UNREAL: Man Sleeps Through What He Thinks Are Noisy Hotel Guests, Wakes Up to Find His Room Riddled With Bullet Holes (See the Pics)
TheBlaze’s Jon Seidl contributed to this report.
–
Imagine you’re sleeping in a hotel bed and you’re woken up by a loud noise. You get up in a groggy and disoriented state and assume it’s coming from the guests on the floor above, so you go back to sleep. You wake in the morning to discover that your hotel room is riddled with bullet holes and you’re probably lucky to be alive.
That was reality for one man who checked into a Hilton hotel in Phoenix, Ariz. on Thursday. Reddit user “walterwhitmanwhite” posted several photos of the aftermath on Reddit Friday morning in a post titled, “I nearly got shot last night and I didn’t even know it.” The photos, which show shattered glass, peppered drywall and even a spent bullet by his bedside, are incredible:
See the rest of the pictures in the Reddit post, here.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department told TheBlaze in an email that someone did indeed fire “several shots” through the west windows of the Hilton Phoenix Suites at around 2:30 a.m. Friday morning. “No one was injured and it is unknown who or why the shots were fired. We don’t know what type of gun was used either,” Thompson wrote.
The Redditor said his room was on the third floor and two of the bullets “entered near floor level, ricocheted off the ceiling and ended up in the walls.” Even more terrifying, he said police found a third bullet right next to his bed. He recalled more of the incident:
“This is in an all-suite corporate hotel in a business plaza with 24hr security and cameras. I woke up of course but was disoriented and thought the people above were doing something dumb at 2am so I went back to sleep. It wasn’t until I found the fallen plaster in the morning that I realized what happened. The guests in the two other rooms that got shot did the same thing. All the bullets must have passed within a couple of feet of me. One might even have hit the side of the bed…The cop found the bullet in the photo next to the bed.”
After another Reddit user encouraged him to demand the hotel compensates him for the incident, “walterwhitmanwhite” said he didn’t hold the hotel responsible for what happened and, all things considered, he was fine.
“Part of me wants free stuff cos, you know, FREE STUFF! But the hotel was not negligent. It’s not like the gunman was inside the hotel property or anything, and they responded appropriately,” he wrote. “They offered me enough loyalty points to cover the night’s stay. I guess that is fair.”
“I could have asked for more than one night but in the end there is no point being greedy and they didn’t offer it,” he added.
Sgt. Thompson told TheBlaze he didn’t expect any additional details to surface anytime soon. When asked if there was any evidence to suggest involvement of Mexican drug cartels, which are active in Phoenix and throughout Arizona, Thompson replied “absolutely not.”
Messages left for Hilton Phoenix Suites and Hilton’s public relations department were not immediately returned.

Posted on February 16, 2013 at 9:43amIt is not a rush to judgment out west to assume illegals are the cause of this shooting–all you have to do is watch the liberal media news–even they can’t hide the fact that 90%+/- crime is committed by illegals and/or mexican drug cartel members. Get in the real world – time to stop denying that all people crossing the border are innocent, decent people looking for a better life. That is not so true.

Posted on February 16, 2013 at 12:47pmare you a troll pretending to be a conservative? I do not understand how a rationally thinking individual would actually write that over 90% of crime is carried out by illegals.
Don’t get me wrong, I am strongly against illegal immigration and believe that they need to be deported and follow the proper procedure for becoming a citizen, but please do not sound so ignorant. You hurt all of conservatism when you say these things.

Posted on February 16, 2013 at 2:22pmIt probably is gang activity. In Arizona most gangs are Mexican nationals.
What I don’t understand is why this is “news” when this type of thing has been happening to our major cities since at least the early 1990s.
Portland, Oregon, for example, had over 1000 homicides in 1995. Every day, 2 or 3 people would be killed by gangs.
Today, the area is now a virtual hotbed of illegal activity. All of it springing from their love of drugs. People use drugs, their morals disappear, and you end up with a population that either “benefits” from drugs, or they have gone into crime thanks to losing their morality.
Indeed, if the Left gave up its drugs, some 8000+ of 11000 homicides in the U.S. would not happen, and the 100,000+ homicides in Mexico would have no motive. Drug money from Democrats fuels them.
About now, someone is trying to claim that legalization will “solve” the problem. Oregon was legal from ’73 to ’97. No end of problems and exponentially more crime. Drug crime became everywhere. Canada is experiencing the same thing. So is California, Washington, and Colorado. There is no way to prevent evil in a person using drugs to get high. It always happens with prolonged use with the motive of getting high/escaping. Their morals go, you hear their family lamenting “I can’t trust him/her anymore” and eventually you read about them in the newspaper.

Usually its the left making up numbers and statistics. So my guess is you losers are really ******** trying to make conservatives look bad. Its really the only explanation.

Posted on February 16, 2013 at 10:57amPhoenix is a big place, but suffice to say staying downtown is never a good idea. The PHX pd is decent, but everyone is a suspect and city politics prevent them from taking on the cartels in any serious way. Think of Phx as 4 zones. Central, West, East and rural Pinal county. The Eastern part is by far the safest and the Central and West the least. Every night on the news there is another murder or shooting on the west side. It is so common no-one pays much attention. Yet rural Pinal County and the East Valley are generally maligned for being favorable to guns, property rights and conservative. There are plenty of areas in this town where a punk cartel thug or gang-banger little be-otch would get a devestating volume of accurate return fire and thus they don’t go to those places. The Old West is still alive, but the villains don’t wear black hats or red sashes.

Just wanted to say thanks for your kind words! I do dislike our culture of entitlement and blame and don’t want to profit from it.
Also, maybe it helps that I own rental properties. If this had happened to one of my tenants I would be very upset for them (more than I was when it happened to me) but I would not consider myself liable for any compensation unless I had done something negligent. The hotel management was not negligent (since the shooter was outside, not on property) and behaved the same way as I would have done in their situation.

The police did not rule out the possibility of a cartel being involved with their answer. They only stated that there was no EVIDENCE found to make that connection. It is BECAUSE they don’t know who did it, that they cannot link it to a cartel this early in the investigation. Let’s be fair and not stuff words into peoples mouths here.

Posted on February 16, 2013 at 12:07pmA better answer would be ‘no evidence relating to the drug cartel has been found yet’ instead of the absolute answer the police provided. The implication is that they may not want to release any info relating to drug connections.
And can’t the police determine the type of gun from the bullets? It may not be definitive, but at least close?

Posted on February 15, 2013 at 9:15pmRiddled huh?!?
I see one bullet hole in a window, some shrapnel type damage to the wall paper from broken glass and a single bullet that was nearly stopped as its velocity was transferred into the glass that did do a somewhat surprising amount of damage. The hollow back of the bullet suggests to me that it was a high velocity rifle round.
Because the bullet transferred its energy into the glass and propelled the glass forward rather than punching a much cleaner hole in the glass and penetrating the wall, the shot was most likely fired from a considerable distance. Probably the shot was fired from greater than three hundred yards and was barely audible from the room. The impact on the glass would have been a considerable popping sound, but would have had little reverberation due to the long cracks. Also there were no large shards of glass falling to make the typical broken window sounds. The glass hitting the opposing wall would have made an odd, brief rattle.
He did wake up, but understandably could not place the noise as an immediate threat, dismissed it as noise from above and went back to sleep.
The bullet on the floor and not embedded in the wall suggests that its energy was spent and was no longer a life threatening projectile.
In summary… I hate inflated media hype. Educate yourselves and tell the real story, it’s way more interesting than trying to pass every unusual event as “The Jaw Dropping Story of all Times!”

Posted on February 16, 2013 at 12:07amThe one that passed through the glass is embedded in the ceiling along with the one that passed through the wall about a foot below the window. The one found on what is obviously the bathroom floor ricocheted off the door jam which is steel and landed there relatively whole which indicates that it was probably 40 caliber handgun and judging from the spread it was probably a jacketed hollow point such as the ones I carry. I was in Los Angeles last night and can prove it. Also the trajectory indicates that it was probably fired at random from a moving vehicle from the street directly in front of the window. The one nearest to the floor was probably the first shot followed by the one in the wall above and forward of the first then came the one through the window, the last shot to enter the room in question but not necessarily the last shot. The pattern indicates that the driver was driving from right to left and possibly firing with one hand (failure to control recoil). The shooter was probably the driver of the vehicle. The wall shrapnel was caused when the other two bullets hit the cement ceiling.

Interesting, The pics posted tell quite a different story, but of course as is so often the case pictures don’t tell a thousand words… Or even anything close to the truth.
Sounds as if you have quite a bit of info that is not told by the pics posted… But one thing still rubs me a bit wrong. A hollow backed bullet is unusual for a pistol round that typically relies on maximum mass to transfer the most energy at closer ranges. Rifle rounds are often hollow in the back to maximize velocity and reduce the effects of wind and other external factors???

Nope, the bullet was not clearly on the bathroom floor. It was a granite counter top with a desk lamp sitting on it… Look at the tell-tale reflections. Given the size of a standard lightbulb clearly shown in the reflection, that is most definitely not a .40cal. The angle and direction of the main road outside also show a different story than the one that you depict.
Regardless, the pics show that a ton of evidence is available. It appears that the investigators are inept or hiding the truth.

Posted on February 16, 2013 at 9:30amI blew up (pun unintended) the photo. It looks like it may be just the jacket of a standard FMJ pistol round. This projectile possibly passed through multiple barriers and started tumbling after hitting the first barrier. Possible the first barrier flattened the tip , breached the jacket, and separated the core from the jacket. This possibly starting the peeling that makes it look like a hollow P. As it started to tumble, another barrier popped the lead core out. We do not know what it hit nor what the barriers were composed of so lots of possibilities. Weird stuff happens on ricochets. I get hit by frags all the time at my indoor range. I could name names of tip manufacturers that frag really bad, but no point in that. I handload a lot. Just a thought. I’m NO expert.

That being said, It sounds more reasonable to think that it may be cartel related as to how strong the officers conviction there was no evidence of that or anything else for that matter.

They likely will not know any more unless they arrest a guy carrying a gun that can be tied to the crime using ballistic forensics, or if someone comes forward who has knowledge of the shooting. It seems to me that when asked if there is evidence to link it to a cartel, the obvious answer is NO. Nobody said it was definitely not a cartel. Given what is known, it is equally possible to be some random 99 percentard shooting into the “all-suites corporate hotel”. The possibilities are too numerous to tie it to any one group or individual without evidence.
