a significant portion of the market.”

The York Arms website is one that did not mince words on the company’s policy as it relates to gun sales for New York.

Based on the recent legislation in New York, we are prohibited from selling rifles and receivers to residents of New York. We have chosen to extend that prohibition to all governmental agencies associated with or located within New York. As a result we have halted sales of rifles, short barreled rifles, short barreled shotguns, machine guns, and silencers to New York governmental agencies.

For “civilian” customers residing in New York:
At your choice, we will:

  • complete your order and ship to a dealer of your choice outside of NY
  • refund your payment in full
  • hold your items here for up to 6 months, at no charge – if you are in the process of leaving NY and taking residence in another state.

For LE/Govt customers in New York:

Your orders have been cancelled.

Texas-based La Rue Tactical also posted their new policy on Facebook on February 8th:

Effective today, in an effort to see that no legal mistakes are made by LaRue Tactical and/or its employees, we will apply all current State and Local Laws (as applied to civilians) to state and local law enforcement / government agencies. In other words, LaRue Tactical will limit all sales to what law-abiding citizens residing in their districts can purchase or possess.

Templar Custom of North Carolina is a North Carolina-based maker of precision rifles. CEO Bob Reynolds spoke with TheBlaze on Friday and reinforced the company’s position as posted on Facebook.

We will not sell arms to agents of the state of New York that hold themselves to be “more equal” than their citizens.

As long as the legislators of New York think they have the power to limit the rights of their citizens, in defiance of the Constitution, we at Templar will not sell them firearms to enforce their edicts.

Online retailer Cheaper Than Dirt stepped up with a supportive statement on their Facebook page on Friday the 15th.

Recently, companies such as LaRue Tactical and Olympic Arms have announced that they will no longer sell prohibited items to government agencies and personnel in states that deny the right to own those items to civilians. It has been and will continue to be Cheaper Than Dirt’s policy to not to sell prohibited items to government agencies and/or agents in states, counties, cities, and municipalities that have enacted restrictive gun control laws against their citizens. We support and encourage other companies that share in this policy.

In addition to these very public statements, gun-owner groups have been promoting these statements while also asking members and fans to contact three other manufacturers with significant sales to law enforcement in New York. One such group, Guns Save Lives, is actively asking people to write letters / emails to Sig Sauer, Smith & Wesson, and Glock and pressure them to stop selling to police in New York. Those three companies happen to be the trio of manufacturers recommended by the NYPD for use by their officers.

Calls and email inquires about any changes to their law enforcement sales policies have not been returned by Glock, Sig Sauer, and Smith & Wesson. If there is any additional information available, we will update this story.

Well, when they are sporting Russian and Chinese made weapons, at least the cycle of government will be fulfilled. Everything else is being imported from those nations, why not law enforcement goods. I can’t wait to see the first NYPD squad with fully automatic AK-47s slung over their shoulders.

“What part of SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED” do they not understand??

Colorado’s state assembly (House of Representatives) looking today to:

      1. Limit magazine capacity to 15 rounds, (Magpul has indicated they may cease operations here and set up shop elsewhere).
      2. Ban concealed carry on college campus, apparently they didn’t learn from Virginia Tech. Apparently they think our Constitutional rights end when we walk onto the campus supported by tax dollars.
      3. Require universal background checks for all firearm transactions.
      4. A tax on gun sales, to pay for the huge number of transactions currently taking place.

Call the Colorado capitol switchboard to let your opinion be known, 303-866-2904. The Democrats control the State House, Senate, and Governor’s seat. We are screwed. Hunters and anglers combined contribute approximately 1.2 Billion dollars to the state’s economy, and 21,000 jobs. Wanna guess what will happen to those numbers if these and other infringements are enacted?

Below is a link to the Governor’s Office. It has phone, fax, and an email link directly to the Governor. I am asking each of you to POLITELY contact the Governor and point out the numbers from my comment above. ALSO, you can mention that if these actions are taken you will not feel inclined to: hunt, fish, ski, or vacation in Colorado. Nor will you feel inclined to consume products produced in Colorado, etc.

      GOOD!

The police in America have become tyranny’s first line of defense. Police only care about where their next paycheck is coming from. The police are the black knights of the US government and we have seen how one man in California held off over 2000 armed police single handed. We have seen how two nations in the Middle East without a Navy or an Air Force shoved the US Army’s face into the sand.

Good for these weapon and ammo manufacturers. I will certainly give my business to them since I do NOT live in NY. These same companies also need to look at Illinois, Cali, and Colorado and any other state with restrictive gun laws which target their citizens. Plus any weapons manufacturers who live in these states should consider a move of their business to states like TX, OK, and Florida. These states in particular are heavily armed and these companies would do a booming business.

90 million plus legal Firearm owners. Time to work as one – Time to cancel all vacations and/or conventions to these Anti-American States that want to Infringe on our Constitutional Rights. Time to stop doing Business with any Business in those States. Time to stop buying consumables and/or manufactured products from those States. It is all about the Dollar. Hurt them in their pocket books, make their profits decline, that is true change. Time to pull your money out of any Bank that will Freeze Firearm Manufacturers Accounts.

This is a very simple solution to a very serious problem: Firearms Owners will no longer do business with Anti-American entities who infringe on our Constitutional Rights. They wanted Change, well we will give them change. The Giant is Awake.

      1994 GUN CONTROL BILL:
“The bill energized the NRA and Republican base, and contributed to the Republican takeover of both houses in the 1994 mid-term elections. Many Democrats who had supported Clinton’s gun control measures were ousted, including Speaker Tom Foley. Clinton acknowledged that he had hurt Democrats with his victories.”

If they do want a gun all they have to do is have one of those gun turn in programs and give out some gift certificates. You wouldn’t catch me there if they were giving free trips from Oklahoma.

Well, I have to credit to the marketing departments of these companies. Any talk about gun control is great for the companies that make and sell guns. You’ve read that here. Whenever a there’s a mass murder of children in a school or adults in a theater or the religious in a Sikh temple, the issue of gun control is raised, and gun sellers cash in. Whenever guns are used to blow out children’s brains, and then someone says that maybe we should put some common sense gun control measures in place, gun sales skyrocket.

These gun sellers are riding the wave. Saying they won’t sell AR-15s to the police is nothing more than an advertisement for their AR-15s, and their sales are sure to increase. Money talks.

Despite what you might think, to the degree that gun deaths, gun suicides and mass murders with semi-automatic weapons raise the topic of gun control, gun sellers are happy because their sales are sure to dramatically increase. You’ve read that here haven’t you?

Don’t worry about this police department buying AR-15s. Thanks to the NRA, any felon, murderer, Al-Qaeda terrorist, Timothy McVeigh type, anyone hellbent on killing lots of people can easily obtain those kinds of weapons – either at a gun show or in the parking lot outside the gun show.

It’s easy to buy those guns, any terrorist can. This is just an advertisement for their guns.

Once again, you are chasing the shiny object the MSM throws you. Of all the murders in the US, less than 4% are done with a rifle of any type.

It is like your little tirade the other day against “cop killer” bullets. In the 20 year history of these Teflon bullets, not one time has a cop ever been killed by one. It is all MSM smoke and mirrors.

Over and over, you spout the lies of the MSM, but ignore the facts from the uniform crime reports, and the FBI stats.

Over 70% of all murders in the US are gang and drug related but not a peep about gangs from the MSM. They want weapons from the law abiding, not a war with gangs.

Blacks make up 12.5% of the pop, but do ½ of the nation’s murders. If we lowered black murder rates to the same as whites, we would lower the nations murder rate by almost 40% and save countless black lives. I want to save black lives, do you?

you, just like the MSM and democrats refuse to speak of black murder rates, becuase you are fine with it. The same party the fought to keep blacks as slaves, started the KKK, jim crow laws… is fine with blacks murdering blacks. Face it, you do not care about blacks, but you do want my rifle.

If you do not own a gun, you are not a true citizen, nor a conservative. you are a slave who relies on someone else to provide for your safety and freedom. The 2nd amendment is not just a right, it is a the duty of all free men and women to be armed.

@ MUDDY1 “Call the Colorado capitol switchboard to let your opinion be known, 303-866-2904. The Democrats control the State House, Senate, and Governor’s seat. We are screwed. Hunters and anglers combined contribute approximately 1.2 Billion dollars to the state’s economy, and 21,000 jobs. Wanna guess what will happen to those numbers if these and other infringements are enacted?”

I lived in CO for many years, born a raised. The texans would flood the state every hunting season. They own a lot of the land there. Then the californians showed up and “Californicated” Colorado. NO ONE has the guts to stop anything in what used to be a good state. No money will be held back. People today don’t speak with their pocket book. It’s too much trouble. Everybody just wants their continual piece of the pie. CO will not lose a dime over this. Another example of how people will not commit to doing the right thing. The mexicans own the city of Denver ( I”m hispanic so I know ) and many laws help the minorities while hindering the taxpayer. Ask me why I no longer call Colorado home.

“It is the ammo manufacturers we need to get to boycott government agencies. It will also solve the ammo shortage problem. Have them cancel government order of arms and ammo until they cease their assault on the 2nd amendment.” I think we all know that the government will just use some ” in the interest of national Security” clause and FORCE the ammo and gun manufacturers to sell them arms and ammo. We are a country that has gone crazy to allow elected officals to creat laws for or against absolutely everything. If some paparazi gets hit by a car because his head was up his butt instead of watching traffic we creat a law protecting the famous? Freaky. Somehow they’ll tax that too. The end of america is near, if it hasn’t already happened.

..What part of Due Process do you not understand ?…You have ..”…right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”…do we need a amendment every time we execute a prisoner found guilty of a capital offense ?…what happened to you “right” to life?…oh,you had due process and you lost it…the Bill of Rights con the US Constitution contain more than just the 2nd Amendment…NONE of your right can be infringed..UNLESS you have due process OR an Amendment..if NY wants to limited/infringe on certain guns AND follows due process, laws passed by elected officials is one way. Those citizens who disagree can file suit against the state and have that opinion heard before the Judicial branch of govt. to review what the Legislative may have done in violation of Law. In addition, the law can be reversed/amended/changed with the election of other elected officials. I think we all agree in some gun control, felons OK to have guns?..it’s ok as far as the 2nd amend goes..ok to have RPGs?..sure can’t infringe..crazy people? sure they have 2nd amend rights too !…So we all HAVE infringed and been infringed and don’t have much problems with it..NOW we are trying to see if further restrictions are what WE the people want..I don’t by the way..we are far to violent to leave ourselves unarmed…but some restrictions “might” help in some odd way..a 10 round clip suits

Normally I’m pretty civil with people who disagree with me. I’ll make an exception for you, because apparently you don’t get it. I’m going to say what I have to say, and maybe it will be published here. Maybe not. The Bill of Rights is more than simply the first Ten Amendments. They are a listing of human rights, not given to mankind, but endowed upon us by the very nature of our humanity. I, as a human being walking around on this planet, minding my own business, have a few things I am allowed to do, and no self-righteous ******* like yourself has the right to take them away. For example, I can say whatever the he!! I want, and as long at it doesn’t physically cause harm to you, deal with it. I have the right to defend myself, and as long as I don’t hurt an innocent person doing so, get the he!! out of my way. You, as a representative of government, don’t have the right to store your soldiers in my home. Stay the he!! out of my house. No matter what I have been accused of, you can’t force me to talk about whatever it is you think I’ve done. The state I live in, because it is more easily changed by me than the larger federal government, has rights the feds can’t take away. This is not exclusive of any other rights I have, but in general, stay the fcuk out of my life, you busybody little prik, otherwise you may find yourself at the receiving end of something you never imagined. Mind your own dam business or the rest of us will make your business ours. Ge

Not to mention how they’ve been gouging their customers to make a fast buck (or millions) ‘cuz of the crippling parts and ammo shortages; caused, I might add, by those without the foresight to arm themselves BEFORE something like this happened.

It’s not as though the anti’s had legislation waiting in the wings for a tragedy (like Sandy Hook, et al) to happen so they could push their agenda! Right?

Look, I know this is preaching to the choir (excepting, of course, the trolls), but, right-minded citizens have GOT to arm themselves! They were openly talking about seizures on FOX-NEWS this afternoon! This is not joke, people. I truly wonder how long we have until the federal government makes their move.

And it’s not only the feds. many state governments – like New York – are pushing through wholly unconstitutional anti-gun measures – making criminals out of law-abiding, patriotic citizens. If you don’t think we are on the verge of a real shooting war – here, inside the US – you’ve got rocks in your head! Personally, that scares the hell out of me, BUT, we’re nearing the point of no return and I wish Glenn would stop whining like Ghandi and start speaking like a man. PREPPERLINK

FORMER11BRAVO & other like minded folks are laughing at you. So what if MAGPUL is charging more for an item. It’s called supply & demand. Right now there is high demand. I have acquired enough firearm provisions over the years, even those of my avatar. Now I have been storing food & seeds because if you visit the local supermarket one cannot be but appalled by the cost of feeding a family. Also, have you noticed the farmland that was around when you were a child has either become a strip mall, housing development, or state owned green acres? In the town of Warren N.J. there once stood a dairy farm. It became “preserved” by the state. All that stands there now are the two silos and some plastic cows for the new resident populations entertainment. A very creepy image in my eyes. I would just love to be able to walk into that barn & get a quart of the best chocolate milk that I enjoyed as a child. Now the farm is visited by the school children for field trips but there is no barn, cows, cats, milk, hay, chickens, or lesson to be learned other than the destruction of the food supply line . The thing that is most noticed by me & sadly missed is the odor of a farm. That cannot be replicated by technology. One less sense to be stimulated by this human being. And if anyone thinks that I am weird for that train of thought, how about that odor that is being emmitted from New York City everyday? Putrid, rank, & outright nauseating!

Well let’s hope the US military, US government and other local, county or state governments that buy guns from these gun manufacturers will stop buying them. No doubt any number of foreign corporations would be happy to provide replacement arms. Shouldn’t be a problem providing examples of the weapons they prefer so they can be copied. My guess is though these companies probably sell very little to police and the military and are just trying to jump on the anti-gun bandwagon and generate some sympathy sales. @JROOK,

hey moron. I hope they do buy those crap guns from other countries because after months of looking at various handguns I concluded that most, if not all, guns made in other countries basically suck. Recently had the opportunity to fire a Bersa .380 at the range and the damned slide would not lock in place. Soon as you slap a mag in the slide slams forward chambering a round. Very dangerous and speaks volumes about the quality….or lack of…..in Bersa manufactured weapons. On the other hand I’ve put 500 rounds through my Kimber and it’s still as solid as the day I bought it. No jams, no misfeeds, no problems at all. My dad has a Colt made WW2 era 1911 and the Kimber is of similar quality manufacture. His gun is maybe 60 years old, has fired thousands of rounds and is just now in slight need of a new barrel. Fired it this Christmas and it was nearly as accurate as my Kimber after all this time. With a new barrel would probably be a match. So, with that said, let the stupid cops get foreign made crap. I’ll chuckle when they jam, misfeed and just plain fall apart. Even the much vaunted Glock seemed like crap to me.

Sapper, that’s not a reflection on the quality of the Bersa 380, that’s how it’s designed. In fact, that’s how MOST pistols in that class are designed. It’s no less dangerous than many others out there. The Europeans don’t normally make slides that lock to the rear when you fire your last round either. That’s one of those innovations that Americans take for granted but the most of the rest of the world never adopted. There’s also a HUGE price difference between a Kimber and a Bersa as well. For the price of a Kimber, you can get 2 Bersas and 500 rounds of ammo. For those who can’t afford an $800-1500 handgun, or have hands too small to handle a full sized 1911, a Bersa is an acceptable choice. They’ve been in production for over 30 years, so they have to be fairly reliable.

Sapper – The Croatian made Springfield XD and XD-M are actually quite nice handguns.

I bought a Glock, because they were on sale for $499 at the time, but the XD-M comes with a Match grade barrel, steel sights, and stainless steel mags.

If they weren’t over $600 at the time of purchase, I would have preferred the XD-M.

If they do, I hope they’ll sell me a Colt Python at a reasonable price before it happens. I saw a couple at a recent gun show with asking prices close to $2,000!

Sure, they’re great firearms, but they’re still revolvers comparable to many others in the $600 range.

Fubared, Remember that NERF guns are only legal if they have an orange tip. I wonder why no one has yet thought to rob a place carrying a REAL gun painted to look like an NERF gun. In this bass-ackwards era it seems like you could get away with it so long as the video proof (security video) showed you had a ‘fake’ gun.

I sent my senators and congressman emails awhile back saying that there should be a law saying that bodyguards who guard political leaders and rich people are subject to the same laws the general public is subjected to, including both the types of weapon they can have and where they can carry it. If gun control is good for us, it’s good for all of us. And if a law like this did get passed, you’d see a sudden end to rich famous media people supporting gun control, and the President would most likely change his position on it too.

And we should go one step further and ask our Reps/Sens. to support the Second Amendment or else not stand for re-election. If they do they should be voted out and during the primaries if possible. Our Fed/State Reps/Sens. take the oath that they will support our Constitution and we should hold them to this oath. Not doing so is a lie and should be punished with a re-call etc.

@ righthanddrive “And we should go one step further and ask our Reps/Sens. to support the Second Amendment or else not stand for re-election.” I have asked many times for Senator Baucus of Montana to state his position on gun control. I get a canned statement response that he “appreciates my input..” blah blah blah. He has his finger out of his arse testing the wind. Hoping someone else will make the deciding vote that he would be against. These guys that are up for re-election stay in the background and claim, right up to Election Day, that they are all for your citizen’s rights and for the constitution and so on. They let the ones who AREN’T up for re-election do the dirty work. Politics is a dirty word. They would NEVER sponsor a bill for term limits and cut their own throats. That’s what’s wrong and it will never be fixed. POWER to the politicians, we can eat dirt.

I personally made a point to tell everyone i knew and met to buy guns and ammo years ago and most did. The people that have to buy now ( if they can find them ) to protect them selves I feel for. The only way most will be able to afford this is if the manufactures can keep the cost resonable.

@ FNGRNFAN “I personally made a point to tell everyone I knew and met to buy guns and ammo years ago and most did.” Now tell them to ONLY PAY CASH. The government can and will pull receipts from dealers to determine who has what kind of weapon and how much ammo they have. Heck they’re probably doing it now. Trust no one. They are monitoring this site and know who and you are who you are affiliated with and when to knock on your door. Someone from “national security” knocked on my door last week. The premise was to ask questions about a neighbor. Now watch how quick this will be pulled from the Blaze. Copy it when you see it and look for it later. It’s too late folks. They take this site VERY seriously. Do you really think those “trolls” are anything but plants? I notice at times they try to spin you away from topic and then people seem to concentrate on their words, like flies to you know what. When this site gets pulled are you prepared to find other ways to communicate with like minded people? Bet not. This nation has been on the “divide and conquer” road for so long I don’t think anyone recognizes it for what is is.

Social engineering 101. Want to increase egg prices ? proport there may be a shortest of chickens. Want to Increase gun/ammo sales plant the seeds of an upcoming ban. The “impending” ban need never happen as long as they can keep the fear alive their products will contine to demand record prices. If things look like a compromise is forthcoming release the claim of drones flying over America under the control of the currrent administration and watch sales skyrocket. In that logic, it would seem to be Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein, Reid, and 0 would be the biggest stockholders in firearms manufacturing and ammo production. 0 is the best firearms salesmen ever, without doubt. Fear buying is sad on it’s face. Scarier still-or funny depending on your lean- is that even libs and progs have joined in the masses buying fever. Somehow I don’t think that they will be lacking in any demand. Nor any weapons manufacturer. The demand is such now that they don’t need to sell to the government to sell out of their entire stock, especially if they are producing any AR-15 look a likes or making .223 or .22 or .40 or 9mm ammunition. I wish Colt, Remington, and S&W would take the same stance. Imagine if Colt Firearms started only selling to civilians, and quit making the M-16, or produced a semi-auto only version for civilian consumption.

Granted this legislation is an unworkable legal nightmare, BUT since a Democrat proposed it and they seem to be able to get away any number of ridiculous things these days ( due to the MSM carrying their water and propaganda ) , gun manufacturers better get busy on the legal issues of this next bit of gun targeting.

More than ready and quit candidly, I’m tired of Government continually poking me on the chest. You work for us representatives, you don’t work on your own twisted theories of what you think is good for us. Bravo Olympic, La Rue, EFI, York, Templar and CTD. I’ve been a Glock customer for years and today was the day my Wife and I were going to pick up her Glock 17 and my 34 as I’m already owner of 21 (2). We’ve agreed to wait another week or so to see of Glock issues any statement supporting its customer base but most of all our 2nd amendment rights. If not we’ll select our firearms from those listed above. We need private industry to follow suit here in both gun MFG and ammunition MFG. Most now view Obama and Napolitano’s ammunition grab as a monopoly and any additional shipment to the government is seen as a potential citizen casualty and that is so unacceptable so be forewarned ammunition MFG’s, your either pro 2nd amendment, and continue to make sure your customer base’s needs are met or you support this banning, there is no middle here. These companies cannot be allowed to sell to the government, to inflict casualties upon us then then sell to us to defend our rights? This makes zero sense. Does anyone know what ammunition companies are supplying DHLS – TSA – DOJ? Time to exercise consumer power with those that say they support the 2nd amendment but by way of government sales DO NOT! The piper will be paid.
