Wait Until You Hear the Latest Left-Wing Conspiracy About the Tea Party — And Your Tax Dollars Funded the ‘Study’
Americans’ hard earned tax dollars were used to help fund a study that attempted to link the Tea Party movement to the tobacco lobby. The study argues that the Tea Party was not a spontaneous grassroots movement, but rather the brainchild of big tobacco.
Tea Party leaders quickly mocked the study’s conclusions, which were published earlier this month in the Tobacco Control journal. It was also reportedly presented by its actual authors at an on-campus symposium in San Francisco on Feb. 8. The research was conducted at the University of California-San Francisco.
“The Tea Party that we see in 2009 actually has decades of influence from tobacco and other corporate interests,” co-author Amanda Fallin said.
More from FoxNews.com:
The study was funded by federal taxpayer grants through the National Institutes of Health and its subsidiary the National Cancer Institute, both federal agencies. It’s difficult to tell how much grant money specifically went toward this study, but federal records show researchers at the university have received $7 million since 2007 to study tobacco issues.
The study argues that while conventional wisdom says the Tea Party launched in the spring of 2009, its “roots” lie in the tobacco industry efforts of the 1990s. The premise is that the group Citizens for a Sound Economy, a tobacco industry ally which opposed tobacco taxes and control in the ’90s, split a decade later into the conservative groups Americans for Prosperity and FreedomWorks, which have since linked up with part of the Tea Party movement. The study argues that their tactics and beliefs have remained constant by opposing new taxes and regulations.
[...]
However, opposing tobacco taxes is a relatively small part of their current agenda. And those two groups do not compose the entirety of the Tea Party movement. They work with a range of local and national Tea Party groups, but those groups — including the national Tea Party Patriots — have their own management.
Democratic leaders have routinely attempted to paint the Tea Party as a manufactured movement created to do the bidding to Wall Street fat cats and the “radical” conservatives. But the tobacco thing, that’s new.
“If you’re going to have a conspiracy theory, at least try to make it pass the laugh test… and this one doesn’t even do that,” AFP President Tim Phillips told FoxNews.com, adding that opposing tobacco taxes is “probably point-00001 percent of the effort.”
Tea Party Patriots co-founder Jenny Beth Martin said the student was “an example of the frivolous spending inside the government…that has landed us $17 trillion in debt.
The National Cancer Institute said in a statement to Fox News that NCI and NIH played no role in the selection of the research topic when it provided funds.

Posted on February 15, 2013 at 8:38pmHey K333.
~~~
Six years after Al Gore’s older sister died of lung cancer in 1984, he was still accepting campaign contributions from tobacco interests. Four years after she died, while campaigning for President in North Carolina, he boasted of his experiences in the tobacco fields and curing barns of his native Tennessee. And it took several years after Nancy Gore Hunger’s death for Mr. Gore and his parents to stop growing tobacco on their own farms in Carthage, Tenn.
So it seems that the Al Gore and his family were quite content to profit from tobacco users for more than 20 years after the January 1964 publication of the first Surgeon General report on smoking and health.
Posted on February 15, 2013 at 11:28pmActually the Tea Party was largely the creation of the Koch Brothers and Murdoch. Without Murdoch and his promotion of TP events as straight news, along with his staff speaking at these events, this fake grass roots movement (instantly created out of thin air when President Obama was elected) would have never existed. Without the huge infusion of dollars from the Koch brothers, all those Tea Party events would never have happened.
So what happened to the Tea Party? They failed at the last election. So Murdoch got rid of Palin, and, somehow, no one is financing all those Tea Party rallies that FOX relentlessly promoted. When was the last Tea Party rally? I’ll tell you: when the Koch brothers decided they were throwing their money away.
As Sarah Palin goes, so goes the Tea Party.
So where is the Tea Party now and all those three corned hats and all those signs telling the government to “keep your hands off of my Medicare”?
Do you think he helped foster the belief he was not born in the US? I think there is more evidence of a war on Christmas than a war on women. The Benghazi attack is another example of your party failing to come foreward with facts or providing facts that turn out not to be facts afterall. How about your partys claim the tea party is violent, without any examples. As far as gun consification is concerned, i remember when the smoke nazis said they just wanted to give people in resturants a seperate section that was smoke free. Now they don;t want people smoking in the park. How about seat belts. It was first promised not to be a primary reason for a ticket. How did that work out? It’s called the camels nose under the tent. I guess you missed Paul Krugman talking about death panels, google it. You can pick examples of crazy theories from both parties. The freedom that defined America’s founding and success is precisely what you want to deny to people who aren’t exactly like you. And when that happens, when people are denied life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, then they will take it from their oppressors. The conservatives are the oppressors. You are the Red Coats. And the freedom fighters, the Minutemen are now women and Hispanics and gays and students.
Your days of WASP hegemony are over. Good bad or otherwise, they are over. As with every significant change in culture or economy, there are those who welcome it and those who reject it, those who benefit and those who sacrifice. Either way, change will not be denied. “And the freedom fighters, the Minutemen are now women and Hispanics and gays and students.”
First off throwing Women, Hispanics, and students in with the “gays” is not a fair statement at all. Secondly, a true patriot or person fighting for freedom would want anything given to them, except for what comes from GOD. These sections of people that you spoke of have nothing in common except that they all want to be free, but so does every human being. That is exactly why the government should only be charged with protecting our country from foreign attacks and Life,liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They don’t get to redefine what that means and they don’t get to stop us from pursuing our dreams unless it interferes with someone else’s dreams or rights. The Federal Government should protect our borders! So those that live in that area can live their lives “Without Fear”.
There was a saying during WWII that many medals of honor and poems were distributed that read “Freedom of Fear”. Check it out and post your comments about it.
Thats exactly what they tried to do to christians in the roman colaseums with the lions but despite even that the christian freedom fighters grew to numbers that could not be counted or controlled and before long overshadowed all of Europe with their influence. Those ungodly men that were doing the persecuting were soon to be found being beheaded if they didn’t accept those christian beliefs. Oh how the tides do turn. Every dog has its day but in the end they are just dogs trying to be men and failing. Those of you who hate God and and the country and all that we tea party people hold dear….. We will remember!!!
Posted on February 15, 2013 at 11:16pmWest BARELY lost, and Akin lost for very obvious reasons, because he said something retarded that blew up nationally. We’ll see if the Tea Party is dead or not. It’s certainly at a low spot for sure but passions can be ignited again given the proper spark. The Tea party right now is at war with both parties in a lot of ways and I think that definitely contributes both to its low approval rating and Democratic victory in 2012.
We’ll see if the right can unify again or if it’s going to stay fractured, ensuring Democratic victory for good. Even Democrats might not want that because it NEVER turns out when roughly half the population feels it has noticeably less representation than the other half. That typically is where you see insurgency, terrorism, regional secession attempts and worst case, civil war.
If that’s all, then that’s the least of their evils. And we SHOULDN’T be taxing tobacco, or alcohol for that matter, differently than we do other goods. Of course, we also should be regulating more strictly what can go into tobacco, but that’s entirely separate from these notions of “sin taxes.”
I do agree completely that we should better regulate the chemicals in cigarettes Much better! however I disagree that alcohol and tobacco should be taxed differently.. The two cost the government quite a bit of money.. for instance hospital and ER visits.. ER especially with alcohol. but both are very detrimental to health and until 2014 the government will continue to foot the bill for those with no insurance in the form of hospital subsidies. Also you have to think of the money it costs for DUI prosecution and jail time.. plus public lawyers. and so on.
