A couple celebrating Valentine’s Day at Pittsburgh’s swanky Eleven restaurant had a bit of a surprise when their waiter brought them the check: Someone else had paid for it.
All $250 dollars worth of it.
Not only that, but the mystery donor also left them a note:
Random act of kindness.
The only request is that someday you pay it forward.
In the meantime, enjoy your youth, enjoy friendship, enjoy love. Be good to each other and good luck.
The grateful recipient of this random act of charity snapped a photo of the note and uploaded it to Reddit:
“Random couple sitting next to us on [Valentine’s Day] footed our $250 bill,” the caption reads.
The Reddit user claims dining at Eleven was by no means the norm for the couple.
“We are college students. This was the nicest restaurant I’ve been to in my life. Definitely an exception,” the user writer. “Back to ramen noodles for the rest of the semester — but we wanted to do something special.”
The college student also notes that he made eye contact with the “adorable older couple” who paid their bill, but was unable to thank them because they were gone by the time their waiter brought them the note.
“I tipped the waiter very well because the dude is working on [Valentine’s Day],” the Reddit user adds.
Final thought: As usual, we feel it’s necessary to caution readers that this photo might be a fake (it wouldn’t be the first time that someone has faked a restaurant receipt/note).
However, who would fake something like this? What’s the point? Also, we don’t care if it’s a hoax. We want it to be true.
